The big question here...

Can this be reprogrammed if Monero changes their algo again?

So.  What programming languages and information should I be learning so that I can better understand this stuff?  In school now.

Those aren't in mass production yet.

You have said in the other thread that you mine using AWS and own a couple FPGAs yourself....  Could you please display them working before you start asking people about money?

VCU1525 has 2 x QSFP28 connectors, so you link 2 boards with 2 x 100 gigabit ethernet cables, and two boards is the max that can be daisy chained.  With the Bittware XUPP3R board, since it has 4 x QSFP28 connectors, there is no limit to the daisy chain length.  These specialized ethernet cables have nothing to do with internet, they are solely so data can flow from one FPGA board to the next board.  The cables are around $40 each.

Personally I think GPU mining will still be around for a while.  I believe the market is going to rise so dramatically this fall that all existing GPU rigs will be making a lot of money, even with rises in difficulty.

Whitefire are you willing to meet in person to demonstrate your work?  You have a PM about it.  Please let me know.

I have messaged OP about flying out and seeing a working demonstration.  I would need to confirm it working before spending thousands of dollars on something brand new.

I hope he responds.  I could fly to wherever he is as soon as early next week.

Do you know if these things will work plugged into USB 2.0?

Is Monero the only coin about to hit all-time satoshi/btc value?
by

As the title says, Monero is back at its all-time high levels of BTC value.

Is there any other coin that is doing this? And what does this mean XMRs future value?

Run X16r
That is Ravens new 16 algorithm switcher right?  Yeah. I was thinking that may be a good benchmark as well.... The question is, are any of those 16 actually taxing any limits? Because I would like to limit the 'benchmark burn in' portion of building rigs, and not spend days doing it Tongue

so far I have heard: Ethereum, Skein, Equihash, Groestl, Neoscript, scrypt-n

Seem like a good rundown so far?

Most Stressful Algorithms to Benchmark settings with?
by

So I am setting up my cards bios settings, clocks, voltages, etc. In fine tuning my cards to be stable mining Ethereum, I noticed they would become unstable when switching to Equihash or another algorithm.

Considering I would like to be able to switch coins in the future with minimal effort after initial setup, are there a good list of some of the most taxing algorithms to benchmark your settings on?

Motherboard wont detect specific GPUs, but detects others, and GPUs work.
by

I am complete lost and searching for clues at this point.

I have a motherboard that will not detect 3 different cards, but it will detect all other cards, and these 3 cards work in other motherboards...

A specific r9 380x. 39 390. and rx 580... When these 3 cards are inserted into the motherboard at all, it simply will not post.... Motherboard works fine with others rx 580s and rx 480s, and these cards work fine in other motherboards...

Does anyone have any idea?

Should I power MB/CPU with basic PSU to take load off GPU PSU?
by
jamesgalb
on 22/03/2018, 23:41:30 UTC
I have a rig of 4 RX 580s on a 850w Corsair RMx.  They pull just under 700w from the wall.

Considering I have a spare 450w PSU from an older Dell PC sitting around, would it help my 850w PSU at all if I split off the MB and CPU to the spare PSU? A splitter is under $10.

by
jamesgalb

1500 cfm each , they use around 260 watts each

noemaly i only ever have 4 on but with comininf spring
ive had to turn all six on which is not ideal.  Next few weeks
ill add ain intake fan 2500 cfm , to bring in outside air , that way the
total air in the garage gets exchanged faster ,

it should reall help impove tempa even further

How long have you been running your farm?  Just the Winter?

Re: $240 for CPU/MB/RAM/PSU for every 8 GPUs. Good or bad?
by
jamesgalb
on 12/03/2018, 15:56:04 UTC
You will have to excuse me for not listing my part list, as they are not unlimited in supply and I dont want them disappearing Wink

This setup does assume I will be able to find 750w-850w 80+ PSUs for ~$70, 2 per 8 cards. I typically can find Corsair or EVGA products on sale from time to time and swipe up a few, so not much of an issue there... PSUs would be used to push 470s, 480s, 1070s, 1060s, etc.  Wouldnt be pushing 1080tis or 390xs or anything that power hungry, but if I did I would adjust the PSU accordingly.

Ultimately, I can get the base setup for $100-$110 before PSUs and Cards, for an 8 card rig.  It seemed like a good deal compared to what I had been looking at, but was curious if others knew of anything better... The responses seem to confirm it is good Smiley

I am sure I could set up one of those 12-24+ PCIE motherboards for similar or less overall cost, but I hear things begin to become more of a headache the more cards you add to a single motherboard.

$240 for CPU/MB/RAM/PSU for every 8 GPUs. Good or bad?
by

on 12/03/2018, 13:35:09 UTC
I right now have a setup which gets me my CPU, MB, Ram and PSU all for $240, all enough to power 8 GPUs

Is this a good rate for the supporting system?  Or are people privy to less expensive systems that can be built?

I am about to build some custom made mining rig frames, and was curious as to what makes for a good non-conductive surface that I can screw stand-offs into.  I was initially wanted to use wood, but would rather use something more fire-resistant Smiley

Re: Grow Tent with 100F air intake?
by
jamesgalb
on 02/03/2018, 17:35:59 UTC

You are probably going to want to pull air in from the outside and from below the height of the GPUs then exhaust it back to the outside above the GPUs.

To figure out how powerful of a fan you will need, plug in the heat load in Watts (basically the at-the-wall power consumption) and the temperature rise, delta-T, in degrees Celsius (assume 20-30C) into this equation:

CFM = (1.756 * Watts) / (delta-T)

So, for example, 2000 W with a 20 C temp rise allowed will require a minimum of 175 CFM. That's the ideal case, of course.

Apologies for the mixing of Imperial and Metric units, but using degrees F makes the equation cumbersome while converting from cubic meters / second to CFM is relatively easy.

So help me out here Smiley

I am not sure what the "Temp Rise" will be...

But we are assuming 3000w (4000w+ eventually), in a 48"x48"x80" tent.  I was planning to run an exhaust fan ducted out of my garage at 700+ cfm, pulling in cooler air from the bottom vents at the floor of the garage.  Do I need that much?  And would the negative pressure collapse the tent?

Here is the tent: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M9E10HP/
