The bitcoin wallet default placement seems to be in the bitcoin data directory. Is it possible to specify a different placement?

restoring dumpfiles
by

I have some dumpfiles. from 4 bitcoin installation on my W1ndows 10 desktop. I am running the latest version. The dumpfiles  where created with the previous version-

when running the command "importwallet" I get 2 different responces.

"null"  which I interpret as  OK

"Error: std::bad_alloc"  which I do not understand.

I have checked the input files and they  look ok

Suggestions?

It seems that I have 2 user ID: My error. Will keep this one.

Trying to use the information I got so far.

In this order:

Create a new "Virgin" bitcoin instance.

Disable Pruning

Run a full update.

Try a dumpwallet import.

Is this recommended procedure.?

I wonder  what the real purpose for creating a dumpfile is. It clears the wallet so what can you use a dumpfile  for (except import).
it would be nice to have a possibility to recreate a wallet.

Maybe someone has already created a useful tool that uses a dumpfile as input?  Except "importwallet"

You'll have to synchronize your wallet again, without pruning

Question:
Is that a procedure I should do on the target instance. How do I specify that?

Re: Consolidate wallets Stuck!
by

This is the situation:
The wallets I want to consolidate are in dumpwallets. When the dumpwallets where created the corresponding wallets where cleared.
If anyone has a suggestion for a solution that make use of the dumpfiles I would appreciate it very much  since that is the only resource I have.

I have also tried to load the dumpfile back to the bitcoin instance where it was originally "dumped" from. Same result.

importwallet "C:\Users\Ingvar\Desktop\WalletsDesktop\DumpedWallets\UsersAdministratorDesktopWalletsDesktopGwallet.dat"

The "Import" command gives the same error message:

"Importing wallets is disabled when blocks are pruned (code -4)"

Stuck!!

Anyone has an idea how to get around this. The dumpfile is what I have

(I know. I should have taken a backup of the wallet before creating the dumpfile)

Consolidate wallets
by

I have 4 instances of bitcoin installed on my desktop and laptop. I want o consolidate them to one  version.

I have a  "virgin" running and will consolidate the other  3 into it

If I have understod it correctly I have 2 choices.

1. Transfer the funds the convential way
2. Create dumpfiles from the donators and import these files to the new fresh instance.

Option 2 seems to be the simple way and also provides me with backup files but I would like get some cons and pros from this forum.
A related question is if the donator wallets are cleared by the dumpwallet command.

Thanks
Ingvar.

There is something here that I do not understand. A wallet to me is something that contains money or other valuables. A bitcoin wallet sounds to me to contain bitcoins. Why does it seem so complicated to figure out how much there is in my wallet?? Somebody smart must have written a "wallet inspector"??

It seems a bit difficult to find out how many bitcoins a specific wallet contains.
How does people keep track of it? Manually??

Excellent info, thanks. Questions:

 - importwallet "filename"  I assume that "filename" is the actual wallet   xxxx.dat or is it a dumpfile
 - Where do I specify the actual command?

Found how to specify the commands

Thank for the information. To be more specific. I just want to do a one time shot. I only want do a one way "import" of the Canaria "import" and then forget about the Canaria wallet. It was really a mistake to have separate wallets. So it is one shot.

The Bitqoin program bitcoin-qt runs ok and obviusly finds the wallet. opening the wallet shows data that is unreadable. Running bitcoin-qt is no problem. Is there a program I can use that can show me the content of the wallet?
