On a less-jokey note, I applaud Zack for taking a "big picture" approach and encourage all aspiring devs to follow the example: trying to work it all out from the beginning.

That is indeed the game we are playing. You'll get a different answer to that question from everyone that answers it, and a good portion of those answers will likely fall into the category of dis-information. Everyone has a bias of some sort and some can't help but to try and steer readers in a direction that profits themselves more than the readers.

The most profitable advice given to me was to try everything (pool, solo, pick one coin, try lots of coins) and see what works best for you. Everyone has different resources to invest, costs to maintain, and expectations for the results, and differing amounts of patience. The best advice I have been given is to do the research on the different coins and only support the ones in which you truly believe.

Think you'll generate enough traffic to pay the interest? You probably will anyway. I just worry that if I sign up and deposit some coins, you'll get just 2 chances to show me ads, 60 days apart. I might drop by more often if this was coupled with something else interesting: games, articles, commentary, a trollbox at the very least 

Almost as annoying as rebooting, but a little faster: you can log out of windows and log back in.

However, if you find you have to reboot anyway, it might be worth the effort to setup a dual boot situation with a little Debian action on another disk/partition. As has been mentioned, you can squeeze quite a bit more hashing performance out of the same hardware and electricity by using GNU/Linux instead of windows. And you'll probably learn a lot in the process

If you are thinking about the USD value of BTC, then you are really just calling a rose by another name - you're still buying/selling in USD.  We need more goods and services available to users of BTC, we need more people using BTC to barter. That attaches actual value to BTC, rather than perceived value. Sometimes, it seems like everyone is just interested in how much USD everyone else thinks BTC are worth.

If that still doesn't make sense, how about this: Now is the time to accept BTC as payment and convince everyone else that now is the time to buy BTC
