not sure if the newbie restrictions are worse then I understand them to be.  So many complaints have come to my attention recently about the ip error msg leads me to wonder if they are having problems I didn't or just don't recall.

I'm going to go with yes.  I think this isn't gong to happen for a very long time.  Many things to be considered for this to happen but I can't see why it would be out of the realm of possibility.

Re: mining is solving mathimatical problems or is it
by
hieroglyph
on 14/12/2013, 02:11:33 UTC
kickingcoin,
The mining computations are not computing anything useful beyond the bitcoin network, but they are necessary for the whole thing to work. As you know, bitcoin network is a so-called peer-to-peer network, where there are a lot of nodes, which can freely join or leave the network at any time, and no one is more authoritative than others.

Without those computationally difficult calculations, it would be technically possible that some "dishonest" node will join the network, running with the modified version of the bitcoin software, trying to generate some "fake" transaction, which would for example steal money from other address, etc. The mining prevents this from happening, because the dishonest node can't simulate the proof, that mining work was being done, so the other nodes knows that that transaction is fake and should be ignored.

You can read more about it here:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Proof_of_work

That makes sense, now I get a better grasp of how it works.  Good question and good talk, I'm glad we did this.  Cheesy

Re: Phoenix Technologies/Bitcoinminingcenter.com Scam
by

on 14/12/2013, 02:06:40 UTC
While I am waiting for authorization to post on this topic in the general forum, I thought I would share my experience.  On November 13th, 2013, I sent bitcoins to this scam site located out of Hong Kong, of course not knowing that they were bogus.  Since then, it has been confirmed that they were indeed a scam, and upon further information from Coinbase, I have tracked the address through blockchain and found that this guy made off with almost $1,000,000 USD worth of BTC.  Needless to say, there are many of us who are seeking criminal prosecution in this matter and have already started the ball rolling with the Hong Kong Police Department.  I would like to suggest that any people who had a similar experience join up with us and go to all necessary lengths to see this person prosecuted and possibly recover lost funds (not likely, but worth a shot).

Very sorry for loss and others that had their funds there.  Hope you get a lot of people together and take him to court.  Good luck and keep us posted on the progress.

Re: If any one needs a Vircurex.com Referal Code
by

on 14/12/2013, 02:04:00 UTC
I know when I signed up at Vircurex.com I had trouble finding a code.  With a referal code you save 0.05% per trade.  Anyway, If you need one, the code is: 260-146
Also a referal link: https://vircurex.com/register?referral_id=260-146

If you like trading Altcoins, it does offer more options and coins then any other site.

Hmm I do believe I'll be putting this code to work for me in the future.  Many thanks for the code Rejinx it is appreciated.

Can't get better then this if you ask me.  Wall Street is what I call a serious player lol...
Kind of a good sign from my point of view.  I could be overstating it but hey I don't yet see how one can consider this a bad thing.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/bitcoin-fund-raises-65-mln-205149343.html

Should work but I suggest looking for "bitcoin fund raises" then looking to the right and taking the poll.  I suggest doing the search instead of using the link as you can see that the link has some unique identifiers in it.

Thanks to the speculation forum user "wachtwoord"  for finding this and raising it!

Oh well A for effort anywho...
