Re: PhoenixMiner 4.1c: fastest Ethereum/Ethash miner with lowest devfee (Win/Linux)

on 09/03/2019, 03:38:23 UTC
Im running MSOS (ubuntu 16.04, 4.15.0 kernel, 17.5 amd driver) and ever since the ETH upgrade I have had 10 times the amount of stale and invalid shares at the pool. I tried everything including dialing back the OC/UV settings and nothing could get my previous stability back. No mater what I tried it was always 5% stales and 1% invalid shares (normal was 0.5% or less stales and a random invalid every so often). I switched to claymore and while its running at a slower hash Im getting a way higher overall usable hashrate and little to no stales/ invalid. this is only at the pool side the miner side shows way less stales and invalids than what the pool shows. Im thinking this is a linux only issue as my windows rig running 4.1c is fine no unusual stales or invalids, and the linux/MSOS rig running claymore is fine but phoenix on linux/MSOS is just trash on stability now.... If you got any tricks to fix it let me know if not maybe its something you guys can look into on the next release?
thanks for any help

Implemented dual mining (Ethash/Blake2s) for some AMD GPUs (RX580/570/560/480/470/460 and Vega). Use the new -dpool, -dwal, -dpass, -dworker, and -dcoin options to set the Blake2s pool. You can set the secondary coin mining intensity with the -sci option. For more information see the Readme.txt file. Note that the devfee when using dual mining is 0.9% on the ethash coin (there is no devfee on the secondary coin).

Dual mining not working
I try everything but Nada

Chances are its a driver conflict. I just recently went through the last 15 or so driver releases trying to get a vega 56 working, and I also used some drivers on 470's and 480. From driver to driver the dual mining quits working. like for me the newest beta driver doesnt dual mine but the current stable does. mess with different drivers to get the dual mining working

I m using msos with Phoenix client (linux) :
my config :
-eworker RigRayan
-epool etc-eu1.nanopool.org:19999
-ewal 0x**.**
-epsw x
-dcoin blake2s
-dpool xvg.blake2s.com:8888
-dwal **
-dpass c=XVG
-proto (AUTO)
-clgreen 1
-mode 0
-tstop 85
-tt 60
-fanmin 50
-fanmax 100

any help please because with the same config it works on Claymore

ahh ya on my MSOS rigs I'm having the same issue and I think it has to do with the current stable build having an older driver. There was talk on their discord about implementing the newest stable linux driver that was just released, but they are worried about stability. Once enough feedback comes in from the community about its stability I think they were going to update the driver.  and that may fix it. Ive even gone into the files and manually changed the config file to use dual mining and I can get it to initiate but it never hashes anything, much like my tests on windows that dual mining works driver by driver. Give it some time and Im sure it work, but for now they are actively "blocking" the dual mining info from being passed into the config file when you enter it on the web interface.

ever since 4.0b I have been having one hell of a time with my AMD rig.
I use Minerstat OS (linux based) and when they update a client its only that version available.
ever since 4.0b I have had "newer" cards have issues with stability and the OC/UV settings. I have RX 470/570/480's and the only ones I can get to work fine are 2 older 470 mining 4gb and 1 570 4gb. all the newer 570 gaming x, 480's and brand new 470 mining 8gb models all perform erratic and at low hashrate. the -altinit helps on the brand new 470 8gb models to get from 26ish mh to 29's but my OC/ UV settings are all off i cant push it nearly as far as i used to or as I can on a windows unit with 1 card. even on my windows test bench I have erratic behavior and messed up OC/UV on some cards, but not on others.

green kernels makes the new 470 8gb cards start off good but then plummet to 12ish mh. while the older 2- 470 and 1- 570 continue in the 29's..
nothing makes sense and I cant seem to get a single stable and repeatable group of settings together. what works once doesnt work again after a reboot.

before all this I had 4 cards running smoothly and with great OC/UV settings 1 card being a 480 8gb that now I have issues with.

is there something that Im missing? something that I should be trying? ive been messing with the optimized kernels but again I cant seem to find a stable repeatable situation.

thank you for any help

oh and I randomly get the "fatal error debugger detected" error some times it takes a couple reboots to clear it other times its fine

So im having some issues with the miner. Ive tried everything on my end, and cant get rid of the crashes.

here's my system:
Windows 10 home
ASUS Z270-A-PRO
G3930 Celeron
16gb of RAM
128gb SSD
1 Gigabyte vega 56

When I tried to start the miner originally I was getting a bunch of errors (namely the 1500C temp error and it would lock up the system and put all fans to max) so, i updated to the 4.0b build from 3.5.

Initially the miner was showing 2 Vega GPU's (only 1 installed) and was trying to mine with both of them at the same time. One was around 21mh/s the other was about 8mh/s (non dual mining just trying eth.) To fix this I used the -gpus 1 to tell it just to use 1 GPU, that managed to get it working and mining at normal speed using 1 "card". But, after some random time, usually around an hour into mining, the miner stops hashing and  doesnt spit out an error, eventually when you try to move the mouse or hit any key on the keyboard it locks up the system and the only option is to hard shutdown.

So with this and some searching I tried many things, removing the OC settings in Wattman (same result), updating windows (same result), then I updated the driver to the newest beta one and that managed to get it to work with out crashing. Then I implemented dual mining and tested for a couple days with no issues, so then I ran xmr-stak to CPU mine, and tested for a couple days as well. After testing for a couple days I went on vacation, came back it ran fine even through multiple internet drops (typical cable internet issues that have since been fixed with hundreds of dollars of equipment lol) each time reconnecting and continuing to hash like it should. Yesterday, I received my order for some new noctua fans and I shut down the computer and installed the fans. upon rebooting I was getting the same eventual hang in the system.

So I dug into windows update thinking it must have installed an update and was causing this issue. So I uninstalled the update that showed it installed yesterday (besides an adobe flash one as I didnt think that would affect this situation)   and its still having the same result. I updated the GPU driver to the newest beta again and still the same issue. Ive since constrained windows update even more than I had it before, to try to prevent something like this in the future.

So with both the 18.11.2 ( i think it was) and the newest 18.12.1.1 beta driver I get the same results.
below is a snippet of the log when it failed, from what I can tell its not showing any errors.

If anyone has any trick or tips to get this issue fixed please let me know, I would love to get back the random stability that I had for that short time.

(Oh and thank you Phoenix crew for getting the Nvidia DAG issue  resolved! I was finally able to use my Nvidia rig and tested it for 3 days with no issues!)

Thank you all for any help you can provide.

So after messing with it so much and it hanging in the middle of i guess an update install it destroyed my win install so i went ahead and upgraded to my new drive and installed windows 10 pro fresh. everything was good for about 3 hours then it locked up which is the longest ive been able to get it to run besides the one 12 day period randomly.
We have one Gigabyte Vega 56 and it is a real PITA as far as stability goes, even without any overclock. Basically, the problem is probably related to overheating HBM. Make sure that the temperature limit of the card is set very low (e.g. no more than 60 degrees C) because the memory will almost always be much hotter. Also the fan must be allowed go at least to 60% and you must make sure that there is relatively cool airflow for the card (i.e. don't put it in the middle where it sucks hot air from the other cards). Note that this is not Vega problem but Gigabyte problem - we have two other Vega cards from PowerColor and they work fine without any stability issues.

Thank you so much for the answer! Ive been messing with it so much but I think I finally got it stable...it was 1 major windows update that I deleted and went back to an older driver and it seems stable now. I have my settings to target 55 degrees, and there is plenty of airflow. HwInfo shows mem temp around 60 +/- 1c. I like to keep my stuff cool, and dont go over 60 ever on overall temp. But you are right this gigabyte gaming OC is a huge PITA to get working.
Thanks again for the reply!
