Re: How I got my stubborn neighbour working for a central bank to adopt Bitcoin
by

on 30/06/2023, 15:25:44 UTC
Honestly, I like to mind my business, but I got it loose yesterday evening when a co-neighbour invited all of us to a birthday party. Normal, gist went on until this elderly neighbour working for CBN (Central Bank of Nigeria) as a director in one of their branches stated that people now launder money in Bitcoin thereby making it difficult for the law enforcers to trace. This is where I took it personally, else I would have been a bastard of BTT.

Me: Let what you use your coin for judge you sir, Bitcoin is a good investment, and not evil.
Neighbour: Are you really sure???
Me: 99.9999%.
Neighbour: Your living standard shows this could truly be positive. My son and wife have disturbed me on this on several occasions, I am only stubborn about it. I'm in...I will use my son in the US for it, he knows about it, and it is against my work here in Nigeria.
Me: Smiles, I know.
Neighbour: Thanks man...I will start with 1BTC if only you show me proof that you have a sufficient amount in there.
Me: I gat you sir...there is nothing to gain by lying to you. It's your coin, your money and yours to safely keep...I have nothing to gain or lose.
Neighbour: Okay

I couldn't believe it!!! Can you imagine like a play, I was able to convince a whole CBN man to do 1BTC? But I hope he doesn't change his mind. Even if he does, I'm proud to have stood for Bitcoin in such a situation.

The people that work in this type of parastatals do have a good knowledge and benefit of Biticion however most are handicapped especially when their country does not support it .
Bitcoin can be done privately, except if you divulge your information, nobody will know if you own a wallet but most people don't know this and tend to stay away. I don't see this as a threat to anyone aside from a way to invest and make more money while in paid employment. From the conversation I read btw you and your neighbor, I don't see your neighbor as a rigid person all your neighbor needed was a push and you were able to achieve that.

Re: Gospel Preachers: Is Bitcoin the Last Currency in the World?
by

on 30/06/2023, 15:10:32 UTC
I have been planning to create this thread for more than three months but today I decided to drop the thread.
When I was a little child, Missionaries like Jehovah Witness Brethren and other Pentecostal Church preachers who was preaching the Holy Bible says, time will come in the whole world that everyone will use ONE CURRENCY and anyone who refused to use that currency can not buy things in any store. And the way BITCOIN is, it is accepting by the whole world. And Bitcoin is growing step by step.

we all want Bitcoin to grow and gain more popularity and usage but I don't think that the world can be subjected to just one currency.
The holy book did mention this,  but I won't want this to sound like we are in a biblical school. Something like this may happen on the last day but I will suggest that we dont bring religion here.

Many parents don't know how their children are doing in schools because probably the family is poor or no proper family planning and check up. I saw a student looking sick and hungered 6 months ago,

Everyone has equal benefits. It now depends on what you understand about trading with cryptocurrencies. The risk and benefits. Don't get me wrong, all investment has its risky side. In Bitcoin, You will learn about the gains and falls by making investments in Bitcoin.
With Bitcoin, Transactions are private and easily made. Understanding crypto before buying cannot be overemphasized. You need to understand your coins before commencing trading else you can lose your money.

Re: A bitcoin retirement plan with a disturbing length of years.
by

on 23/06/2023, 20:05:09 UTC
I have this colleague of mine at workplace who is a bitcoin enthusiast just like me. Often times at work when we're less occupied with our job we kind of spend such moment's  discussing about bitcoin generally. Two days ago he was telling me about his plans to start buying BTC with 20% of his salary every month for the rest of the years he has to retirement that's when he will then take it all. And based on the company total years of service he has 16 years left to his retirement.

With the way he was talking to me about it he appears to know exactly what he's about to do and how its going to end for him. But for me his idea has left some apprehension and questioning in my head due to the length of years (good 16 years) he is going to keep up with. From my angle the years are too much as no one can certainly say for sure about what the future of cryptocurrency and bitcoin holds despite how positive it could be looking today.

In my opinion I wanted to talk to him with a logical conclusion why he should reduce the length of years, not to do it at a stretch of straight 16years he has in mind without applying risk management technique, maybe by splitting those 16years into four interjecting years. As in he should in every 4 years be taking 50% of whatever total amount plus profit  till it gets to the 16years he planned. At least in worst case scenario this method could save him something reliable to fall back onto.

How do you guys think about this idea of mine for my colleague? Can it really be helpful to him in the long run or it may just obstruct his original plan killing the whole idea?  Please all opinions are entertained but whatever your opinion might be, also try to put the length of years involved into consideration.(16 years)

16 years of saving 20% of his salary into BTC may be a wrong and risky move because of the uncertainty. I feel he should not dive into this if the saving is really towards retirement.
Money saved for retirement purposes should be kept as safe as possible. I want to believe that the organization he currently works with has a retirement saving account for him already because this is done for all employees in my home country. In my country, there's a retirement saving plan called AVC(additional voluntary contribution), which is an additional voluntary inflow save towards retirement, here the employee can instruct the employer to deduct an X amount of money from the salary and add to the mandatory contributions. I will suggest that your friend take this type of approach because Pension contributions are largely invested in secured investments with minimal risk instead of investing his hard earn money in BTC for 16 years.

I will also suggest that he can do like 5% in BTC for the duration of 16 years(Take the interest as often as possible) In my own opinion,20% is too high. However, if the retirement plan stated above is not available in his workplace then he should invest 15% out of the 20% in a more secure investment because he's saving towards retirement while 5% goes into BTC.

Some schools of thought will say that Bitcoin's security is determined by the higher the cost, the more secure. I do not agree with the school of thought totally but Before buying a hardware wallet to keep huge amounts in it for a long time transaction, it is very good to check the vulnerability.its good to play safe

Re: Bitcoin and cash are more important than ever.
by

on 21/06/2023, 12:16:53 UTC
I decided to give myself a birthday present of £100 worth of premium bonds. I started the payment request on the NS&I website, and I have done this several times in the past using my card reader. It's usually fairly straightforward with only one request to use the card reader. This time was different, as it took me to an intermediate site run by a company called ecospend - here is their public sector declaration. https://ecospend.com/public-sector/
This is obviously a foretaste of things to come. It first asked me to use my card reader to create a one time code, and it used that to access my account, and told me my current balance - well I already knew that. Then it took me to a page and asked a load of questions with personal details, and the purpose of the payment. It then went through the normal payment process on the card reader to take the money. Previously I got immediate notification of the transfer in my NS&I account. I did all this over an hour ago, and I still haven't received notification. I phoned Nationwide ( my bank ) to check on the payment, and everything seems to be legitimate. This seems to be the start of a move to a new  payment system, and government surveillance of the way we use our money.

Watch this thread for more details.

Cash has always been very important because of its availability to use when the need arises and we cannot underestimate the power of cash like Bitcoin. Bitcoin transactions are not as fast compared to the cash at hand and this is due to strict rules around validation which is understandable because every country wants to put checks in place so as to regulate the inflow into its country. In years to come, Bitcoin will gain more popularity and importance.

FreeBitco will give you free Bitcoin if You maintain a balance of 30,000 Satoshis (0.0003 BTC) in your wallet. A friend says that the credit to an individual account is daily. But It is good to do detailed research before investing because there's no free lunch even in free town this day.

Bitcoin is not for everyone, but we cannot over-emphasis its benefit. For awareness' sake, it is good to talk about it but not enforced it. Am not sure that Bitcoin's popularity is enough as we speak also your growth in Bitcoin should convince and want to make people invest willingly.
I want to believe that the forum that enforce people to join Biotcion has seen all the benefits but the approach shouldn't have been to force but enlighten them. It is important that you talk about it AND afterward encourage them to do their research.

Interesting story. I will say, you should understand the divorce terms and conditions. if the term says 50/50, so be it. But with digital currencies, This can be kept so safe and private without the woman's knowledge also it can be argued. What if the man invested the 12BTC on behalf of someone?

In digital currency too, there are advantages and disadvantages, especially in the occurrence of death and no one knows the key.

Re: Do you feel bad while paying with BTC?

Paying with Bitcoin is a choice really but if you aren't comfortable paying with Bitcoin because you think that you might be paying more, why not liquidate the coin to your legal tender and pay? Also, remember that at that particular period, you may be paying more or lesser using Bitcoin because its price is not static.
My concern now is that if we then shy away from paying with Bitcoin, how do we create more awareness, adaptability, and acceptance of this coin? I will conclude by saying use your Bitcoin diplomatically.

As a student, it's good to be forward-thinking. However, you need to be careful since Bitcoin is not acceptable in your country.
Before subsequent investment,  I will suggest that you do your research very well and don't just rely solely on other people's results because it is very important to know when to terminate an investment.

We all advocate for change but do we really embrace change? Convincing people to invest in Bitcoin or exchange goods or services with Bitcoin is not an easy task, especially for the novice.

Firstly, You gave customers the opportunity to buy your farm produce at a discounted rate using Bitcoin but did you consider if they have a wallet? The answer is probably NO especially the "not so young" Some may not have even heard of cryptocurrencies while some may have heard but don't know how to go about it, now to convince them to own a wallet is not child's play because some people tend to focus on the negatives more than the positives.

To achieve this successfully, you need to consider your location, know your customer, know your market target, target age, etc. Then make the payment plan as flexible as possible, you should not limit it to Bitcoin.

If you don’t invest, how do you tend to make more money? Keeping money in the bank these days is a waste of effort. The purpose of investment is to make a profit and not necessarily for riches.

Please don’t get me wrong, Investing can make somebody rich and at the same time can make one poor. This is why portfolio diversification is always advised. If one investment goes bad, others may not because all investments can go bad at the same time.

We should also note that not all investments are risky so choose wisely when investing. Sometimes, the higher the risk, the higher the return so before considering any investment, it is important that we carried out due diligence.

Research before investing cannot be over-emphasized. Bitcoin as a financial market is not predictable so whichever you choose to invest in, be ready for the outcome.

In conclusion, investing doesn't guarantee riches because you may lose or gain. The gain may not even amount to wealth.

The cost will be high for people paying with Bitcoin but if it is not an everyday thing, I think users will cope but if you can avoid paying using Bitcoin to pay for goods and services whenever it's high, I feel it is the best.  With Bitcoin, I want to believe that Demand is more than supply, and when supply is limited, rates will be high. It’s a law of demand and supply.

Most investments are risky, so Bitcoin is not the most risky investment. In the early days of Bitcoin, I did not buy tho but I want to believe that its acceptance would not be easy however, the people that believed in it faced it head-on and some got the dividend because nobody can ascertain when BTC will be at its maximum.

The people that knows how Bitcoin works will not buy the lies because of the knowledge. But because of the fluctuation in rates/prices, it's easy to tell the lie because nobody wants to lose the money invested.
In my opinion, many see Bitcoin as gambling because of its volatility and I think these narratives need to be changed also I want to believe that Bitcoin is a threat to banks, with this, the banks will want to spread negative news to the government and citizens. The bank's concerns and fears aren't now but the future.

The country is trying to play smart and also to prevent its citizens and economy from attacks.

For cryptocurrency to be acceptable in countries, compromises have to be reached else, the efforts will be frustrated. I want to believe that a country like the USA would have done its due diligence and want to leverage on the positives.
