What is the probability of Bitcoin being replaced?
by

on 15/07/2016, 23:58:42 UTC
Is Ethernum a threat to Bitcoin?

-Ethernum is faster than bitcoin
-has been gaining popularity
-its good for smart contracts.

Is Ethernum going to replace bitcoin, die out as a fad or coincide with bitcoin? Are we likely to see any altcoin possibly kill bitcoins or will bitcoin simply incorporate any improvements from altcoins, taking away all advantages.

Originally resistance, this support level has been tested a few times. This is my call for how low we go before we turn around. XMR can't get to high before the GUI release because that's when I think we will pump hard. Honestly I think this was just a market maker fakeout double top.

Pardon my ignorance but when is the gui release do we know

Thinking from a midterm perspective ideally I want the upcoming bitcoin halving to do nothing maybe even crash bitcoins price this would be great for alt coins especially monero in my opinion. This may be confirmation bias but I think the halving will be anti climatic. Think if halving was really going to cause the price to go up, why isn't it up now this news is known to nearly everyone in the bitcoin community. I don't believe the market is perfectly efficient but when nearly everyone is already aware how will their be this massive doubling pump. When the bitcoin halving comes around I think almost anything could happen, but my best interest might be biasing me since my holdings are all xmr and im hoping for a crash or stable price. If I did have bitcoin I would be buying xmr now, since the volumes back up with xmr, we still have good momentum and each peak so far is showing higher volume. I am a momentum trader and of all the altcoins monero shows all the technicals and even good fundamentals so im still super bullish.

^I hope you are right but if I was to guess I think we already finished our breakout and will have a week of consolidation but regardless I'm super long on xmr and will be holding every last one.

How big is a whale?

How many BTC do you need to be considered a whale in the altcoin markets. I consider a whale anyone who moves markets significantly when their open positions are set up causing massive walls or when they can make a big affect by just exiting or entering a position. So would 500 BTC make someone a whale or is even less needed in the alt coin market?

I wish I loan out a bit higher at least I got a good amount loaned at 0.01 and it seems kind of insane to be short. I don't know how I could sleep at night if I had a short order in xmr!

Wow I just looked at poloniex today the bid volumes more than doubled!
And its all in one buy order that can be removed at the whim of one entity.

Wink yes that's true now if I was a whale and didn't want people to realize what you said, I would break my bid orders up to make it look natural. You are right I wouldn't expect much right now.

For a while you guys may have noticed xmr has been sort of linked to eth. It looks like we are finally breaking out of that trend and it may be monero's next leg up in these bullish times.

We have been stabilizing around like 170-185k I would say once the bollinger bands get tight which will happen in the next week or so. One of two things is going to happen we will break upwards (probably like 50% based on previous breakouts) or we are going to see a trend reversal. Personally I think we will see the 50% increase because the long term trend is established and it is more likely for a trend to continue rather than reverse.

I'm just wondering that if halving is supposed to make the price go up wouldn't people have already pushed the price up?

I think the real war will be fought around 0.004. That's the spot Monero started to get dumped last year. Once that has been accomplished we are looking for war zones from 2014 and that will be sweet IMO.
If the coin is able to set a support at ATH, only there are no limits and Monero is then in the new orbit.

I dont think so if we reach 0.004 it will easy go up to 0.006

Historically speaking, 0.0043 is the major resistance towards... well... Moon.  Cool

That was the peak befor the last major crash in xmr history hopefully history won't repeat itself this time.

Yes the 1/10th ratio is true I often wonder if that will continue to be a long term phenomenon. Only time will tell  Undecided
I also wonder in the event of a bad crash in eth would monero follow or would that help xmr break out and be a positive force for us trader/holders.

It's true that xmr and eth are very correlated recently and I am not sure how to explain this. A sell wall is up it seems that someone wants the price to stay around like 240k to 280k sats.

Yes Bitcoin is not dying and if it did this wouldn't be very good. I think the real competition is for the #2 spot.

You can see currently we are in the 10th spot which from my memory shows we have been bumped up a few spots fairly recently since I remember we used to be like 17. but still have a long way to go, and makes me wonder why coins like made safe, dodge, dash and the #2 eth are all currently far ahead in market cap.
