Things like this scare me way more than hackers, I never use passwords I cant remember since the chances of losing them are so much greater than your account ever being stolen. Such a big risk when using huge passwords, a copy/paste could be wrong, a typo, you could do everything right and it still gets messed up.

Re: what causes the price to drop?

selling increases supply which lowers the price, there is a finite amount of bitcoin so supply and demand seems to be the determining factor.

Regional poll: Where do you live?

Bitcoin seems to slow during the day here (USA) and skyrocket over night which makes me think most buyers are in Europe. It would be interesting to see what the demographics are like, if theres not a lot of americans buying then a market of 300 million is still untapped and the price could go much higher.

mt gox was down for a long time so nobody was able to buy, it should go back up now

I got screwed and bought at 137, not even an hour later Mt Gox goes down. If only BitInstant would have taken longer to process the payment.

I just bought $500 worth of coins from bitinstant using bitcoin to email, got the coinapult email, put in the exact wallet that Coinbase has linked in my account there, and sent it. The next page says "Funds sent. Transaction ID:" but theres no transaction ID. Its been like 20 minutes and Coinbase has no pending transactions and blockchain doesnt show the BTC being transferred to the address I put in. Is there a delay or did coinapult just eat $500 of bitcoins?

why is it so hard to buy bitcoins?

Coinbase almost never sells and they put up a bizarre message about giving you market price 6 days later which with its current growth is completely nuts. Bitinstant doesnt seem to work anymore as everyone is saying they havent received their money in days. I cant use Bitfloor because they use Bank of America and there arent any BOA's here anymore since they went through massive downsizing. Mt Gox has an insane verification wait time. A lot of other exchange sites that people used to recommend dont even exist anymore.

So please, how are you buying bitcoins? The price is going up so people must be buying, but how? Why must it be so ridiculously difficult to buy these things?

It is definitely because the price went up and they dont want to pay

They are now making you pay upfront then giving you marketprice SIX DAYS LATER. That is extremely sketchy

Im taking my BTC elsewhere

It seems Coinbase has lost their minds as they have decided to take your money now and then giving you whatever bitcoin is worth 6 days later. Thats insane, who knows how expensive it will be in 6 days.

What are the other exchanges that have a fast verification time for USA bank accounts? From what I understand Mt Gox takes forever because of the crazy verification requirements.

Will the surge of ASIC's decrease value?
by

I was thinking of buying some coins but am worried about the Avalon shipments causing a decrease in value since they make so much money. I dont really understand how mining works and how it affects the market. Is it a bad idea to buy now? Or a bad idea NOT to buy now because of the new mining tech?
