Re: How Much Should You Invest in Bitcoin?

If we took a chance on bitcoin early on, just a few years ago, Our investment could have paid off in a big way.If we purchased $1,000 worth of bitcoin back then at a price of $600 per, We would have a little over 1.6 bitcoins. If we purchased $1,000 worth of bitcoin at a price of $1,000 per, we would have one bitcoin.

"Bitcoin has no underlying rate of return," the Vanguard founder said. "We know bonds have an interest coupon, stocks have earnings and dividends, [and] gold has nothing. There is nothing to support bitcoin," he said, "except the hope that We will sell it to someone for more than you paid for it."

I've been using BTC for a long time. I have been using it at exchanges on the internet or to trade altcoins and to order goods online, but I've never exchanged BTC with anyone in front of me. At a market or between friends, or family. Roll Eyes

As according to my point of view of saying BTC is number1 means that the Bitcoin is at the top in the cryptocurrencies market due to their stability to maintain their price and also increases Wink

Re: Alternative Block Chains : be safe!
by

I haven't seen anybody post about what would be my biggest worry if I were trying out alternative block chains. I realize this may be perceived as "Gavin is FUD'ding anything that isn't bitcoin!"  (FUD == Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt)  But I think some of you might be forgetting some basic computer security fundamentals in the excitement to be early adopters.

When I first heard about bitcoin, my questions were:

1) Can it possibly work (do the ideas for how it works make sense)?
2) Is it a scam?
3) If it is not a scam, could it open my computer up to viruses/trojans if I run it?

I answered those questions by:

1) Reading and understanding Satoshi's whitepaper.  Then thinking about it for a day or two and reading it again.
2) Finding out everything I could about the project.  I read every forum thread here (there were probably under a hundred threads back then) and read Satoshi's initial postings on the crypto mailing list.
3) Downloaded and skimmed the source code to see if it looked vulnerable to buffer overflow or other remotely exploitable attacks.

If I were going to experiment with an alternative block-chain, I'd go through the same process again. But I'm an old conservative fuddy-duddy.

If you want to take a risk on a brand-new alternative block-chain, I'd strongly suggest that you:

1) Run the software in a virtual machine or on a machine that doesn't contain anything valuable.
2) Don't invest more money or time than you can afford to lose.
3) Use a different passphrase at every exchange site.

Re: Can blockchain improve our environment?

The blockchain is a platform or a technology which helps to make a decentralised transactions between the parties. It is owned by no one, with a copy of it being stored on many personal computers around the world. Anyone can use it and help run the network. This often removes the need for middlemen and allows users to interact in a peer to peer way. It can also reduce transaction costs and increase efficiency. Because it is distributed, this kind of network is difficult to take down or corrupt.

1. Supply Chain Management
Most people want to buy products that are ethically made, but that kind of information is often unavailable and difficult to verify. A product goes through many hands before it reaches the store. It’s very easy for companies to lie about how their products are made, what materials and chemicals they use, where they dump their garbage, or how fairly they treat their employees.

2. Recycling
With the current recycling programs, people often don’t have good incentives to participate. The responsibility for running recycling programs often falls on each separate city, which results in many places not having recycling programs at all. It’s also difficult to track and compare the impact of these programs.

3. Energy
Traditional power grids are centralized, which can create inefficiencies in energy distribution, like having unused surplus. And in parts of the world affected by natural disasters or poverty, power outages can leave people without access to electricity.

4. Environmental Treaties
In can be difficult to track the real impact of environmental treaties, and sometimes there isn’t an incentive for governments or corporations to keep their promises. Fraud and manipulation of data are also problems in this area.
