Hey guys, idk where to ask this question, and i dont want to make new thead just for it so:
Is this worth buying : http://www.gawminers.com/products/0-3-mh-s-5-chip-miner-by-gridseed-asic-dual-miner-scrypt-sha-256/

I can get couple of them for 60$ each, is it worth it , can i mine some script and sha256 coins and pay it of in like couple of months ?

Tnx for help. Im looking for cheep way to enter this mining game, and learn something about it.

Short answer: No

Slightly less short answer: The Gridseed 5-chips used to be worth it for pure Scrypt mining a few months ago, but not for dual mining SHA and Scrypt, and DEFINITELY not worth it now with all the Scrypt coins being innundated with much higher speed ASICs and much lower profitability per MHs.

Looks like the symbol/logo from Quake to me.
This is the Quake symbol...

also, what is your avatar supposed to be?

http://quake.wikia.com/wiki/Quad_Damage
"Appearing throughout the Quake series, Quad Damage is a power up that amplifies a weapon's damage by a factor of 4 (quadruples) for 30 seconds."
"The Quad Damage appears like a Quake logo-shaped rune. When the player activates it, their vision takes on a tint the same color as the powerup, and their face becomes wide-eyed and crazed-looking as long as the powerup is in effect."

Cheers,
QG

...and I'm assuming the username refers to the aftermath of yours foes after acquiring Quad-Damage... Cheers!

What are the struts holding up the Coolermasters and what fan controller are you using? Thanks

Believe it or not, those are just a bunch of plastic motherboard standoffs stacked and screwed together.  Great for adjustable height... not so great if you want something super stable.... but hey, They WorkTM
You can get a big bag of 100 for $12:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007Q84FR8/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B007Q84FR8&linkCode=as2&tag=jedislair-20&linkId=7OYZ5NGCMCWV74P7

I also used some rubber grommets just to make them more stable on the glass desk.  Grommets I've found are great for standoffs or as a make-shift gasket between Scythe fans and Antminer S1's (you can't place secondary fans flat on the S1 without some type of gasket to raise it a bit because the fan will hit raised screws).
A box of grommets of various sizes go for $7:

I mounted the CoolerMasters onto fan mounts meant for home theater equipment cabinet use:

The Fan Controller I use is the KingWin FourChannel FPX-001 which currently goes for $18:

I also use a molex to DC/AC adapter for the KingWin and fans which goes for $19:

Thanks for the detailed info. An inventive solution. What setting do you run the fans at to keep the USB units cool? Quiet?

Thanks, unfortunately they have a high pitched whine at full speed.  I usually keep them at about 3/4 power which has the best balance between noise and airflow.

Nice setup!
How many gh/s are you doing?

Very nice set up.  Do you mind going a little into cooling you are using with all that equipment?

The main mining room is in a detached large garage with 6 inch ducted intake of outside ambient air using a 530CFM inline fan:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005XNNYMU/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B005XNNYMU&linkCode=as2&tag=jedislair-20&linkId=NF4UYTVCZHA7P3CU

Hot air exhausts through a box fan raised on an old dog kennel near the room's door to the main garage space.

The desktop USB miners are cooled using white LED Coolermaster JetFlo 120 fans using a desktop fan controller.

The Drillbit boards also use JetFlo 120's.

There's also a vornado fan blowing on the ASICMiner BlockErupter 49port USB hub.

The GPU ScryptMiner just uses a large box fan.

I have various temp/humidity sensors setup in the Mining a Room and in the main garage space as well as security cameras so I can monitor temp/humidity and cameras from my ipad or phone. Doors are touchpad locked with remote unlock capability.

I have a mix of 120v/20a and 230v/30a power distributed in the garage which is on a separate electric meter than my house and has a separate commercial/agricultural electricity rate/bill (much much cheaper than the household rates).

I use HP Server PSUs with Gigampz Adapters and Klondike_bar's PCI-E cables powering most of the S1's (except for two powered by a Seasonic 1200w Platinum). You can find out more about the Gigampz here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=622783.0

If you look closely, those fans are facing with the airflow up and out. You can tell by seeing the crossbars that connect the fan motor to the housing which is usually on the outlet side.

So those are probably second fans with the factory default fans on the bottom.  They are situated the "right way".

Ya I was about to say they could have just flipped the fans

Fans are much less effective in suck position. You would have to make the tunnel over the heatsinks air tight.

They've gone from Suck to Blow?

Ludicrous Speed!!!

When do you expect to see ROI? Smiley

Will you see it at all ?
What is this "ROI" thing?

C

Return On Investment. The time it takes to earn back the money you have put in.
If your miner costs 1000 usd, and you earn 200 usd a month the ROI is 5 months.

Actually, you're describing "Break Even".

There's always a Return on Investment.  But it can either be Positive Return (Profit), Negative Return (Loss), or Break Even (make back what you invested).

That said, I think you also missed something else here... I believe Lightfoot was being sarcastic.  Wink

Yes we all know you want to comment on the setup, atleast remove the pics in the quote retards.

Totally agree.  Unless it's a quote from a couple/few+ pages back.

Unless it's the one with that half naked photoshopped girl in front of the miners... Because then that would be ok too...

4x 280x waiting on a 290x so I can add another.
http://i.imgur.com/Fr6Lz0c.jpg?1

What temperaturs do you have there? And what PSU???
coldest one: 67 and hottest one: 75.

Setup:
Proc: Intel Celeron G1620
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3
RAM: Corsair Dominator CMP4GX3M2C1600C7
PSU: Corsair Enthusiast TX850M
        Seasonic M12II 750W 80+ Bronze
GPU: 3x Dual-x 280x 1x Vapor-X and in a few days a Gigabyte 7970

I'll be running the Dual-X's from the 850 Corsair and the Vapor and GB from the 750W, which will also power the Mobo and risers.

I'm planning on building this in a few weeks:

It'll run 7 280x's on 3 PSU's cooled by 6 200mm fans. All arranged vertical to create a natural flow upward.

Would love to see that setup when done...

My Scrypt coin farm.

Rest of the album can be seen here: http://imgur.com/a/TnZlH#0

Don't MSI 7950's and Sapphires exhaust out the back (through the bracket vents)?  If so, aren't the box fans on the wrong side of the the rigs?  Essentially it looks like you're blowing back into the exhausts.

Unless those box fans are facing the other way and you're actually pulling the hot air away... hard to tell.

6 290's, XFX "black edition" cards  Grin

Curious about your power setup:

1. Do you have the two PSU's on different breakers/fuse circuits? Same phase? They can't be on the same 15 or 20amp circuit can they?

2. You said you have three GPUs per PSU but risers on only one?  Shouldn't you be matching the 3 GPUs with same 3 connected risers to each PSU? Ideally the risers and boards should each be on the same rail of each PSU or it could cause some issues for any board that would end up being connected to two different rails or worse two separate PSUs. Assuming you don't have it setup this way, are your pigtails on the risers getting warm?
