Re: Next 10x projects picked for 2021

I am currently watching some web3 infrastructure projects other than ether.   One with potential is one that isn't really getting pumped with the rest (buy low!) is Internet Computer.   It appeals to me as a web developer as it allows full stack development in a way closer to traditional cloud VM providers like AWS.

I think there will have to be a happening.

Insane simulation theory says we will be that beginning, after we 'do what we have to' and 'ascend'.

I was once up for 6 days on ethylphenidate writing this dumb story about the frozen wastelands of our post automation future, and I literally believed God was going to flood this world and I would have to start things over in the old Greek days of eudaimonia.   It was rather... strange.

I hope all is well.

Re: Basics things to note before venturing into crypto
by

on 11/11/2021, 03:50:18 UTC
The headline is wrong.
Those advice you give only works for people who trade cryptocurrencies. And most people do that without any prior knowledge or experience. That's why people lose money. People also lose money because they gamble with unknown coins and unlisted tokens expecting higher returns. But many times those returns only turn into bigger losses.

Owning crypto and trading (especially day trading) isn't the same thing. Don't invest in crappy projects, stick with Bitcoin and maybe (only maybe) some of the more popular alts. Understand that the market moves in the direction that Bitcoin moves, so there aren't many reasons to look for something that will act differently from that trend. If you don't day-trade and gamble with your money, there wouldn't be a need for a trading guru or mentor to help you out.

The crypto world is exhilarating and heart breaking.  The only advice I have is to take a moment to assess the situation, to think about things.  Things won't 'probably' crash overnight.  Things won't 'probably' spike overnight.  Don't get caught in emotional reactions and seriously 'take your time learning about a project'.

Death. Though I may still haunt the forum after I die. Haven't decided yet.
Grin, you need a friend, so let me know when you die and decides to haunt the forum, when I die, we haunt the forum together, they say two is better than one, it will be more fun if we do it together, you haunt the Bitcoin board, I haunt the Altcoin board, we will probably need more friends whom you can assign to other boards, like scam and accusation board and the rest. 😁 Grin Grin Roll Eyes

Um I died and need a friend.  Ideally I would like to haunt shitposters, and not ones like me with good intentions but shitposters who just post shit.  Sorry I am down and in the woods and a little .... down and in the woods.. but yeah you got a  task for me?  I am a software engineer so could take on anything.

Tiny start but it is mining! 3060 LHR start of a rig.

Right now I haven't done any boosting or tweaking so getting 90MH off this 3 card rig.  I will get there.
I got the 3060 LHRs for 500 a piece so just went for it, with the gamble they will LHR unlock, but even then it seemed like a good choice.

I think I am hooked and want to build another (after adding a couple more cards to this) so really need to research which cards to buy.

Re: ICO - AltCoin | $ALT - Coming Soon

Regarding the name of your project, why did you name your project with ALTCoin? because we are very familiar with Altcoin as a global designation for tokens / coins other than Bitcoin.
On your Roadmap
Verified on BSCScan (Complete), But I see your token symbol has not been updated, as well as Social Profiles information

So we realized AltCoin in and of itself wasn't a coin that was being utilized, and it went with our theme of $ALT (Salt) for our $altyverse (pirate themed metaverse).

I am actually waiting to hear back from BSCScan, We got everything verified, just waiting for BSCScan to update everything on their end. At this point I am thinking I should have just paid to have my ticked frontlisted, because its been a few days.

The whole question about why the naming convention is 'altcoin' is already semantically loaded.   Salt would be a great name...  forget about the dollar sign just call it that?

If you are actually serious about all of this I am learning game development and while I wouldn't participate would love to see how you develop things.  We will know if you are serious or not. Wink

One world one crypto would suck.  Diversity and competition is necessary for healthy evolution.  Imagine one gene pool one gene set?  Hopefully it won't be you.

I was about to bring up liberties and all but that is such a loaded word.  I am believing this only for overall efficiency.

You might want to flesh it out a little bit before posting.  Its not like someone is going to steal your idea as NFT game platforms are being proposed left and right and have actual proof of concepts already.
Also not sure I would call that a whitepaper but rather just your website?  The whitepaper will focus on the problem you are solving and your solution and should be included along with your roadmap and dev team type of stuff.

Also 'altcoin' is not really inappropriate for a metaverse pirate game...

To be fair crypto 'boats' are well known for crashing to shore.  Some people might say risk it and swim out right now but I wouldn't be suprised if there are more opportunities on the horizon.
Ugh I believe in some of these coins so I am almost tempted to swim but oh well..

I wonder 'how' they are going to support NFTs.  I have been Googling a bit but its all speculation.  If it is in a truly decentralized manner I guess I applaud this, though it doesn't mean they are a good company just seeing the inevitable.

Re: Library ? Or Internet ?

I grew up in a Library after school.  I met people that way.  Wouldn't have it the other way.
The library also had the internet.  Libraries themselves are great for established knowledge, it takes awhile for them to buy new books (even ebooks) thus not great for anything new.
But then again they always have the internet so not really an issue.

Re: Pmalek’s Complete the Word Game and Get Merits

It would really look bad and take up a lot of space on the thread. I would probably delete it. But if you could post a link to an outside source showing the combinations, that would be fine.

That is exactly what I thought.  But for those learning to code here is the quick and dirty sloppy script I used:
Code:
import nltk
nltk.download('words')

from nltk.corpus import words

firstWords = [word for word in words.words() if len(word) == 9]
z = [word for word in firstWords if word[1] == 'o'
     and word[3] == 's']

secondWords = [word for word in words.words() if len(word) == 9]
y = [word for word in firstWords if word[4] == 'r']

print(y)
count = 0
for w in z:
    for r in y:
        print(w,r)

Now is to find a crypto corpus I can compare these possible bigrams with...

Fun fact:

There are 648774 possible word combinations for  _ o _ s _ _ _ _ _   _ _ _ _ r _ _ _ _ using the Python Natural Language Toolkit's standard english word corpus.    As a joke I was going to post them but think people might... consider that to be spam.

Re: Here Is One Reason Why Legendary Members Get So Many Merits
by
illiki23

It is great because it gives us a solid labeled dataset regarding what people like about posts.
You think?  I'm not so sure, because people give merits for a wide variety of reasons and even from one merit source to the next there are different standards as far as what constitutes a merit-worthy post.  The only consistent criterion I could see would be length, with a well-answered question (of any length) coming in at a close second.

Any labeled data is better than unlabeled!  To be fair I did mention right after this one potential issue of how people give merit for different reasons, and then literally how it might be neat to model and mine out why users give merit.  We do have the data on who gives merit to who and the information within those posts...

But just as a general mining project the model should still be able to tell multiple stories.  There was a paper and then  this old data mining challenge on Kaggle regarding the 'random acts of pizza' subreddit in modeling altruism, that is what it was about certain posts convinced people to buy or not buy someone a pizza.  We found various factors within the result model such as politeness, gratitude, and so on.

We might just end up with a decision tree which basically has a branch for each reason someone gives merit including 'fake merit/merit farming' where people give a shill account merit..

Re: Mass media manipulation - Rating system as way out to freedom ?
by
illiki23
on 02/11/2021, 19:29:56 UTC
I was thinking about the problem of fake news moderation on a trustless decentralized social media network.

The best idea I saw so far was something like the Aragon Court where you have 'moderators' staking tokens so that those who go against consensus are penalized and those that go with are rewarded - thus people are incentivized to rule in a way which they believe the population will or abstain.

But the problem is that things like politics are so polarized you will often see splits down the middle.  Not only that people are human and emotion driven and tend to 'not do their research'.  Aragon Court only works when there are situations where most people will agree on some moderation task...

Curious what others think about this task since fake news sucks (false data, not just some opinion you don't agree with).

Adding 'merit modeling' to one of our tasks (bitcointalk visualization and analytics).

It is great because it gives us a solid labeled dataset regarding what people like about posts.

There is a problem in that how do you filter out 'merit farms' from actual meritous posts so we could use things like Ranking to choose our sample for modeling.

I wonder what the model would tell us about merit givers...  I am sure there will be clusters of merit providers who are interested in different types of merit...

Re: Why I think Facebook meta may fail
by

Projects that are backed only by the community and fully decentralized will always win

No... there will always be room for both centralized and decentralized systems.  There are many use cases for centralized systems where no trust issues occur.

And unfortunately there will always be people who do not care about trust issues.

As for Facebook I think they will fail for everyone else because they are giving people more and more reasons to care about trust issues (Cambridge Analytica, recent leaks about internal processes, etc) and frankly ran by a weird looking Alien.

Re: Can you Buy NFT Crypto? How Do you Make Money with NFT?
by
illiki23
on 31/10/2021, 04:13:56 UTC
Step 1:  Find a real use case.
Step 2:  Profit?
The problem:  Step 1.

The whole point is the vast majority of these NFTs have no real use case value.   Do gamers care about centralization versus decentralization when it comes to their item inventories?  Not really, they don't give a damn about privacy.

What I am annoyed at is that it took so many speculative use cases to result in the almost ridiculously obvious idea to have assets that can be transferred across games.  Why isn't this a thing? Why has it taken a new paradigm to do something so simple?

Also the idea of placing collectible value on a picture of a baseball player on a piece of carboard is silly when you can do it just as easily digitally...  this seems like a decent use case..  Is it?

Re: Is the guy running the Bitcointalk Visualization Project absolutely insane?

Even if you do it for your own fun, this is a high time consuming project. Would it be profitable by anyway?

Not everything is about profit my potential friend.  Some things are about taking one step at a time and living life on life's terms.  (sorry just been saturated with AA sayings lately)
Yeah eventually I will get filthy rich (ugh would have been by now if I didn't sell my tokens) it is just I want to have fun in the process.  And I guarantee if given the opportunity I can do something new and unexpected.

In the meantime is there anything I can do to entertain you within the context of visualizing bitcointalk forum threads?  (lots of cools stuff...)
