I think this is slightly misleading. This isn't an attack on cryptocurrencies (i.e. not a cryptocurrency weakness) but could have (or has) been used for other fraudulent activity just as well.

Using SSL certificates to identify pools might help prevent mitm attacks though.

If it creates a problem for legitimate users who get fined by accident, one off fines are so small most won't care. Others, well maybe we can have a voting mechanism for the network to enforce a refund based on evidence of user activities.

Don't think a false 15cent fine is gonna kill anyone. I can already see people whining about collaterals though, when they're trying to denominate using a GPRS-like connection.

can some one explaine me what is colateral fee (as im 5 years old)

Thx

The collateral fee is "charged" when a client misbehaves, i.e. does not comply with the masternode mixing protocol. That is to ensure that (D)DoS attacks against the masternode network are a costly enterprise.

When you connect to a masternode you send it the signed collateral tx but the MN doesn't broadcast it to the network. Think of it as a deposit. If everything goes fine and you comply with the protocol, that signed tx is destroyed, so nothing happens. If your client does things that hurt the normal mode of operation the tx is broadcast to the network and you're "charged" the fee.

For non-malicious nodes this should hardly ever happen once everything is working as intended. Very flaky internet connections might be a problem though.

Haha. Proof of stupidity. Did you see the super confusing map? Reminded me of the diagram of the coin that shall not be named.

The coin mixing illustration and the whitepaper had me in tears...

Did you notice that the whitepaper has 1337 pages? Cheesy

Technical masternode help requested
Dyslexic_Zombei has allegedly lost access to one of his masternode addresses (node 3) due to a 'phantom self-payment' and he says the address is disassociated with the wallet and his blockchain file is corrupt or something. See his posts here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=626715.msg7888788#msg7888788

Could we get some help on this from El Presidente or even a glance by Evan or InternetApe? He's blaming the issue on Evan essentially, saying the community has been no help and he is claiming the Darkcoins are irrecoverable due to Evan's 'beta software'.

To me DZ just seems highly incompetent.

That's a very very general statement.

I'm not being paranoid, I'm stating technical facts that should be considered. You're basically unfirewalling your network by using a VPN improperly!

VPNs don't do anything for you per-se. The difference is that on a VPN the entity you need to trust is the VPN provider rather than your ISP. I don't see how that's any better or different in terms of security or privacy.

Calling me paranoid for stating that just shows your lack of knowledge about the matter.
Nope. There are VPNs that do not hold any logs and such, after all the forum is sponsored by a good VPN is it not?
You're paranoid, my knowledge is okay (P.S. Your ISP sees this  Cheesy) . Relax, we are going off topic, enough of this.

There are VPN providers that claim not to do that. Doesn't change the fact that you need to trust them.
I'm not claiming that everyone has bad intentions but that VPN isn't the holy grail of connecting to the internet and has weaknesses you have to be aware of. Nothing worse than a false sense of security.

Just wanted to note, that by using any VPN you're deliberately putting yourself in a man-in-the-middle attack type of situation and the usage of non-HTTPS sites and non-SSL/TLS services should be highly discouraged! Also you're deliberately rendering any kind of firewalling that your local network provides ineffective and are potentially opening up your entire LAN to the world!
A paranoid fellow aren't you?
The right kind of VPN is the best solution that there is.

This IPVanish masks your IP by placing you behind a VPN of which you can select from several locations worldwide to use

So they don't care about privacy of their users financial transactions, and don't mind letting the Litecoin users reveal their exact identity on the inter web?

As I've brought it up and this seems to be a common misunderstanding: The world wide web aka "the web" (meaning actual web sites) does not equal "the internet" but is actually a service built on top of the internet which is merely a medium rather than something that you can interact with. Any cryptocurrency is not built on top of "the web" but on top of the internet. So it actually co-exists independently from the web and thus you can't reveal your identity on "the web" via any kind of coin.

This might seem like splitting hairs but I really can't help it right now. I find it frustrating that even people here know so little about the beauty of a system like the internet. Yes, I'm a geek.  Cheesy

So hiding your IP address is a good idea, when you're sending money around the inter web?

Call it "inter web" again and I'll track you down and punch you in the face!  Angry seriously! It is called the internet

But it seems you have a trolly day anyway.

There you go, that's why IP obfuscation is useful. lol

good point Cheesy

So let me get this straight.

Every machine on the inter web has a unique identifier.

Just as you would address a letter to send in the mail, computers use the unique identifier to send data to specific computers on the inter web.

So if I send transactions out and people can see my IP, they know who I am, and can track my spending?

Please call it internet. That's its name.

The nodes your wallet is connected to, gain knowledge of your payment from your machine first. So they can at least guess that it originated from your machine('s IP address). Of course your ISP knows which customer is assigned which IP address, so if you have access to that info or can gather other data that connects you and your IP address, your payment can be connected to your identity.

I suggest you visit wikipedia and check the Bitcoin article to see how cryptocurrencies work Smiley

No seriously, why would anyone need to hide their IP address from their financial transactions?

Because denominating DRKs and then sending a part of those from the same IP address obviously hurts the privacy aspect.

Without reading back the last 100 pages can anybody sum up why the price is dropping so much?

People aren't spoon-fed with information over here, so to some it might appear as if nothing was happening in terms of development.

You're right. I decided not to sell because what you said makes sense. Thanks.

I need to learn yoga or get more exercise because how wound up and angry I got frightened me. For what I said I'm sorry it was childish and most of all uncalled for. Sorry.

I tip my hat to you!
