If you do a little research, you discover that once upon a time, Peter Thiel was quite the firebrand. His concept of what PayPal was created for, and what it could become, was remarkably revolutionary and disruptive. He was essentially an anarcho-bitcoin fanatic, with the goal of ending what he saw as a totally corrupt world financial system.
So there's two possibilities here. Either 1.) he's back on track and hoping to right his past failure, or 2.) he's hoping to sell out again for even more this time.
I can't say that I favor the odds of either one of those over the other.

It's the latter, history tells us that it's always the latter. To believe otherwise is naive. I'd wager that his initial pro-anarcho position was simply a fabrication to garner support for his business.

$120 isn't cheap? 11 million shares and a global economy that we are only hoping to get a small fraction of a percentage of ? $120 is VERY cheap when you factor in the market, incoming VC money, low float, affect on currency/monetary policy, etc. We are talking about a revolutionary game changing technology. Can you come up with something better?

I thought it should have won best picture. Argo was great, but ZDT had more gravity.
Ever heard of Joseph Goebbels? No ZDT did not deserve best picture. Neither did Kathryn Bigelow's other mediocre pro-patriotic production.
How long do chargebacks typically have to occur? It is a 30 day timeframe is it not? I'll attempt to try this, not too worried about losing a small amount of BTC. Will report back here once everything is done.
I think you guys are seriously underestimating what the power of familiarity can produce.
In my opinion, the advantage of bitcoin is it being the "first" mover in becoming a mainstream crypto-currency.
I also think the name in itself is extremely powerful. It sound simple, yet invokes a sort of cyber future image.
Litecoin and Feathercoin just sound weak in comparison. (Phonetically weak)
I think we will soon start to see threads about how much is 'insert crypto currency' in BTC instead of how much fiat is BTC worth.

I've noticed this as well. Altcoins don't really have the same marketable ring to them that bitcoin does. But that doesn't mean someone can't still create an alternative, it only further discredits the power of the current substitutes.
With the infrastructure slowly being built around it, I doubt BTC will be replaced. Especially if said businesses supporting it's usage grow exponentially after BTC garners more popularity. The only way I could see another crypto overtaking it would be through pure speculative value. However, I could see a similar idea like bitcoin being utilized and controlled by an already existing corporate entity that could successfully transition it to the mainstream. Also, have to factor in whether large corporations adopt bitcoin or whether they would go with this other idea. Right now bitcoin feels like an experiment, and many things can change from beta to alpha. Or whatever arbitrary stage you believe it's at so nobody can answer that question due to all the chaotic variables at play here.

Perhaps not Bitcoin itself, but something that allows for the same or similar system. Now that the idea is here it's not going away, it's simply going to be reinvented until some entity gets it right.
