Re: Opening a legacy wallet takes about 1 hour

it worked! I ran into 2 problems. The wallet.dat file was set as read only. I right clicked and unchecked that. But it still wouldn't work on Bitcoin Core 0.22

I downgraded tried many different version and wouldn't load. Gave me errors.

When i got to version 14.3 it loaded fine but i could not see the balance. I went into the console and exported the private key and address. Good thing I still had the password.

I wish i knew earlier how to export private keys. Now i know. i thought the wallet.dat file was all i needed.

The wallet address is very old. Starts with 1Cc

I tried on 2 computers. Intel 2.i5-3340M 2.7Ghz and i7 860 2,8Ghz

I know this wallet has some bitcoin in it. About 50USD

When i open this wallet. It opens but Bitcoin core shuts down with no error message. It's only that wallet.

Is it safe to post everything in the debug.log here? Here is the end of the log. I put a * in the last line because i didn;t know what it was

I downloaded the whole blockchain. Then unplugged the ethernet cord for security reasons.

New wallets load withing 10 minutes. It's just the old wallets that take about an hour.

I'm trying to look through old wallets to see if there is any Bitcoin in them. The wallets are 5 year old wallets.

They are the old style bitcoin addresses. It takes about 1 hour for it to open and show me the balance.

Why does it take so long to open. Is there another way I can accomplish this?

Re: Why are so few women buying into Bitcoin?
by
joe101
on 16/12/2019, 22:35:53 UTC
most women are not into investing, they usually rather play with makeup and usually depend on a man for money,

this is slowly changing as more women have started acting like men, joining the workforce and being more aggresive

most women are not very bright, this is decades of culture, not easy to change, will take years

also, most people get into bitcoin because they "need" to and not because someone pushes them into it

why would someone get into bitcoin when they have paypal and facebook, and little money in their bank.

GPU 4 x 80w = 320w
Riser 4 x 40w = 160w
Mobo, ssd, ram, cpu = 130w

Total 610w +20% = 732w, so 750w psu should work. Get platinum or titanium one.
That's not a good advice. First of all, even the worst platforms today don't consume more than 100W (most are at ~50 W idle consumption). No idea where you're getting the "130W" figure from. But that's just nitpicking, not really important. What is important though is that GTX 970 has 145W TDP. So 4 of those can easily draw 600W from the PSU. Of course one can (and should) undervolt the cards, but PSUs are always selected based on at least the stock TDP (cause cards crash sometimes and revert to the stock settings by themselves). And then, how are you going to connect a mining rig with 4 gtx 970s to a single 750W PSU? Most of 970s have 2x pci-e power connectors each. So, to power a rig like this you'll need at least four molex/6-pin connectors for the risers, and then eight(!) pci-e connectors for the cards. Have you ever seen a 750W PSU with so many connectors? I haven't. There are some 970 cards with single pci-e power connector each (Strix and EVGA Mini-ITX come to mind), but it's still too much of a stretch in terms of total power anyway.

can someone recommend me a psu, i dont even know how much watts i need 1200w?
A decent 1000W PSU will work fine. The good brands are Corsair, EVGA, Seasonic, CoolerMaster, BeQuiet. Look for popular Gold/Platinum units.

thanks!

if it has 6 vga inputs, does that mean i can have 6 video cards?

when i checked newegg this one was featured and looks like the best
https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438013

i wont ever go past 4 video cards,  so 1300w too much right? waste of money?

Re: I spent all my saving on bitcoin, now i am broke
by
joe101
on 19/12/2017, 04:49:04 UTC
Hello everybody!

I completely forgot about this thread. I just noticed it now.  it's going to be almost 2 years since i wrote this thread.

Yes my 5 bitcoins(now 6 bitcoins) are still buried underground. That week after i wrote this thread, I ended up digging it back up and along with the usb's so i could throw in some cd-rw's with the wallet.dat's burned on them. Since everyone made me paranoid that the usbs would loose power. But cds last forever. That was the last time i saw my bitcoins.

A lot has happened and changed with my life since them. i've changed living arrangements and other personal things.

But for the past 2 years, i can't stop thinking about bitcoin and every other digital currency.

Luckily for me, the past 2 years, i started purchasing all types of other crypto coins with the little extra money thats left over every month.  i even cut my spending habit even more so i could buy other coins like ltc and eth and many others

it's almost 2018 now, and with my bitcoin,  bitcoin cash, bitcoin gold, and many of my other coins that ive amassed in the past 2 years

i could easily afford to purchase in cash, a house, car and have a little extra spending money for myself

that's if.. i cash out.  It's come to a time when i am facing with one of the biggest problems. Do i cash out or not? Originally i told myself i would wait 20 years.
Ive never had this much money in my life and it's been making me anxious and scared of losing it all. I'm thinking i will cash out all my crytpo coins and keep my bitcoins buried.

I am getting scared with all the bitcoin cash, and bitcoin bubble talk. There is a lot of fear going around and it's got into my head. I don't understand the technicals behind bitcoin or bitcoin cash. Either way whichever one wins. The winner bitcoin is still buried underneath my bird fountain.  I am planning on installing a security camera so i can keep an eye on my bitcoin bird fountain whenever i am not around, as i am often away from my home due to work conditions. The higher bitcoin becomes to more nervous i feel everyday about having that much money underground.

looking back... that day changed my life, not because of money, but because of knowledge

Re: If society didn't have make-up, what would they consider beautiful?
by
joe101
on 22/07/2017, 16:44:57 UTC
are you serious?

natural beauty would be considered beautiful,

then women would actually be normal and not insecure,

makeup is used by mainstream and huge corporations(disney) to make women insecure and sexualize them

they have been brainwashed since they were young, that men only like women who wear makeup and if you don't wear makeup, you are not beautiful

it has worked for decades, and you can see women pack on makeup and rarely do you see women without makeup

the billion dollar makeup industry is a cancer to society

Re: The fees are crazy, 420 satoshis/byte, WHY?
by

Why are there so many transactions? is it because bitcoin is getting more popular?

I sent 100 bucks and the fee was $2.70, i thought it was too high so i changed it to 0.50cents, and now its been 2 days and my transaction is unconfirmed,

it seems it wont go thorough,

im thinking its time to cash out half my bitcoins, and take home some profit in case it crashes

I heard people get paid about 7 bucks per 1000 views,

I also heard they get paid a lot less now because of adblock

I've been using adblock for a couple years, and have never seen seen an ad for a couple years on youtube

i really don't care if people don't make money because im using ad block,

i do though, disable adblock on websites i like, but never yotube, mainly because theres no option to disable it for certain youtube channel,

plus i hate ads,

when youtube first started that, that was when it was easy to bring in cash, now its getting harder and harder,

i read also, since april that you need at least 10,000 views in order to monetize your videos

i thought about making videos but im not sure of what, and i definitely don't want to do "pranks" those people are idiots

i would much rather do teaching videos, or useful videos,

but i have nothing good to teach, its makes me sad
