I am sceptical too.  But take a look at this vid, interview from 2014(!) , look carefully from 09:50 and judge yourself.  vimeo.com/149115042

Here's why Libertarianism will win big b/c of Bitcoin (either way)
by

Either if bitcoin will grow for many years (what i think will happen) or if it will implode at some stage, Libertarianism will gain power in politics.

Here's why:

Libertarians, or people with light to heavy libertarian ideas, are proportionally over-represented among the early investors in/adopters of Bitcoin.

So at some point they will cash out and part of them will become rich, some very. That will give this group of people a way to buy influence, support campaigns of libertarian politicians and so forth, like they never could before.

The world will become a better place.

Hi , I'd welcome a chart with log scale for the fiat price.
Especially for the longer time lines , 6 months and longer.

Re: 7 thoughts on Bitcoin

Hi,

1. Counter Balance: The fiat system adopted and now exists within a counter balance system. If you buy yen for gbp, yen value goes up, gbp goes down. Same the whole world around, these currencies exist side by side, they counter balance each other. Yet bitcoin exists above them all. Bitcoins counter balance is the fiat system itself. When bitcoin value goes up that is because the fiat system has invested itself in it.

6. Economic Growth: Because the people won't be paying tax for the government to start wars and give to their bank buddies, people will have more money to spend, which will give growth to small and big businesses alike (whichever become part of bitcoin sooner will benefit most, especially from the increase in bitcoin value), which will give rise to more jobs, etc, etc, encouraging other businesses to take on bitcoin as they see their bitcoin neighbors booming with growth.

#1: Good observation. When something goes up in value, always something else must become less valuable. When ppl start buying bitcoin and / or gold in droves, paper money's value dwindle. Ultimate, we get hyperinflation.  Game over for fiat money. But we need a debt system, so maybe Ripple or similar will rise as a consequence.

#2: I would say : "Because the people won't be paying the hidden inflation tax for the government to start wars..." I suspect we wil have tax forever, but wars are always payd by the stealth hidden tax called inflation. (Sometimes in payed in advance by twin sister Deficit Spending)

Grin  so true .... oth i see a stable growth pattern if one neglects may-nov 2011, aka as the 2011 btc hype episode.
So the exptrapolation is over the steady periods only, of about 1.8 year.

The recent rise form 7 to 11 usd is a bit too quick , as I see it, so we may see a drop back.  Also mark that the recent 7 to 11 rise is not that noticeable on the scale of the forecast graph.

And then the number of coins will drop from 50 to 25 per mined block coming December...

I'll come back here in exactly 12 months and we'll all see !

"May you live in Interesting Bitcoin Times" as the old Chinese saying goes.

Simple constant growth extrapolation, with linear fit on log scale ->

same % growth for each equal distance horizontal.

Neglecting the May-Nov 2011 media hype bubble.

Webshop software for selling btc ?
by
henq
on 08/07/2012, 10:41:38 UTC
Hi,

I consider starting a webshop for selling btc.  No trading platform, the shop keeps a stock of btc.
(I'll use only non-reversable real money payment systems, no credit cards for example).

So I need a webshop with interfacing to the bitcoindeamon/wallet.
(The wallet should be setup on another server with message queuing as interface?)

Ideally, also interfacing with mtgox and other price quoting sources.

Any pointers welcome.  (Also programmers who want to setup such thing for me.)

tia
