Is there a way to direct deposit in your US bank account. Not Wire transfer, I mean cash deposit into your account ?
We do not accept direct cash deposits.

Example: could I see it credited at 23:59, Bitstamp time?
Or I can see the deposit credited during banking hours only?

We typically process deposits the same time as the business hours of our bank. However this is by no means ironclad and may sometimes vary.
How long does the verification process usually take these days?
Shouldn't take longer than a business day, if that.

When explaining bitcoins advantages over cash to someone else, there are a few things that come to mind:
1. They cannot be counterfeited
2. Can be sent anywhere in the world with no (or very very low) fees
3. Mining fees dont go to big banks
4. Low transaction fees, coinbase estimated bitcoin could reduce payment processing fees worldwide from $500 billion to $50 billion, so 1/10th of current level
Any other to add to the list?

It works almost like email but for money with some amazing qualities such as: limited supply, irreversible, non-freezable, non-counterfeitable, pseudononymous and almost free to use.
It's basically the equivalent of digital cash or gold that you can almost instantly send to anyone, anywhere in the world at any time.
These two sentences I'd wager would be the best when dealing with a lay person.

Why not use something like OpenPGP that was designed for it? Why can't users have web-site login sub-keys they access with two clicks?
Edit: thought on one possible reason: Bitcoin is standardized on one signature algorithm.
Because not every Bitcoin user has some pgp software installed, but all of them use a Bitcoin wallet already.

This is how I imagine it'll work:
- Bitcoin wallet apps will have a secondary address book for authentication addresses (these can be some of the same addresses they already use or completely new addresses)
- when you sign up for an account you simple scan a QR code which will give you the option of creating a new authentication address or to pick an existing one
- to login you scan a QR code and click confirm
It couldn't be simpler, and every Bitcoin user could have this functionality already on their device due to simply being a Bitcoin user, no additional installation necessary. All we need is Bitcoin wallet app devs to implement this.
Yeah this doesn't sound too great of an idea. Would you have to type your bitcoin address in each time too? Not exactly easy to remember.

Man I wish Google would add a hardware wallet into Nexus 5 (or some other smartphone company). Can you imagine if every smartphone could be also used as a hardware secured authentication device/Bitcoin wallet?

Anyone has any idea what I should do to get my money back? Obiviously they are holding my money now. But they did not either contact me or credit the money back to my Bitstamp account. Really worried now.
Apologies for not better assisting you in your case. Typically when a withdrawal cannot be delivered to the intended recipient and the transfer returns back to our bank account we are notified about cases like this by our bank, which also helps us determine the original details of the transfer. Once we are notified we return the funds less banking costs back to your Bitstamp account as soon as possible.
Usually it can take up to as many additional days as it takes for the transfer to be deliver for the transfer to return to our bank account and sometimes a few additional business days before our bank notifies us so I kindly ask you to be patient. But definitely please message us if the transfer should not get returned to your Bitstamp account in 10 business days and we will investigate further.

The rumors might be true, bitstamp is closing its business due to some illegal activity of its users.
Today I received a message about a failed deposit to BitStamp. It was a SEPA transfer from a Finnish bank S-Pankki. I checked the IBAN account number and it is indeed correct.
It took about 48h for money to come back to the originating account. It was a 1xx euros. The reason for returning funds says: "Tili lopetettu", which in English means "Account closed".
Anyone else have similar problems? It is rather strange as it is a deposit to BitStamp, not a withdrawal.

Please make sure to submit a deposit request before making a deposit and to accurately copy our IBAN. Our bank account is not closed and we are not experiencing any general issues with receiving or sending transfers.
Am I in the right place to ask? I gave an incorrect (too short) btc address and confirmed this. I looked to see why nothing arrives in the right place. Was sent or debited. But what happens now with the money? Is it gone?

Still vulnerable.
We are investigating this issue and have temporarily disabled login for existing users, the registration of new accounts and virtual currency withdrawals. These measures are "just in case" temporary measures while we wait for our DDoS mitigation service provider to fix this issue. Our backend was already patched.
