Next I will move on to porting bitcoinjs to Auroracoin.

Have you talked to nite96 (or was it nite69?). Afaik he (they?) ported bitcoinj already for use in the schildbach android AUR wallet, no?

EDIT: this maybe: https://github.com/Nite69/bitcoinj-scrypt.git

Yes, me and nite69 have been in constant communication regarding development on bitcoinj for the android wallet  Wink.
Bitcoinj is the java implementation and bitcoinjs is javascript (for webwallets and such).

Re: [ANN][AUR] Auroracoin - a cryptocurrency for Iceland

I am currently working full-time this summer developing for Auroracoin and actively building a community here in Iceland.

I apologies for not providing any updates from me or others here in Iceland. To be honest, I was really worn out after the sudden crazy media attention here in Iceland, my trip to CFR in New York, and all while learning the ins and outs of the protocol for development. I was also a little afraid of keeping up the hype along with the inflated price from speculators and didn't want to bring any false hope if I were to fail in my mission.

That being said, things are going along quite well right now. I have gathered a good group of highly interested individuals and we are in the last phase of starting a real organization to represent the blockchain technology here in Iceland as well as supporting Auroracoin officially. Tomorrow, a public preparation meeting will be held and then we are good to go.
KBS, "South Korea’s leading public broadcaster, the largest television network, and the most influential media organization in the
country" is also arriving tomorrow. They will attend the meeting and interview people for their documentary on Auroracoin.

Baldur told me some time ago that he (the pseudonym Baldur) would like to gradually step away from the project so he wont be seen as the leader, and suggested that I could maybe start a foundation for Auroracoin. After some thought, I decided to go for an umbrella organization for the technology instead of just an Auroracoin foundation as I think it will unite a lot of interested individuals here in Iceland to support cryptocurrencies in general.

Although, Auroracoin support will need to be a major focus. Due to capital controls, no one is able to wire money out of the country e.g. to Bitstamp. So the average person here in Iceland is actually not able to buy Bitcoins or any other cryptocurrency for that mater in large quantities, except Auroracoin. With just a few clicks, the average person can get a relatively large share of Auroracoin, so it is obvious that the organization should do everything to keep Auroracoin up and running and act as a foundation as well.

Regarding development; I have completed updating the Auroracoin source to the latest Bitcoin 0.9, and just have to finish getting every single test to pass. Next I will move on to porting bitcoinjs to Auroracoin. I also want to port libbitcoin and setup an obelisk server so we can have "darkwallet" as the go-to wallet for the average person.

Re: why isn't Auroracoin price increasing?

In 11 days the total supply of coins has gone from 131,089.5 to 1,098,608.8 ; that is more than an eightfold increase, and most of which to people who have never even heard about crypto currencies. I would say the price has been holding up extremely well.

Lets do a little math to find out exactly how auroracoin has been doing since the airdop on the 25th of March.

Price 25th of March : $13.047
Total supply 25th of March.: 131,089.5 AUR
Real marketcap 25th of March: 13.047*131089.5 = $1,710,324.7

Current Price: $2.03
Current Total supply: 1,098,608.8 AUR
Current real marketcap: $2,230,175.8

The real marketcap has gone up by $519,851 since the airdrop, and if we count in the 22.12% bitcoin pricedrop over those 11 days we could say that the total increase in real marketcap is $2,723,490 - $1,710,324 = $1,013,166. that is an 60% increase.

How can anyone take his postings seriously?

He already announced twice that the blockchain is forked and it wasn't.
He then announced 3 or 4 blocks, where "Aurora is dead" or "Game over".

Even if he has some crypto coin skills and understanding, his history is full of fail and his behavior is really ill. He should make a therapy against his conduct disorders.

You are doing so excellent at proving just how much you haven't understood a thing that was posted or either you're a bag holder trying desperately to convince yourself it's all ok.

I made it clear, I did not fork the chain at 5400, but someone did. Multiple people who have the technical ability to positively tell also posted that they saw it.

And to all you bag holders who keep regurgitating "Baldur has proven himself".....please show me how?

Simply because the block chain is full of 31.8 AUR transfers?

You have no way of knowing who those wallets belong to and in the absence of a trusted third party handing out the "Air Drop" there will never be a way to know that Baldur did the right thing.

The last time someone kept solitary control of a premine this large was Realsolid with 12 Million Solidcoins in 2011.

Funny thing, all his minions said the exact same thing, till weeks later when it was proven he didn't exactly do the right thing.

As anonymous as Baldur is and as well as this Aurorascam has worked, for all we know, Baldur is Realsolid.

If you will simply disable your "inner bagholder" things might be a little clearer.

~BCX~

I understand what you are saying, and fully acknowledge the threat of Baldur doing this on his own. Although I do not have any bag of aur to hold (other than my 31.8 from the airdrop). I have exchanged over 80 emails with Baldur since 2 months ago and after a some consideration decided that the project can be worth my time and dignity as I stepped forward to speak for auroracoin and crypto in the Icelandic media.

Maybe it was all for nothing and I will be publicly shamed as the man who spoke for auroracoin, even though I tried to warn everyone of the dangers of the premine. Maybe I will even get prosecuted as an accomplice ( I have already received warnings because distributing the coins might be deemed illegal here in Iceland). But maybe my "naive" judgement was right and he is actually going to keep distributing the coins in a fair way. We will see what happens if the coin survives.

I don't like defending Baldur and trying to find proof he is doing the right thing, but might the jump in number of nodes in the network indicate people getting their aur http://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/nodes-aur.html even though many use the recommended paper wallet option.

I think it's sad so many people support what BCX is doing. I hate premined scam coins just as much as the next guy, but BCX has prematurely decided that the 50% can not possibly go to the Icelandic population and a person holding all that money will surely cash it out himself.

There is still no evidence that Baldur is cashing out and we should give him and the project a chance until anything suspicious happens. In the meantime I will continue warning everyone in the media here in Iceland of the dangers of one man keeping such a large portion of the currency and how everything could fail because of a man like BCX.

A possible exploit is something that is good to talk about and test. I know about the security implication of retargeting on every block, but it was necessary for the coins survival so it needed to be deployed. A tweak was later implemented to try to mitigate a possible attack as we got worried about time-warps.

No one is able to buy Bitcoins because of capital controls here in Iceland and now we finally have a chance to participate.
Over 7.1% of the population have claimed their share of Auroracoin. Almost everyone is talking about crypto currencies and learning about this new technology. The media has been reporting about Auroracoin every single day and a large market has merged. Even if everything falls tomorrow the project is a huge success in introducing a country under capital-controlls to the powers of crypto currencies.

the same thing has been said about every single other premined coin clone starter EVER.. you think you just made up that retort ? lol
puuuuhleeze spare me lol

reality check here is the facts.. history has PROVEN these guys can and will dump allover us /the end.

Well, I guess I will keep being ignorant and hope he has spent all this time constructing the airdrop and making it work for the benefit of Iceland, not just himself. Have other pre mined coins had a mission like this, make it work and then fail?

Re: Why Auroracoin may be the most exciting altcoin of 2014

Iclander here.

When I read about Bitcoin in 2011 I was very excited to try this new technology and anxious to go buy some Bitcoins right away.
I optimistically registered an account at mtgox and looked at every possible way to get my ISK to the exchange. After a while I gave up, the reason being that it was, and still is, illegal to transfer any amount of money from the country without a probable cause or a plane ticket.
So in a sense buying Bitcoins is illegal in Iceland do to capital controls.

When Auroracoin popped up, at first I thought to myself, hah, an "Icelandic" coin!.. how unexacting. But when I read about the airdrop I soon realised it actually could be the start of something revolutionary.

It will be very interesting to see how this experiment plays out. I hope, at the very least, people and media here in Iceland start talking about the use of crypto currencies, not just the price.

I am currently writing an article about crypto currencies in Icelandic to explain this new technology in simple terms and highlight the potential benefits of cryptocurrencies for the economy.

Regarding the development of Auroracoin, I will soon post a bounty thread on http://forum.auroracoin.org/ with a list of potential projects for Auroracoin. We need get some community momentum going and start developing and advertising.

If the dev doesn't follow the rules he set out to do I could hard fork it and invalidate the premined coins. Is everyone ok with that?

Surely that would destroy the coin's whole declared purpose and uniqueness.

I am confident that Baldur will soon publish every little detail on how the aridrop will be conducted.
If the airdrop fails or he does not deliver, the idea is extremely good and certainly possible to perform here in Iceland on a new fork.
I looked in to various ways on how to authenticate for the airdrop and the process should be a fairly straight forward to implement.

Looking forward to the details from Baldur.
