I think we always hear the bad but never the good

I ordered from batch 5 (missed 4) used my 10% coupons but accidentally paid to my batch 1 payment address.
emailed Bitmain and they had the issue fixed within 6 hours (whew!)

Great customer service. I could have lost BTC on that order due to my own stupidity but Bitmain fixed it for me.

edit: THANK YOU BITMAIN

Youre right of course.

On the other hand, previosuly BITMAIN has accepted purchases on S2 with coupons that had expired. Was very friendly of them.

I was batch 1

ordered 18 S3 miners

One S3 had 14 chips marked x and eventually -

I contacted bitmain via the new messaging system on their website and patiently awaited a reply for the next 7 days.

In the mean time another unit stopped hashing although I could view the web gui. Just no chains.. gone.... Fans at full tilt. Tried re-seating cables.. nope.

So, I took the control board out of the unit with the 14 dead chips and put it in the unit with no chains... Success, a functioning S3 again.

Contacting Bitmain on these forums I explained the situation as was directed to email them. Which I did, explained the whole ordeal and asked for advise on what to do with malfunctioning unit.

Flash new firmware was the reply, dont check keep settings. Failure. I informed them so. Silence...

Over my time I have made 24 seperate orders from BITMAIN totalling ~50BTC.
First time ive contacted them to say, "Hey, this ones broken".

Im not big on public outcries, however, on this forum-thread I note another member who had controller board problems and it wasnt until he made it public that action was received in the form of an RMA.

So, here I am

Was Batch 4 always Aug 7th for ship date?  I could have sworn bitmaintech.com showed Aug 5th yesterday.  Can anyone confirm the shipment date of batch 4?

Almost
It was August 5th for batch 5... then it changed

There are no stickers on the screws to break (you know the ones that are placed there essentially to prove that you undid the screw)

And there are no electrical connections to the case to sense that you opened it.

I cant imagine that it could be proved you opened the case, supposing that youre not allowed to.

That said, i know from past experience that when there are problems bitmain support will direct you to re-seat electrical connections. Cant imagine that it would void anything, its just the case.

Im confident the case is there to look cool and improve airflow

go nuts

yep, but the OP said that cleaning paste improved his machine. If what you are saying is 100% correct about swimming in thermal paste not causing any problems, then why his S3 was improved by removing excess and reapplying some? I just want to understand and from what I heard here, it seems that paste should be on the top of the chip in S3.

should be on top of any chip

I just cleaned the excess off one board on a massively under performing s3 to see if it made a difference. nope

Found out why one of my units was not hashing and having X's on the chips. Paste was everywhere on the inside. Even the screws holding the heat sink on had thermal paste on them.

Messy paste wont effect anything but poor cooling, unless your units are overheating, that's not the problem
His look far better than mine did... lol.  I had paste on the chips, on the pcb, on the connectors... everywhere.

correct me if i am wrong, but if others suggest that paste is there to provide a thermal connection between a chip and a heat sink, then with heat sink sitting on the top of the chips in s3, I don't see how it could be done by anything other than having paste on the top of the chips (but not necessarily on connectors, I get that).

not sure what you are asking there...

are there other ways to have a thermal connection between chip and heat sink? sure, you can buy thermal pads. search ebay. youll see in the specs that they are massively electrically resistant. need 1000's of volts to make them conduct. Same goes for thermal paste. Its very unlikely that swimming in thermal paste (even on connectors) would cause any problem at all...

if his chips were not overheating.  the only way cleanup of excess paste helps is the paste has some electrical conductivity.

Could be it does just a little.  we would need a very good ohms meter and someone willing to open his s-3 clean off the oem paste and see just how conductive it is on an electrical level.

Could be. I have an absolute dog of a s3 that's has all but One chip on a board disabled. I'll crack it open and try replacing the thermal paste.

Let you guys know

please tell the motherboard tinkering noob (myself)-where the paste is supposed to be and where it isn't?
I ordered some in case in my batch 2 I would need to clean it up and reapply, but have no clue where it supposed to go-under the chip, to the side of it or on top of it (judging by some posted pictures there are gobs on top)?

It's thermal conducting paste. It's meant to move heat from chip to heat sink (big metal finned bit). The idea is not to have a gap between the chip and the heat sink. Or air pockets because air is an insulator. So just enough thermal paste to form a nice seal between the chip and heat sink. It's not electrically conductive. So it shouldn't matter if there's some overflow. But if he said cleaning it up made the difference. Who am I to argue?
What you don't want to do is remove it and replace it with nothing. (The paste that is) the chips will definitely run hotter than normal then

Tried to check on UPS using 'tracking by reference' with the Bitmain order number, but nothing is found.  My B1 order was paid on: 2014-06-30 21:43.

Cheers

relax people.

2014-06-30 14:04:06.0 Shipped
2014-06-30 14:04:24.0 Unshipped

Can you properly imagine how many orders were made in the opening minutes?

I can tell you I had a hell of a time getting to place an order due to website bombardment. My first order managed to make it at 2014-06-30 14:03:16.0 and i can tell you I was trying at the opening bell (which was 14:00 UTC)

For the coupon offered, any one know whether it has a time limited. If not, I may opt that.  All my bitocoin is used to buy their machines so far and hence it is better.  However, if there is a time limit, not sure how long to get my 1.45 bitcoin to get the next batch, may get the refund instead.

Any one got experience?

there is a time limit... i think it was the 22nd from memory

you can choose refund before then or it will default to coupon after cutoff

also, one coupon per purchase

forgive me if this has been answered. Didnt see it.

Does the coupon apply at one coupon can be used for one future order?

I ask cause I ordered 20 s3-b1

so if i get 20 coupons, i have to buy 20 more units to use them?

Hi,

Packaged separately, one invoice for one shipping address.
If you order two units of S3, one package for one unit, but two units share one invoice.
Under current exchange rate, declared value for two S3 in the invoice is lower than $1000.

I have many serperate orders to avoid just such a problem.

Do you mean that each order will have its own invoice and shipping information?

Or if all orders are to the same address that the shipping will be combined, because that would be a problem for customers where import duties apply. To goods over $1000

well, got it all sorted.

One last piece of the puzzle and everything will be dandy

dynamic targeting seems to be a failure for me

all diff 1 shares
lots of stale shares

i tried commenting out the sharetarget and getworktarget in config.py as suggested in another thread to no avail
youll see in eloipool.py hte value is hard coded if no variable exists in config.py

any help?

well it is and it isnt.

I am using 8332 to mine directly to bitcoind

netstat and lsof -i show me that eloipool is communicating with bitcoind

and infact my local network is reaching out to eloipool on 3334 bfgminer says no however. im using eligius for block announcements though in truth bitcoind is only ~1 second behind so probably just a waste of time.

the log file is giving me nothing to work with..

I'll keep trying

bitcoind and eloipool seem to be up and running

however

root@Bitcoin-server:~# netstat --listen

Couldn't agree more.

Plan B is very light on detail. When exactly is shipping expected that PLAN B might be implemented?

I'm all for free hosting, who isn't? Where is the trade off? What do we give in return?

Currently it shows price you can buy or sell, not price others buy and sell.
Long time ago it was swapped, but peoples wrote to me and tell it is wrong.

So, please all of community, tell me. Mast I swap this values or not?

Fair enough

lets take for example http://bitcoin.clarkmoody.com/
where buying price is the current offer for purchase of bitcoins and selling price is current offer should you wish to buy bitcoins

i occasionally trade in traditional stock online and this is the same way the data is presented there

the order book shows it this way but looking at the order book and market data box at same time seems like they should be the same.

maybe its me. anyway, good work.

great program.

I agree with earlier post about putting a moving sell price rule as a % of current price .

also,

your market data section is counter intuitive
MARKET BUY price should show what the market is currently offering to purchase
MARKET SELL price should show what the market is currently offering to sell held bitcoins.

you have it backwards and sell price is showing what market is currently offering if you were to sell, which is wrong.
