Which UK banks process bitcoin transactions?
by
hjordan
on 13/02/2017, 16:01:13 UTC
I tried to withdraw fiat from Bitstamp to Santander, but Santander won't process it.
I called Marks and Spencer bank run by HSBC and they won't deal with bitcoin either.
Which UK banks, if any, are bitcoin friendly?

Re: Women of Bitcoin, Yes there's women

I am a lady obsessed with Bitcoin. I believe there are fundamental differences between men and women and men tend to be more interested in finance related topics. People just want to pretend these differences don't exist. The truth is, it's a man's world.

I was a tomboy when I was younger, always playing football with the boys. I think I have a male brain.

Anyone feel free to add me on Facebook. I sometimes post about Bitcoin and get no comments, haha. It would be nice to have more like-minded people on there. My FB name is: Helen Elizabeth Anne. I have a picture of myself with Max Keiser as my cover.

My YouTube channel is Golden Jordan and I shall soon be recording some Bitcoin videos.

I just had to comment on this amazing, historical thread!  Grin

Why doesn't a pizza parlour accept Bitcoin and name the pizza with Laszlo's favourite toppings after him?
I'm going to contact Pizza Hut and some others to suggest it.  Tongue

I came close to buying a flight with my Bitties, then remembered Laszlo and thought how in the future the cost of those Bitties may buy me a trip to The Moon, lol!  Roll Eyes

How are addresses kept unique?

How does bitcoinaddress.org generate unique addresses when it's used offline because it can't be checking a database of addresses to check it's not generating a duplicate address?

That's exactly what I though, although BS say on their FB page that their banking issue is now resolved, so maybe you can still arbitrage trade for now, but there may be a backlog in withdrawing for the time being.

Massive price difference between Bitstamp and BTC-E
by
hjordan
on 21/11/2013, 16:16:05 UTC
I wondered in the past if there was an arbitrage opportunity between Mt. Gox and Bitstamp to buy on BS and sell on MG, but found out there wasn't as you couldn't withdraw funds from MG, which is why the price had been pushed up, as there was high demand to buy to get the coins out.

Now there is a huge difference between BS and BTC-E (as much as $80 difference in the last day). These differences would normally be pounced upon by arbitrage traders and quickly close, but they're not. Is this a genuine arbitrage opportunity?
If not -- as it seems too good to be true -- what is going on? I know BS have had trouble with their site lately, but if you're able to get your funds out then it looks like you can just buy on BTC-E and sell on BS.

Bitstamp $75 higher than BTC-E. Are they Mt. Gox 2.0?
by
hjordan
on 20/11/2013, 20:48:14 UTC
Has anyone withdrawn money from BS in the last day or two?
Their price is higher than Mt. Gox for the first time ever. The reason Gox was so much higher for so long is because people couldn't withdraw funds, yet they could withdraw coins, so demand to buy pushed the price up. Any huge differences in price between exchanges is a sign something is wrong otherwise I could just buy now on BTC-E for $490 and sell on BS for $580, but it's not that easy.
Normally, any difference in exchanges would be pounced upon by arbitrage traders which would quickly close the gap, yet this one remains.
They have said they're having delays with withdrawals.

Lightweight clients

I'm not very familiar with the different clients. I use QT and am trying to advise a friend who is new to Bitcoin, but QT is going to take forever to synch. What do people make of the lightweight ones? Which is the best and why?

I too had difficulty verifying my account before the deadline to continue using your account. All my bills etc are online. My online bank statement was refused. I emailed and explained that I only have online statements and I don't see what difference it makes and I was very polite. I then scanned the same document that was refused again and to my delight it was accepted the next day.
Can't you get a bank statement delivered?

Is it possible to withdraw funds from Mt. Gox?

I asked this question recently, but didn't get much response. One person said if my funds were in USD I could kiss my money goodbye.
I'm thinking of moving coins from Bitstamp and selling them on Mt. Gox. Which is the best currency to sell them in before I make a SEPA withdrawal?
Also, Mt. Gox say withdrawals are taking a week. I can wait a week, but are they definitely honouring all withdrawal requests?

It took a couple of hours in the end. I've been following the price since just before the peak and Mt. Gox has always had a higher price.
Mt. Gox say a SEPA withdrawal will take up to a week. I can wait a week. For those saying you can't get your money out, are you saying they're lying? If so thanks for tip. I may move that one coin back to Bitstamp. I'm already verified with Mt. Gox.

Mt. Gox say 'All deposits are subject to AML checks due to more stringent AML requirements, and this process may take up to 24 hours after the funds have reached us.'
They surely don't mean even coin deposits. I wanted to transfer a large amount of coins, but I'm testing it with one as I've never transferred coins before. So, it's going to take two days to do the transfer?

Arbitrage trading
by
hjordan
on 07/09/2013, 12:58:45 UTC
I understand BitInstant is the cheapest way to transfer funds from Mt. Gox to BTCE (1.5%), but orders are suspended at the moment. I was thinking about doing arbitrage trading as the difference in price between these two sites has been $14 recently. If I withdrew funds to my bank and then redeposited them, would it be worth it after all charges? The only thing which is hard to factor in is that a rubbish exchange rate is like a hidden fee.

International bank transfer or SEPA
by
hjordan
on 07/09/2013, 12:21:54 UTC
I live in the UK and made a withdrawal using a SEPA transfer as the UK is in the SEPA region, but as we don't use EUR, this means the USD were exchanged to EUR and then to GBP. Would I have been given a poor exchange rate? If so, would I have been better off with the USD being transferred straight to GBP, i.e. one exchange instead of two? Would an international bank transfer convert USD straight to GBP?
