Some guy is offering me his 3x7970 rig for 4 bitcoins. Is that a good deal? Seems like a fair price to me. However he says I have to put it in escrow until he ships it rather than when I receive it.

Is gpu the only thing that matters? Because I'm pretty sure my dad can get as many free junk old computers from his workplace as he wants.

Money isn't a problem, I got almost $30k, however my goal was to just get 1 ghash/s for around $500. Would it be better to buy the most expensive cards possible? I thought gpu mining was almost obsolete and it wouldn't be wise to invest so much in it. I just wanted to spend a few hundreds bucks and mine for fun instead of having my laptop that I use for school run 24/7 mining 30 mhash/s.

[WTB] first mining rig

I am currently making it rain with my laptop at 30 mhash/s. I have cash to spend and free electricity so I want to buy a real rig.
Does anyone have a rig or just the cards for sale that get around 1 ghash/s for something like $500? Is that a lowball or fair price or expensive as shit?

Yeah after a day of laptop mining and seeing my .002 bitcoin profit, fuck this shit.
What gpus should I get based only on mhash/s to $ ratio? I see lots of people use 5850s.
If I get 4x5850s, would I need a big ass fan to blow them and what size power would I need?

I dont give a shit about electricity
I dont give a shit if used or not
What GPU gives the best ratio
Is it the 5850?
If it is, are there any alternatives as 5850s are hard to find.

How high could I go in my dorm without melting and going deaf?
I have over $25k rotting in the bank making .84% annual interest.
What is the average cost to ghash/s ratio?

1. I am currently in college, so I get "free" electricity, basically unlimited electricity that I'm paying for anyways
2. I started mining today on my laptop which has a 6490 that gets 30 mhash/s
3. I plugged it into this calculator http://www.alloscomp.com/bitcoin/calculator and it tells me I get almost $10 a month
4. I then plugged in 1000 mhash/s and I jizzed in my pants
5. Is a 1 ghash/s rig viable to run in a college dorm? sound, heat, price, method?

So I guess it is just random. I spammed it like 20 times and lowest I could get was like 1.8% and highest was over 10%.

For the cash deposit, why does the fee change every time, even if depositing the same amount. Is it completely random? It's not even always between the stated 1-4%.

I made a few .01 bitcoin bets over an hour ago that have already been fully confirmed but satoshidice still hasn't sent me back any winnings or .0000001s. Is it supposed to take this long for small bets?
