IOTA OR XRB?
by

I've got some of both but I still want to know you're thoughts.

Do you think these are a good investment atm? And which of the two are you more keen on?

I feel like Raiblocks might explode sometime soon. I'm sort of getting the same impression that I got with Ethereum late last year, but I still made the mistake of selling my ETH and not trusting my gut. Of course, even though I want to trust my gut, my gut isn't magical and I don't have absolute confidence.

Re: Dumbest thing you did in Crypto as a noob

Sold 14ETH for 80ish pounds thinking I was a genius and there was no way it could go higher. 14ETH atm is £6.8k and climbing.
Lesson learned: The crypto sphere has enormous scope for growth; don't underestimate its potential.

Panicked when Ark first started dropping and sold it all, then bought it all back shortly after when it started rising again. 2k Ark gone for no reason Smiley As of now, that 2k is worth £6.5k.
Lesson learned: Just because a coin is going down doesn't mean it's bad.

Spent the £600 pounds I was going to use to buy Dash on a plane ticket. Wasn't really my fault as this was a family obligation but I could have put my foot down. When I saw it skyrocketting I didn't buy back in because I was salty. As of now, that decision has "cost" me £66,500.
Lesson learned: Don't get salty just because you missed an opportunity to buy in early. This helped me recently. I meant to buy Iota one day but ended up getting delayed, and it went up by 40% overnight. I was feeling bitter, but I still bought in. Since then what I put in has almost tripled.

There was also PivX... It sounded promising to me and I was going to buy a few hundred pounds' worth one night, but I'd read an article earlier saying to not buy coins on impulse when you're tried. I thought it made sense and decided to ignore PivX. Shortly after, the anon-coin frenzy kicked in and PivX exploded. It went up by (IIRC) x100. As of now it's gone up by over 200x. I'm not even going to calculate how much that would be.
Lesson Learned: None. Ouch.

Dammit, where is he posting now? I was wondering why he wasn't on the forums. I didn't know he got banned. I've been following his comments and they're usually spot on. Not too sure about what he did because I tend to just skim drama but I actually thought he was gone because he was working on his crypto...

100$ coins?
by

What coins, if any, do you reckon are most likely to hit 100$ in the future?

IMO it's the platform coins like WAVES, STRAT, etc. that could potentially take the same route as ETH. Other than that I'm not sure... there are some other coins I've heard good things about, but going on a gut feeling vs seeing how similar coins have done is like horse racing. Not that speculating on alts isn't like horseracing Grin but I hope you see what I mean.

So, opinions?

Sold all 14 of my ETH when it was worth $8 so (as of right this second) $1813 - $112 = missed out on $1701.

Fortunately I wasn't stingy when buying GameCredits and Iconomi  Grin

All the Decred you can afford.
Really? How high do you reckon Decred can go? And do you think Ark and Iconomi are good investments?

NXS because it's so underrated right now for all the features it offers. And because they are soon to sign a LoI to launch their blockchain in cube sats in space.

yes I have just loaded up on Nexus. forecast is $1 near term and $5 2017-2018. HODL!

Sigh, I crapped myself when the price plunged before and sold 2.8k Nexus. Seems to be doing pretty well atm. What makes it suck more is that I had a lot of faith in it at the time but it just wasn't going up after weeks. I started thinking that "hey, just because something's a good idea doesn't mean people will adopt it... sometimes it's just bad luck". Fast forward to now  Cry On the upside I've made money overall so I can't really complain. Anyway I'm thinking of buying more NXS... gonna have to decide between this and some other coins I'm eyeing.

Re: How good is Decred?
by
johne
on 18/03/2017, 04:04:45 UTC
I don't know but I'm holding some jic.

There were a few coins I kept hearing people praise a few weeks back and Decred was one of them. I didn't know why it was meant to be good. When I looked at its price / market cap it seemed to not be doing too well, but some of the coins these people mentioned suddenly started rising, so I figured there had to be something to what they were saying. As soon as Decred started going up after the BTC ETF I decided to grab some too (and did it just in time). There were also some other highly praised coins I started paying attention to... Lisk, Komodo, GameCredits, etc. I don't completely understand the tech behind any of them (just the general idea), but I decided I'd take some risks. For example, I bought a load of Komodo when its price plunged because it sounded good to me. Now that the issue that caused the plunge has been sorted out I'm glad I did. It's rising (because of its team / tech) and I've made some money already.

But I digress. My point is that I don't have a clue, I'm just taking a serious look at any alt people are passionate about which doesn't look like a shitcoin / which doesn't stink of bagholder desperation. Decred is one of these coins, but I really have no idea how high it can go. At the same time, I feel like the worth of the top 50 alts will just continue to rise as crypto grows bigger. Nobody knew alts would be worth this much (versus a miniscule fraction of a penny/dollar) a few years back when crypto was still crawling. I get the feeling that anything with the potential to survive is going to give some nice returns in another two~five years... so why the heck not? Grin

Anyway we'll see.

Re: Are altcoins in a bubble?
by
johne
on 16/03/2017, 04:38:34 UTC
Yep, I think they're in a bubble, but they're still rising in actual value (overall).

Many are though, and the recent upshot of Dash etc could well be a bubble, but it could be awareness. I dont know which it is.

That's the bit that sucks... by the time you know whether it's legit and feel like you should go all-in, it's usually too late. I was going to buy about £500 worth of Dash at $12 but decided to sit things out. The price started rising, but I kept sitting things out because it looked too steep to me... it HAD to drop. But it didn't. And just kept going. Now it's at $90+ dollars and I've still got mixed feelings because I don't want to be the greater fool. But I do understand that it could potentially keep going up. I've decided to diversify smaller (in market cap) but promising alts for now and not rush into things so I don't get burned (I'll likely see greater % rises elsewhere, too, now that the Dash train has left... but I'll buy if the bubble pops because we've now seen where it can go).

But I digress... I agree that just because something rockets up doesn't necessarily mean it's coming down. It TENDS to, but like AusKipper said, there are examples like Facebook. Dash has also been very good with their advertising... much moreso than Bitcoin (which has only really received indirect advertising through the news, and most people don't have a clue how it works. Dash's advertising actually explains everything in a way that doesn't chase people away).
