1) Deposits - withdrawals fees:  To put things into perspective a customer can now withdraw or deposit 30,000 usd and be charged a fee of 30 usd.
I frankly speaking don't believe this is even a problem to talk about in case you move money in and out once in a while.
Bitcoin is not a treasury bond yielding 3% a year, it is highly volatile and I believe we are making much ado for nothing.
Please understand our current financial system is based on checks and parameters.
The more we move in and out of our accounts, the more banks will be likely to notice our flows, the more attention we will get.
What we are trying to discourage here is not an occasional deposit or withdrawal, it's people moving money in and out daily as there was no tomorrow.
This behavior is putting our system under stress and is representing a potential threat to our security.

if this is the reason behind the recent increase in fees there are much better solutions Wink

pinnaclesports.com (one of the major bookmakers in the world) has a system where every customer gets 1 completely free withdrawal per month.
And because they also try to prevent people depositing/withdrawing excessively they have a policy where each additional withdrawal
is charged with a flat fee.

By that structure they incentive people to withdraw responsibly and minimize unnecessary transactions.

But I guess you won´t change it anyways, just wanted to mention there are other possible solutions for the problems you
experienced  Wink

I don't known that having some fish, who busts in the first or second level, relog, rebuy and add to the prizepool is necessarily a bad thing. Just don't make the late reg retarded long.

like pokerstars in majors with 180-min latereg  Roll Eyes

I think ~15 minutes would be optimal (and I think micon had similar intentions because this allows the people who turn on their computer a few minutes
too late for a tourney still to enter).
And the percentage of people who bust in the first blind level (or maybe the second) should be really negliglibe.

any new estimate on live-betting?

December 2017
 Angry

they could really make a fortune with a reliable betting site in a time where non of the big players have yet
entered the bitcoin betting market ...

and the withdrawal of their main competitor bitbook from the market.

But these delays (weekend passed, monday also passed and still no estimate) really hurt trust in their site and lose
them customers.

damn where is the traffic here?

wat? there are 300 new names in plo evry month site is booming
do 250 of the 300 leave after a week?  There is 358 logged in total right now.

that was a hint towards the common collusion on plo cashgames with new accounts popping up
and leaving the table when the mark leaves.

With 4 players colluding you already know 16/52 cards in omaha, which makes plo much more
attractive for colluders than holdem games  Grin

Regarding this new "maker/taker" model, aren't those who provide the liquidity (i.e. those whose orders end up on the books) supposed to get a portion of the fee paid by those who take from the book?  This is the first time I've seen a "maker/taker" model described as both parties pay a fee with one just paying a lower fee.  This would seem to benefit Bitfinex a lot more than it would benefit traders, and I think it's going to end up creating a price divergence on this platform from other exchanges.

A true maker/taker model (I think, and I'm no expert) should look like this:

Market makers receive 1/2 the fee paid by maker takers.
Market takers pay .3% fee (so Bitfinex receives .15%, and the market maker receives .15%).

This is how you "incentivize" being a market maker.

this!

Thought about something similar but your idea seems to be an even better approach.
That fee structure would be a really incentive for being a market maker.

What´s your opinion Rapha/Giancarlo Smiley ?

I'm not a trader, so i might be wrong, but doesn't the new fee structure already incentivize being a market maker? A market maker only pays half the fee (or less, if you trade a lot) compared to a market taker, that looks like a big incentive to me.

mediocre incentive -> pay less fees then a market taker

but now think about the situation where some part of the fees taken from the market takers doesn´t disappear in bitfinex pockets but instead are distributed among the market makers.

= very huge incentive Wink

which would result in:
-bigger orderbook
-more trading volume
...

And in the long run even Bitfinex would earn more by this, because more depth in the orderbook minimizes certain risks and increases the trading volume, which increases
the total fees.

A market maker incentive model where they earn (instead of just paying less) therefore would be a more sustainable approach Wink

Need 0.3 BTC - 10 % interest for 19 days
by
halcyon
on 17/03/2014, 17:09:54 UTC
Hey guys,

I need 0.3 BTC for an investment.

I usually wouldn´t ask here, but my paycheck has gone towards paying rent + bills and I unfortunately have
all my BTC net worth tied up in Bitfinex swaps.

http://i.imgur.com/iRvFkLp.png

Unfortunately it isn´t possible to end a swap contract as a lender  Angry
(only as borrower)

Therefore I would be willing to pay you 10 % interest if you would help me out with the
0.3 BTC. If I get back the funds faster than in 19 days (it´s possible if the trader decides to cancel his positions)
I will pay you even faster than in 19 days. Of course in this case I will also include the 10 % interest  Wink

In the unlikely event of a Bitfinex closure, I will pay you back from my next paycheck.

Just need to get this done, because otherwise I´ll miss out on this investment opportunity
(has to do with buying something below marketvalue -> arbitrage opportunity).

You are more than welcome to the feedback.
The other contest was based on parlays as I remember it.
If you had a contest  that took into account  all bets, i.e. Singles. doubles, trebles etc. and based it on highest profit percentage on turnover I believe it would be much more popular.
I'd certainly be interested for a start.

you remember it wrong, single bets also counted towards the previous contest  Wink
