Re: [ANN] Blackcoin [BLK] | The Original Proof of Stake Coin | No ICO | No Pre-mine
by

Recap:
Two people to keep an eye on:

'Rat'/'Dolittle': Original creator of BLK but really reclusive and non-communicative. Recently appeared after being gone for nearly a year.

janko33bd: Developer who's here since the start but did by far the most development work on BLK since the release. Constantly modernizing the coin and keeping it up with the latest features in crypto (all in the Lore build). Also responsible for the coloured coin for BLK system IRIS.

Rat made a cryptic announcement about a Blacknet airdrop. No further details whatsoever. Yet at the same time it became clear that he wouldn't accept any updates on the regular BLK chain. We don't know why, and ultimately it doesn't matter, Janko is just able to continue working on BLK through Lore, the major exchanges already side with his build anyway.

This means that for Rat to be able to do anything at all, he needs to get the community's consensus. He can release an airdrop on BLK or not, but it's not going to affect BLK itself unless he involves the rest.

So that's where we're at now. You can play the 'time the airdrop' game if you want, people have gotten very rich of it in the past. But truth be told is that Rat is currently the only person who knows what it actually is, and exchanges absolutely don't accept unannounced snapshots which are fraudulent. In other words, although I very much would like to see people buying BLK in anticipation, there's also nothing wrong with holding back and wait for any actual confirmation that exchanges are on board with this, because as of now, they're not.

The rest of the community just proceeds on their own term, which is quite exciting in and of itself as we're moving towards ETH-style smart contracts soon. The coloured coins are already operational, the scripts and release platform is up next.

True that. Rat was the original developer but I think the future for blackcoin relies with Janko.
This developer is unmatch, Zimbeck and Buterin apart.

Suppose a problem occures, Janko is here to fix it, with Rat we had to ask Janko to step in. Rat is a talented dev, i think but after his last announcement (1 year ago or so) nothing happend. In summary
BlackNet can be expected between now and 1 year.
Blackcoin is safe with our new leader: Janko.

Oneitis symptoms can be cured when seen early.
There is no new leader, there never was a leader.
This is a property of decentralization. Look in history,
every king has been overthrown, same here.
It's just a sign of maturing community realizing
it can be ruled by itself. Don't be sheep

I don't work on blackcoin alone,
every help with dev get's BLK.

They got over 4K till now,
your help is appreciated.

What games are you guys playing. Is there a plan to fork blackcoin.

No games only coding Wink

imminent plan is to go for 0.16 btc base, then quickly update goji, trezor, blackcoinj, pharos, rsk....
other fronts can be seen on redit like restyling, more info, wiki, documentation..
and get some businesses involved too

The founders must understand human nature, understand economics, have ideals, and have technology. There is a farsighted view.

RAT4 is just a technical expert.

This is wrong forum to complain about BLK  Roll Eyes , this is about Blacknet now

Hi,

A question for devs

What was the motivation to change from PoSv2 to PoSv3?
was  only to have a stable block reward?

as far as I know v3 has some problems with missing balances. Had v2 the same problem?

Thanks for your answer!!

rat4 never explained it to this day, but pos v3 never had problems with missing balances

Hi guys and girls! Is there any fresh blackcoin bootstrap out there?
Update: just noticed that this is blacknet already (pre-ann?).
TLDR anyone?

Not sure if there is a newer one, but this runs up to May 17 2017
Link and instructions on reddit
https://www.reddit.com/r/blackcoin/comments/6b3imq/blackcoin_bootstrapdat_up_to_block_1631800/

Lore wallet is really fast loading the chain though, try it without any bootstrap
The listed bootstrap may not work with Lore

bootstrap works in Lore, old wallet.dat not!

Good we get solid confirmation, can we not have competition within the protocol and still proceed forward.   The wider world has far larger problems we must still overcome.  I can see chaos occurring with world reserve currency at some point, these calm waters now wont always be here and BLK must be ready to survive harder times right?
We have more then one wallet to choose from and neither of them obstruct the others so I dont see a negative to that exactly.    Isnt there always going to be the idea of choosing direction with POS and we go with the best solution.  Capitalism is competitive and open at its heart and hopefully we all benefit from staying true to that.

let's cooperate.
This is better then a one man band right, having more then one Dev to Blackcoin's credit it seems more positive and constructive long term that way right.    My ironic take from this is activity means Rat4 is more active now, it is a positive development Smiley

Competition within the protocol is a positive thing, I think communication within the Dev Group & with the broader community is also important. Although we may feel a schism approaching at the moment, we should come at it with a "Wait & See" attitude. Good will come from multi-pronged approaches to the future of BLK, and the community will vote with our wallets. I would encourage ALL the Devs to communicate (amongst themselves & the community) and work towards the good of the coin.

Do not lose sight of the big picture.

Sorry to disappoint you but one man band it is,
dev's who volunteered to help with Lore want to continue.
More communication, more support,
don't want to loose more dev's, as it happened many times in past
I don;t blame them I was warned, (dev's from blackpool to name few)

Get on gitter, more dev's came already today too..

Have some stash which will be rewarded to all dev's who participate
goal is to create tools to let community govern itself, no kings.
Everyone is welcome, history teaches all kings were beheaded.
Crowd sourcing, voting on stakes, better ways to create your own money.

RAT4 as a main developer, long-term non-contact with the community, this is the main reason leading to BLACKCOIN long-term downturn.

Am sorry for your oneitis syndrome, but BLK is not only rat4, although he speaks occasionally(just 4 pages back..)
Community is maturing and can cure itself from this oneitis!

Am excited to see this community growing up
exhibiting first signs of becoming adult,
realizing you can choose a king to rule.

Lot's of things to do, lot's of opportunities for all
rat4 had a commit in Lore too, everyone is welcome.
feature HF, network monitoring, testnet, ios, csv..
coders, advertisers, writers, market makers,
doing this alone will not work.

much more communication is needed as it grows, not less

So choose node and stake

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/blk/#!network

network has 129 nodes with version 1.2.4
12 Lore nodes with version 2.1.12
9 nodes with version 1.2.5

Lore will notice if it's blocks are in majority and the path has been choosen..
It can even follow the next blackcoin blockchain, but with no info, no code,
no message.. it can't.

I am not so sure about the idea of a King per se as Blackcoin seems much more organic than that, and should continue in that way.
I suspect it is along the lines of: The BLK Community does not know if we have permission to evolve past rat4's lead.
I believe we do, and in his own way, rat4 has been guiding BLK to this self-deciding moment.
His code inspired many and his opinions will, in future, continue to be listened to & respected.
But he has either been forced to withdraw from the project, or chosen to do so, for now.

Since my entry to BLK, I have always felt janko33 & Gritt-N-Auld have had BLK's best interests at heart.
I trust them ... AND HOW THEY MOVE THE PROJECT.
I will continue to follow a Blackcoin that is under their joint leadership. (yup, that's a proposal)
janko33 brings awesome code to the project, while Gritt-N-Auld's voice brings continuity and direction to the community.
From what I have seen & experienced here on bitcointalk, the pair of them are either of one mind on many issues, or are able to 'talk out' issues well.

Choose a node and stake!

There are no kings, community must govern itself in the end.
Meanwhile more coders, more adverts, more communication is needed
to be able to grow, not less.

That's the main issue here.

Communication with rat4 deteriorated:
We tried to speak to him about this a year ago. We stopped getting responses, we know he is getting them as he selectively responds, we are talking about when this should all take place now. It was only when Janko brought up that he will be forking Blackcoin for new updates that he came back.

It can't work like this, I have very little hope this will change.
Lore will notice if it's blocks are in majority and the path has been choosen..
Lore can change if there is more communication, more info, code anything..

Choose a node and stake!

As for the QT anyone who builds the watchonly branch and manually adds watchonly addresses is indeed at a big risk since those accounts aren't meant to be spent. However the change you propose is not good because I use that branch for Halo. On the other hand users should build from the branch without watchonly.

If your DEX requires the QT wallet runs watchonly then perhaps a change needs to be made to the QT GUI to accommodate it.

barterDEX does create watchonly addresses and since any user could manually add a watchonly address with a single command, it seems a very good idea to update the QT wallet to at least denote which addresses are watch only.

Oh, I think BLK was missing gettxout rpc call last time we checked. Any chance of that being added (if it isnt already there)?

It is in Lore!
