I am posting this here because I am unable to register on the Namecoin forums because the OpenID login system, and user registration email activation is broken; and because the Wiki does not allow regular users to create new pages, and because no one in irc://freenode.com#namecoin has responded in a week to my requests for assistance.

I will fix this.

Counterfeit-Proof Physical Bitcoins
by
indolering
on 12/02/2014, 01:38:24 UTC
My apologies if this is in the wrong sub-forum or if shameless self promotion is not allowed, but I figured out a viable scheme for physical Bitcoins which is (almost) entirely resistant to counterfeiting and I wanted to share with the community.  It's a long piece but it basically extends hash functions and traditional attack analysis to physical coins.

Quote
The problem with current “physical” Bitcoins systems is that their production cost scales at O(1+v*m*n) (upfront + btc value x materials x n) while the attack cost is only O(1+m*n). Storing the physical one-way hash of the individual coins on Namecoin would make such coins “counterfeit-proof” in that the attack cost scales at some multiple of the production cost.  This is a major breakthrough for both Bitcoin as well as currencies more generally.

I am stepping down (i.e. not paying) for the Seattle meetup.  Usually no one came and the meetup fees have cost waaay more than I have made in BTC : (

The group is open for a new leader, and paid through august.

CGMiner config file syntaxa
by
indolering
on 24/09/2011, 02:24:12 UTC
I posted this in the cgminer thread, and was summarily ignored.  It's 83 pages long anyhow, time to start new threads!

I am trying to use the config file, but ran into 3 config switches which refuse to work.

All of the following auto-fan/gpu permutations fail:
Code:
"auto-fan" : "true",
Code:
"auto-fan" : "1",
Code:
"auto-fan" : "",

Trying to select for a single device is troublesome:
Code:
"device" : "1",
Results in GPU 0 and 2 being disabled.

Code:
"device" : "2",
Results in GPU 0 and 1 being disabled.

Code:
"device" : "2",
"device" : "1",
Results in GPU 0 and 1 being disabled.

Can you clarify the syntax for these commands?

Also, can you query for what the automatically detected values for vectors and worksize?
Thanks!

I am getting an array error as well, "Error: Subscript used with non-Array variable"

Windows 7 64bit Ultimate, fully patched
3x 5830's

I tried dropping a downloaded atiadlxx.dll into system32, no dice.  Of course, it could be malware as I did download it from what looked like a content farm (it did pass a Total Virus check).

Another meeting tomorrow, I wanted to know who was planning on coming.  I have an invitation for a hike, so if no-one is planning on joining me, I would like to post-pone it for a week.

I started a Facebook event here.

@btcvc Based on the posts here, I think half-a-dozen is a good estimate.

If someone want's to spring for a Meetup membership (~50/6months), it could bring on more people...

Can you give any details Cablesaurus?  Looking to get my mobo soon.  If you are about to start selling these splitters at a reasonable price, it will be a mATX with 2 slots.  Otherwise, I will be getting an ATX with the max number of slots I can afford...

Thanks,
-Zach

They are ~$200/pop  Angry

They must be doing low volume.  Maybe someone from Cablesaurus could do a large order and get the price down to something reasonable?

@DaCoin, I'm up for Saturday, if that wouldn't mess everyone else up...  Is there a time that would work best?

MicroATX or FlexATX mobo recommendations?
by
indolering
on 04/08/2011, 16:12:53 UTC
Anyone have a 4 slot PCI-express flex or micro ATX recommendations?

There is a cheap G5 case that I am looking to drop one of these into (excellent airflow design).  A normal ATX board requires a lot of modding.  I just want to drop and go Smiley

I have found a few, but they have been relatively expensive -near $200 with CPU.  I can get a complete rig for $275...
Thanks,
-Indo

Breel, DaCoin, you in?  That's two votes for UW.  The last meetup was in Queen Anne so U district seems reasonable...
