Similar things are done in financial markets all the time.  Nothing new here.  Question is, who want to create this Smiley ?

I agree, and surprised that nobody has done this yet!  Seems like a BIG market, given the transaction volume on the exchanges.

Developing a low-fee trading site

Thought I could plant an interesting idea to you.
I believe there is a serious market for a low-cost Bitcoin trading application.  Here is the design:

* You create a average price by pulling feeds from Mt.Gox, Bitstamp, for instance.
* Then you allow people to bet on the price development by entering into contracts.
* These contracts has, for instance, 5 min, 10 min, 15 min, 30 min, 1 hour duration.
* You pair the "gamers" against each other, one betting up and one down and distribute Bitcoins, depending on how it goes.

Example:
AVG(MtGox and Bitstamp) = 500 USD/BTC

A bet 10 BTC on price moves up in 1 hour.
B bet 7 BTC on price moves down in 1 hour.

From these two, you can make a 7 BTC large contract.  The contract should have gearing, say 3X.  So, if price is 550 after one hour, you give 10% * 3 * 7 = 2.1 BTC to person A, from B. The rest is returned.

The advantages of this is that it is possible to daytrade bitcoin prices at a VERY low fee.  Remember that Bitstamp and Mt.Gox charge 0,2 - 0,5% fee per transaction.  This is a lot of money.  No cash needs to be involved.

Thought I should give you my thought, as I'm a little to busy to implement this by my self.

best regards

Why don't you simplify this. And create the exact digital copies of major currencies.

Obviously you didn't see the difference.  This design is not inflationary in real terms, only in nominal terms. Big difference!

Just to give you an example.  When I first heard about crypto-currencies, I wanted to buy some.  Looking at the price of Bitcoin, I felt it was expensive.  I would only get a fraction of a coin, so I bought LTC, as they were much cheaper.  Later I bought some Bitcoins too.

This irrational behavior is present in most people.  That is why I believe that holding should increase, instead of price, when demand increases.  The price-level to set is determined by the consensus of miners. In this design, bitcoin today would perhaps cost 1 USD per coin, while you would have 800 times as many as when you bought them.

It is just a different design, but I believe it has some merits.

Aviv & Yonatan:  Could GHOST work in the situation that transaction & block propagation across the whole network happens much slower than block generation?  For instance, in inter-planetary distances?  We'd expect blocks to be made on Mars every few seconds but each would not make it to Earth for a few minutes.

The only mining on Mars should be minerals Smiley

You can't force a price, that is true. However it is possible to control the rate of the all coins, so that you inflate all coin holdings in order to keep the value down.  Take a look at:

Let me know if you wanna discuss it further.

You guys have made the biggest contribution to the biggest problem with cryptocurrencies, transaction times.
Now we just need to implement it + zerocoin support. Ahh how i love open source.

I would also like to see some kind of community interest rate in the currency, similar to what was outlined here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1302Fb5BpgTRS2P-snN4ys5JR3l8QU2QhpncldAYaXfM/edit?usp=sharing

No currency can have limited supply and stable prices.

Besides that, I think we are on to a winning formula, yes.

Call for participation in "dynamic monetary base coin"
by

on 11/12/2013, 20:44:13 UTC
Hi,

I'm looking into the possibility of creating a coin based on a completely community-steered monetary base.
I wrote a whitepaper that can be read here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1302Fb5BpgTRS2P-snN4ys5JR3l8QU2QhpncldAYaXfM/edit?usp=sharing

I do it for fun now, but looking for more  people to join with the following background
* People with knowledge of finance and macro economics.
* Technical persons, C/C++, mathematics
* Web designers, artists.

This is in its early drafting stages, so if you have any wise ideas, please give send me a mail and we can discuss it further.

best regards

Hi,

I have been working on a whitepaper for some ideas I haven't seen implemented in any cryptocurrency.

Take a look here for the paper: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1302Fb5BpgTRS2P-snN4ys5JR3l8QU2QhpncldAYaXfM/edit?usp=sharing

Basically it adds "interest rates" to the cryptocurrency in order to stabilize the value (but amounts will float). Further, it intends to make it extremely hard to hash it with custom hardware, thus aiming for broad distribution to all with a CPU.

Implementingwise, I aim for a super simple mining participation threshold:  No complex setups, downlaod, install, and you are up.

For anyone interested in bouncing ideas or join in with some expertice, let me know

Best regards
HA
