Re: [ANN] 700,000 Cash Deposit Locations in Brazil, Russia, USA - BitInstant

I was initially excited at the prospect of buying bitcoins at walmart, but if an ID is required, my enthusiasm is dampened.

Do all these CVS/walmart/7-11 type services require ID?

Does bitinstant accept cash-in-the-mail or money orders?

I've made several purchases via CVS moneygram -> bitcoin to e-mail, and I've never had to show any I.D.  The person on the phone does ask for my information however (name, address, and phone number).

bitinstant is making it much easier to get coins now.  If you're still looking for a way, head over to their site.
+1 for the win!!11!
Now it is as easy as buying a beer.

Yeah it's really convenient, but it comes at a cost depending on which options you use. If you go through moneygram (CVS, etc..) they will also charge you a $3.95 fee, on top of the 3.99% Bitinstant takes, and the $1 that coinvault takes.  That $3.95 fee sucks.

Overall I've been paying about $10 in fees for each transaction. (Under $200)

Honestly the best way to learn is to do it with $20 and see how easy it is. Go through the process on BitInstant.com, and you'll see all the instructions you need.

I tried it.  I selected 'walmart' and 'to email' options, and tried depositing $20:

It says I'm going to get $19.20 for my $20.  A 4% fee.  Seems good:

It asks me for a 4 digit PIN, then tells me I'm going to receive $18.20 for my $20.  A 9% fee.  What happened there?

Oh, and it also tells me there will be a further 1% fee for the USD to BTC conversion.  So that's a nice round 10% fee in total.

Then when I get the voucher to print, it turns out I have to pay $23.95 (a convenience fee of $3.95 has been added):

That makes a total fee of exactly 25%.  I pay $23.95 to get $18.202 and then have to pay an extra 1% on top of that for the conversion.

I wonder if there's some way of presenting the true cost up front, and making the fees clearer.  It seems, for instance, that I end up getting more money if I deposit $99.99 than if I deposit $100, because the rate goes up 1% at $100.  But the only way of finding that out is by trial and error.  I'd like to see the fee structure spelled out clearly.

The rate is a flat 3.99% all around. When you do 'Bitcoin to email' coinapult charges an extra 1% for the conversion and trading fee which we clearly display in orange on the next page.

For some transfers, zipzap adds $3.95 fee on it. So yes, when doing $20 it may seem $5 is too hefty, but on $500 its alot less.

Any tips on avoiding the 3.95 fee by ZipZap? I read earlier that it seems to be because of MoneyGram... Which locations use moneygram?

I can verify that the CVS location uses Moneygram and charges the $3.95 fee

I just downloaded the payment slip from the site, but it also says: Click "Create Payment Slip" to have your slip downloaded to your computer for printing and sent to the email address provided above.  However, I didn't receive an e-mail and my e-mail address isn't listed on that page.  Should I be concerned?  I want to make sure the coins go to my email address.  (using cash -> coinapult)

When I click 'Return to merchant' I get a page that just displays 'not found'

I had this for wal-mart ->mtgox as well. I have the slip but never got an email.

Have you payed for it yet?  I plan on waiting til I hear back.

No, I'd have to drive 15 minutes to do it and I've got a busy day. I may not pay that particular slip at all, but I would like to do this soon, because F dwolla.

As long as the slip was created and you have it you are good to go.

The return to merchant and email slip is a simple glitch we are fixing now.

Your quotes are in the system, we've already processed a dozen or so orders today

Cool, thanks for the quick reply!

Good to hear you were able to resolve.  Was hoping to find a good alternative to MtGox.  Anyone else had any issues with them?

Waiting for a simple exchange 3 days now. Stuck in zendesk escalation hell lol

What payment method are you using?

New to bitcoins.   Dwolla not letting me deposit to exchanges for 30 days, so I stumbled on this site.

Looks like I have lots of reading to keep me busy.
