Re: Using stove power outlet for mining?

Certainly don't just buy a "adapter" and use a standard surge protector with it, because the plug fits.  Standard surge protectors are rated at 15A, in the USA at least.  ... You're talking multiple rigs anyway, right?  So you're going to want a PDU.  Spend the money on it, before you blow everything up.

And as we've seen in this very thread ... Electricians don't know everything.

I'm planning to buy this adapter : https://www.amazon.ca/Conntek-P1450650-Generator-250-Volt-Adapter/dp/B00SSQIYLU
and a 40 amp PDU to distribute the power and not blow anything up lol
I'll be using around 3500+Watts. I'll talk with an electrician just in case... thanks for your help.

That isn't the proper female plug for a 240V PDU. Most 240V PDUs have a L6-30P.

If you goto Lowes or Home Depot you can buy the parts needed to make an adapter.

Your panel is only 100 amp max. Looks like you have no more room for a 240v circuit. A 240v circuit requires a double pole breaker, or in your panel's case, double pole fuse. These are the black rectangles in your panel.

I would recommend upgrading your panel to a 200amp unit. This will allow you to use breakers vs fuses.

hi all the black rectangle 230v 30a spots are unused expect the one that says AC

Do you have an electric stove/range? electric water heater? electric furnace for heat? electric clothes dryer? All of these use 240v

Look at what the Ethereum difficulty has done in the last 2 weeks.
By the time you get those cards you are searching for they'll be earning 25% less.  Undecided

The impact of every AMD video card on the planet coming online:

http://www.coinwarz.com/difficulty-charts/ethereum-difficulty-chart

Yep, buddy of mine just lit up a 240 GPU mini farm last week hashing 7GH on ETH. Planning to add another 400 cards over the next few weeks, slowly turning into a mini whale.

Omg. It's the cancer of this planet - looking for more profit, when difficulty is going skyhigh... Why everybody can't be good with 10-20-50 gpus even 100. No everybody whose in take not 10 but 200 cards burning lots of power (especially in Ukraine or Russia or Belarus where power cost is 2-4c), they mine like hell, but it's going to be less for everyone when they try to catch up with the biggest cake... 1000 gpus farms are now small... My god what it has ddone. About 19M Cards is mining eth alone? WTF?

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em

1070 is better than 570 or 580 for ZEC.

Isn't there any correlation between max load capacity and line wire thickness ?

Yes, there is.

It depends on the amperage and the distance/length of wire run.

I'm using that same power supply to power the cards in my rig. It is ok to leave it on while your system reboots.

Shed is a great idea. With 3000cfm fan pulling from inside your house your home A/C would never keep up anyway and would run constantly, taking all your mining rewards. The size(mining are) isnt that important...getting the heat out quickly is. I hope to have my shed delivered in the next two weeks. I still have to get underground power over there but shouldnt be much of an issue. Im going with a 36" 5000cfm fan. I will be getting a 12x26 shed and dividing it off only to use a smaller portion for my mining room( approx 10x12 area). The rest will be storage. If you havent got yours situated by then maybe i will have more advice at that time. I think the shed is the proper way to go.

Definitely keep me posted, even just update your journey in this thread if you'd like!

Why did you choose a 5000cfm fan?

for 20-30 rigs with 6x cards each in a 12x12 how much fan am I going to need?

What's the best setup for the fan? blow through intake on right exhaust on left side, or intake vents on both left and right with 2 big attic exhaust fans in the middle? Just want to build the most efficient setup possible you know?

You will have to determine the total cubic feet of the space your trying to cool. So if your space is 10x12x8 = 960 cubic feet
If you get a 3000 CFM (cubic feet per minute) fan, it will take about 20 sec to displace that space with "new air".
You will also need to consider intake and exhaust, make sure you have adequate airflow.

You ever have a 18" box fan and cover the back of it with something? It kills the air flow. Samething could happen with your setup.

Re: How many of you use dual PSU?
by
jMEGA
on 02/05/2017, 04:14:23 UTC
I have hundreds of altcoin rigs running 2-3 PSUs.....there is no reason not to especially since you can power the graphics cards off of higher end server power supplies at a fraction of the cost of an expensive ATX supply.

You can buy a cheap no name brand ATX psu to power the board and run a high quality PSU on the graphics cards.
I'm thinking of applying this to my build, but I'm not really familiar with Server PSU's .
The rig I'm doing is going to include 7 RX470's; will most PSU's around the 1200W work with this many GPU's? At a guess i'd say I'd need to do some electrical work on it to connect up the PCI-E plugs
I've been looking through ebay and found this one which might work?

If there's somewhere else I should be looking, do let me know

Re: The Vega benchmark has it barely beating a 1070, here's why that's good.
by
jMEGA
on 01/05/2017, 19:29:38 UTC
So if you have been following Vega at all and hoping it will be great for mining then you probably saw the leaks in the last 24hr. The leaks suggest that Vega is currently edging out the 1070, now you may think why is this good? Well this leads us to thinking there will be multiple varients of the Vega cards, this could be the low end Vega and we could get a starting price of $250-$300, since the 1070 is $340 and AMD has to be ready to combat a price drop anytime. A low end Vega card may also just be binned higher ups (this is was and has done historically with their CPUs and it could go with their GPUs as well) allowing for great hashrate with lower wattage.

Can you kindly share the links to the benchmarks?

When is vega's release date?  Will rx470/480 become obsolete for gpu mining when vega comes out? Should i wait ?

Do you have any rigs currently? Depending on your current rig you can take advantage of the RX470 performance/power consumption ratio.

why not mine ETH or ZEC and sell some to buy Myriadcoin.
I did. It would be faster and cheaper to do this vs trying to mine it.
