Where do you get your news about BTC? I am looking for a relevant and credible source of news, e.g. like cointelegraph.com (which I favor), but would like to have other opinions.

Bitcoin Core parser for python
by
highperspective
on 27/02/2018, 16:05:50 UTC
I am trying to apply machine learning techniques on Bitcoin Core data, but in order to do this, I need to get the data into a format that can be applied for modeling.
I have been searching a lot of places, some parsers from GitHub is very old and this not maintained, and others are not available for iOS (I am on a mac).
Been reading Reid and Harrigans paper where they talk about different methods for combining the data into a user-dataset. It is something like this I am looking for. I am using python but I can adapt to other languages if necessary. I am also willing to use Ethereum blockchain data instead if you know any better solutions for this.

Thank you in advance!

True BTC believers
by
highperspective

I think it would be fun to have some kind of an idea about why people are in on the 'crypto-wave'. Let me be clear, that there is no right or wrong answers and both are good and none are 'better'..
Is it entirely because of the money that can be gained from the potential price increases, or is it because you believe in the tech? Maybe you do not believe in the BTC but other cryptos, that counts as well for 'believing in the tech'.
If you do not know whether you believe in it or not, you have not read enough about it, and then you are in because of potential gains.

I personally do not care at all about the reason, and there is not one of the two which are morally 'best'. It is completely okay to invest from the only belief and hope, that the money invested will become more worth. I just think it is fun to see

Will Bitcoin remain dominant
by

Do you think Bitcoin will remain the most dominant coin both short and long term? Even though it does not remain the most dominant coin, this will not be the same as saying that Bitcoin won’t exist long term.

Re: What wallets do you use?

It Always depends on which coins you holding. Some multi-coin wallets are pretty good, but I would say as you have a paper wallet or a desktop wallet, you should be safe for the most part. My ether wallet is very good for ERC20, though the founders are making a new more scalable solution.
Some of the other big coins have their own desktop wallets.

There are no certainties in cryptocurrencies. But I agree with you, I believe Ethereum will have the biggest market cap of the two in the end of the year. Even though that is the case, I do not think that is a reason to sell all holdings of Bitcoins. Even though Ethereum becomes bigger, this does NOT mean that Bitcoin will disappear, and Bitcoin will still be able to make new ATH's!

BTC right now

What is your take on BTC as of right now? Are you buying, selling or waiting?
If you are waiting, which price are you waiting for?

I am waiting for BTC to break 9,5k or to go through 7,5k. If it goes through 7,5k I'll wait to see where it ends. Above 9,5k I am in.

Paradigm shift from BTC to ETH
by
highperspective
on 03/02/2018, 16:29:52 UTC
To be very clear, it is a theory I am getting fond of without knowing whether I believe it or not, yet. BUT, it is always important to have a lot of scenarios in mind!
I am judging BTC totally out, but I could imagine, that we do not see BTC at the ATH levels again and that it will consolidate anywhere between the current price and the ATH at some point. After this, we will see ETH take over as the dominant coin in the crypto-space.

During such a potential, paradigm shift it will spread a lot of fear because of an unstable BTC price. But on the other side, people will again be more calm, when the new state of crypto (ETH as leader) will become normal.

Again, this is ONLY a theory (inspired by others theories) and I am not judging BTC totally out. Please, come with both pros and cons for this if you have opinions on the matter.

Blockchain and crypto course
by

If you would consider yourself as wither a person with limited knowledge or intermediate knowledge, what would you find most interesting to have explained in a crypto/blockchain course. This can be things as the evolvement of blockchain, how mining works, what scaling is, or how scaling is trying to be solved.

To be more clear, there is a lot of areas (some more technical than others) to talk about. I am trying to figure out what the majority finds most interesting/what most people does not understand to the fullest.

Re: Bitcoin saving is not safe
by
highperspective
on 22/01/2018, 13:08:46 UTC
Yes, like some other people wrote, the risk of being hacked is not very high if you keep your bitcoins safe. If you keep them in cold-storage, I would be willing to say that it is almost safer than keeping USD in a bank. Or if you keep it a place like Coinbase who is insuring your funds. They keep less than 2% of customers funds online.
In regards to fluctuations, yes you are right. Bitcoin is more volatile that usd or event stocks. But I would still keep some percentage of my money in BTC at all times. This can also be seen as a hedge agains the inflation in dollars.

Ethereum sharding
by

I have read an article about the way Etherum plans to scale their network with the sharding. I am not sure I fully understand how the different 'shards' or what I understands as 'smaller blockchains'/smaller interdependent ledgers are able to communicate with each other.
If anyone understands is and are able to explain I would be very happy!

Profit to Fiat

How often do you take profit back to fiat to lock the profit? And how much (percentage) do you take out, when/if you do?
I’ve been in the crypto space for 6 months now and haven’t done it yet, but I think I’ll lock my initial investment into fiat soon.

I am sorry for asking so much about this, but I do not know enough about it myself. Can I rent a VPN/VPS to run the node. This way I am sure that it is running 24h and I do not need to run it physically myslef?
