Re: Mt. Gox Announcement - Extension of Reduced Trade Fees
by

on 15/07/2011, 19:26:02 UTC
Dear Mt. Gox users,

We are pleased to announce that as a way to say we sincerely appreciate our customers who are “hanging in there” with us as we recover from the “hackcrash” (not to mention our growing pains), we will be extending the current discounted trade fees.

Those who are trading at 0% will continue at that rate until July 27. After the July 27 customers with the 0% trade fees will migrate to 0.3% trade fees which they will be able to take advantage of until August 9.

Those who were trading at 0.3% will continue at the same rate until August 9

We would also like to remind those users who are trading at 0% that they are eligible for a free YubiKey, a new One Time Password security feature at Mt.Gox that will ensure the security of your online transactions with us. Unfortunately, we will only be able to offer this for a short time so please make sure to order your key at http://Yubikey.mtgox.com (be sure to login) before July 27.

Sincerely,

-Mt. Gox Team.

YIPPEEEE!  That makes day-trading a lot more fun when there are no fees to suck up my teeny- tiny earnings.

I didn't lose coins, actually IIRC I spent 1ß and I got 1.25ß, much unlike Bitcoin Toss by Alex Beckenham, that did prove to be a disgusting scam.

So no anger here, I'm just eager to continue the experiment.
Same here.  I was just this close to breaking even.  I also have several pending (some of which would not commit to the 1BTC)  but I am interested in watching it continue just for kicks.  I don't really anticipate retiring on this plan or anything

I'm currently enjoying the 0% bracket.  Any idea how long we get that for?

One month.

Users whose trades were effectively cancelled during the the sell-off will be able to trade for free for 1 month following the reopening
Thanks... I guess I could have looked through my email.  I kinda fell into this category.  So I thought I would enjoy it while I can.

Excellent point.  I wouldn't mind a refund of the .6 btc I am down on the project.  However, I was simply defending the allegation that bitex was intentionally defrauding or "scamming" the general public.  Sure, he has an obligation to contact us and let us know his intent for working this out.  But that's entirely different from a scam... just sayin'

I always figure the .65% hit before determining the price whether sell or but.  put it in for each transaction, now we're talking a 1.3% difference minimum before you even come out on top.  So it really needs to be bouncing to get anywhere with it.

You should be aware that MtGox takes an additional .65% commission in btc on your bids. So that's really 2% for a return.
Also, quite a few of us have been granted a 0% commission for a transitory period (those who had buy orders canceled by the rolllback)
That probably partially explains the current price stability.

I'm currently enjoying the 0% bracket.  Any idea how long we get that for?

It's quite unfair to call something that got hacked a scam.  I think that word implies intent to mislead.  I don't really think that was the case here.  I think his site was attacked, then Gox was attacked, then everyone got really nervous about all things bitcoin, and this project is just not that important to him.

I appreciate the post.  I was wondering the same thing as my 16.00 limit order sat un-taken.  As to the dark pool, I thought those weren't supposed to be shown on the data as well as not influencing the market price.  Huh

I'm with you on the regular stocks buy and hold theory.  Too much can influence all the varieties of that world.  Bitcoin exchanges, however, offer a pretty low fee and sometimes wild fluctuations throughout the day.  I try a little of the limit order floating out there while I'm away for several hours, but I also like to jump in the middle of it with a little 5-8 BTC trade to keep it exciting.  I always figure the .65% hit before determining the price whether sell or but.  put it in for each transaction, now we're talking a 1.3% difference minimum before you even come out on top.  So it really needs to be bouncing to get anywhere with it.

all fun stuff to read.  keep in mind that "hi" and "low" are relative terms.  Something as erratic as BTC market has been can fool you time and again.

I didn't have an exact record, but it seems to be in the neighborhood.  It even showed a deposit that went through a couple days ago Wink

I was relieved to be able to log in with my new password set up several days ago.  BTC and USD balances look to be good.  It even shows a deposit I made while they were down.  All indications seem to be good.  Looking forward to the extreme radical behavior of the buyers and sellers.  the panic, the manic, and the stealthful tigers who will profit from them all... I wonder which one I will be?

When dealing with someone of unknown reputation, i would start with a small value, then if that goes well, double, rinse&repeat 'tll you bought/sold all you wanted
That's not realistic if you're putting up a limit sale or buy.  the system matches you up with whomever has a matching offer.  Then you just have 2 options:  take it or leave it.

If you like that kind of gamble, you can try this little game I stumbled across:

Re: Is Paypal really an option for trades
by

No.  Do not use paypal as an intermediary for BTC.  Ever.
Super risky.  People want to get in on the action of bitcoin, but not open any additional financial accounts.  They need to figure out how to get paid in bitcoin for mowing lawns or something.  Then the ball will really be rolling.

BTW, i found this little game for growing BTC.  Just started a couple days ago myself, so I don't know how well it works.  But it's worth a btc to find out.  http://fxnet.bitlex.org/?ref=1139

Go ahead and clicky :p

I chose you because Mister Mosquito was a sweet game.

Somebody choose me.  If I get a referral signup I'll post pictures of my cat.  And he's awesome.  He kills squirrels.  Won't somebody think of the squirrels?!?!?

I joined a little more than a week ago, and on their front page they had a link for non-referred enrollment.  I see they have suspended that because of  all the fraudulent behavior.  So, I guess I'm of no help...

But, if you have some BTC already and want to grow some more, I found a fun little program here:

it is exciting to watch the value soar up.  Then a little troublesome to watch it peter out a bit.  I too am waiting for a small chunk of $ to load in MtGox.   I feel like holding at this point, but who knows what a monday holds after the shocking news from bitcoinmarket.com hits.

I've also found a little fun with the randomizer:

I'm guessing that type of thing is why bitcoinmarket removed the paypal option.  This forum is chock full of lots of alternatives, just not that much for novice traders to deal with... Tongue

In the meantime, I ran across this fun little game to circulate some more BTC:

I got up this morning ready to sell a little BTC on bitcoinmarket to get some PayPal cash... and that option was gone!  I guess I'll need to move it over to MtGox and sell there.  So much for my maser plan.

BTW, If I sell for MBUSD I don't see and option to withdraw that.  So is there anything else to do with my BTC?
