Is there a link that allows me to see the ETH airdrop processed transactions?  I filled out the form about two weeks ago but never saw any transfers into my account.  Perhaps I didn't sign it right.  Not sure if that gets logged anywhere?

Just throwing this out here for discussion purposes...

With the cryptocurrency massacre happening now for just about every coin out there, should the semux team consider delaying the mainnet launch until things cool down?

Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin, etc. all are getting hammered today and yesterday.  Seems like bad timing to introduce a new coin.

Thoughts?

after, or before, the mainnet you guys really have to work on official website and especially on documentation (plus team, roadmap)
This is a work in progress, please be patient with us.

I'm not the OP, but I would echo the comments around documentation.  Specifically the delegate/validator/FAQ wiki.  It goes into just enough detail to get you asking a lot more questions, but then doesn't dive deep into those other questions, such as the basic one of "Why would/should I vote for someone, and what is the end result."

I've been able to figure it out by reading replies by friendly people in this forum, but lots of people have been asking that all validators are paying their voters when I think there are now only two pools that are doing it.

But the software is very nice!  Keep it up.  I'm looking forward to the mainnet launch.

As a question for how pools 'should' run.  I have 2 validators.  Right now each pay out separately, so votes for one are 1/44k share and other is 1/40k share.
I am playing around with allow configuration to treat them just as one big pool.  So everyone gets 1/84k share of  2x the reward.

At the moment, it doesn't matter, but if i were to start say 'pool3' (I'm not), I want to encourage votes for it, so it would make sense to allow those voters to still receive a share, even though its not forging yet.

Downside is, if I open up a new pool, those who already have votes on a 'full' one have no incentive to balance their votes to the lower one.  And balancing votes is a good thing.

Thoughts?  Pros and cons to each.. just not sure what makes most sense.

Good question about whether to treat them as two separate pools or a combined pool.  I think I'd tend to lean towards the combined pool--as long as you don't require users to shuffle around votes between often.  That way, say if you did start pool #3, all the new people could join into #3, but people that already voted on #1 or #2 wouldn't need to burn transaction fees to rebalance their votes across all three.

Bug in validator code caused semuxpool_com2 to pay out 2 times (until it ran out of SEM).

Oops.  Maybe you should have named it semuxpool_com2x since it pays out twice.  :-)

Out of curiosity, in the blocks forged by you so far, how much transaction fees have you earned over the general block reward?

I would love to see a clearer description of how the pools work once we're on mainnet.  For now, it seems like pools should keep splitting delegates so that they always are in top 100, but with as few votes as possible, such as to maximize their number of eligible delegates.  It's a bit of a race to the bottom.

Why not scale delegate rewards logarithmically with votes?  That way higher-vote delegates get some benefit and incentive, but not perfectly scaling so they don't become overly powerful.

Interesting idea to do it logarithmically.  I've be tempted to leave it alone though and just see what happens.

I think the system would be more fair though if the payouts to voters were handled automatically by the semux code itself versus relying on validators to write their own external code to split the rewards.  Also, in that case, you wouldn't have to worry about some validators keeping all the money for themselves and not sharing it with voters (which most seem to do now except for at least two pools of validators).  I suppose though the block size might get really, really big and full with reward splitting if too many voters were participating.  If that happened every 30 seconds, it might just get too large.

If the block reward were split automatically by the semux code itself, it could do things like not charging a transaction fee for transactions related specifically to the payouts to voters.

If the block size would be too large paying every 30 seconds, the semux code could still manage payouts and do a once-a-day payout, but it would have to keep track of data of all the data being accumulated throughout the day in the database.  The code would be trickier, but have much smaller overall block usage.

This is cool project. Wallet needs complete uplift, though.

Out of curiosity, why do you say that?  I thought the wallet UI looked really nice.  Very simple.  Easy to find things.  Not overcrowded.  Just enough to tell you what you need.

I was shooting for ~35k votes.
At that rate, each SEM you vote gets you 1/35,000 each block forged
semux.infos pools have about 70k each, so each vote gets you 1/70,000 each block forged,
so 2x.

It's not magical or the other pool being dishonest. Just that they have more votes than is optimal.

However, we have about 50k votes now (kinda exploded), so you get 1/50k per vote compared to 1/70k, so still higher, but not double.

And it pays out every hour, if your earnings for that hour are above 0.2 SEM, else it waits til you have enough.
I may change this to once per day to lower fees, if folks would prefer.

i may open another pool here shortly if there continues to be demand.  If we get to 70k votes
having 2 delegates with 35k each is preferrable.

That's cool.  I was thinking of setting up a pool myself since I already burned the SEM on a delegate, but I haven't had a chance yet to writeup the software to split up the rewards and don't want people voting for me until I've had a chance to write the code and test it.

In the mean time, it's fun to do what-if scenarios.

Please let me know if my math is correct on this:

With 30 second blocks, and 1440 minutes in a day, there should be 2880 blocks minted per day in the network.  With 64 validators in testnet, that means each validator gets roughly 45 SEM (assuming testnet 1 SEM block reward).

Your semuxpool_com has about 62,224 votes now.  The semux.info pool has about 347,239 votes (including 1400 of mine) split across five validators.  So semuxpool_com generates 45 SEM a day and semux.info 225 SEM a day.

My 1400 votes on semux.info should pull in about 0.907 SEM/day (but they only payout weekly) based on (1400/347239)*225.  Or 6.35 SEM/week.

If I were to move my 1400 votes to semuxpool_com, assuming all else stayed equal, I should pull in (1400/(1400+62224))*45 = 0.990 SEM/day or 6.93 SEM/week.

However, to move my votes, because the semux.info pool is split across five validators, it would cost me 0.05*5 + 0.05 in transactions fees, or 0.30 SEM.  So, I'd make 0.08 SEM more per day on your pool, but it would take 4 days of earnings to pay for the transaction fees in changing my vote.  I guess I should leave my votes where they are until mainnet starts.

Is any part of my analysis faulty?

Oh... Do validators also get awarded transaction fees (like Bitcoin miners) or only a block reward?  That might change the calculus a little, but I think most semux blocks have been empty, so I assume there are very little transaction fees being spent now.

It's in your best interest to vote for the pool with the lowest votes that still qualify for validator status (assuming pool fees are equal)

Thanks for the advice.

So there is an interesting tension in trying to figure out which pool to assign your votes in order to maximize your reward.  You want to target the pool that has the smallest number of votes to qualify as a validator but not so small that they risk getting kicked off the validator list.

For testnet, my understanding is we are limited to 64 validators.  For mainnet, I believe it will increase to 100 validators.  The list of validators is based on the ones that have the top votes.

But how does a validator get selected for the block reward?

Is it a simple round robin approach, so for testnet, each validator has 1/64'th chance of being selected?  Or is it weighted so that the validators with the most votes always get the reward?  Suppose there are 1 million votes cast.  The top validator has 100000 votes and validator #64 has just 1 vote.  (I'm making numbers up for simplicity.)  Does validator 64 have a 1/64 chance of getting the block reward or only a 1/1000000 chance?

I understand with the launch of the mainnet, those of us who spent 1000 SEM to be a delegate will get that amount "refunded".  Will we get the keep the delegate status in mainnet, or need to spend our refunded 1000 SEM again to get it back?

Are votes only done in whole numbers?  (i.e., can there be a 0.05 vote?)

(I apologize for the basic questions.  The wikis and FAQs seem to gloss over a lot of this--and it's possible I may have missed the section covering it too.)

semux.info's pool is available, but is very full.
semuxpool_com is available.  It does pay out for votes, but is not validator yet.

I joined this pool two days ago.  You're right, it's pretty full.  My first payout was only 0.16 SEM (despite putting 1400 votes total across the five validators in the pool).

Well, I went ahead and joined the Signature Campaign.  The UI is simple, but clean.  The concepts are interesting.  Java is the programming language in which I'm most experienced.  I got all my coins so far through the BTC Airdrop.  I'm looking forward to digging into this deeper.

I'm new to semux.  I only heard about it recently when looking over posts about upcoming BTC airdrops.  I've reviewed posts made by the semux Bitcointalk user, skimmed over the various FAQs and other websites, but I still have a few questions about the project.

It seems like instead of "mining", there is a "forging" process that allows by special nodes called Validators.  To be a Validator, it seems just must first register as a Delegate (burning 1000 SEM) and then get enough "votes" from other nodes (or your own I assume) to rank amongst the top 64 vote getters.  For each SEM you own, you can cast a vote.  When you vote, that SEM becomes "locked" and cannot be spent unless you go back and "unvote" for that delegate.

Does a node (wallet) get anything in return for their votes?  Do they get part of the 1 SEM (soon to be 3 SEM) block rewards from the Validators?  Or do the block rewards go solely to the Validator who forged it?

If you don't get anything in return for your vote, I'm not understanding the point.  It would seem the Delegates would most likely just vote for themselves (if having enough SEM) to stay being a Validator.

Sorry for the probably basic question, but I'm just trying to learn more about the system.  Thanks.

It is a good question.  The answer is just the validator gets the block reward (currently 1 SEM son 3 SEM), but it is an interesting idea that the voters get part of it.  There are forging pools that do this (somehow).  I could be wrong so wait for dev to final answer.

It could be a good idea to consider adding such a feature directly to Semux wallet. Maybe an optional validator setting to share block reward proportionally with the voting accounts.

I agree that would be a very nice feature.  By having it built into the system, you wouldn't have to worry whether the pool you are looking at can be trusted to pay you fairly.

Here is a pool I found.

https://semux.info/pool

Not sure if you get paid for voting if you don’t register, waiting for an answer to that one myself.

Thanks for the information about the pool.  I just got my BTC airdrop and went ahead and split my SEMs up amongst the five validators in the pool.  Though I did notice of their validators says that it has been offline for a week ("madrid").  I wonder if I should unvote those.

I also went ahead and registered to be a delegate as well.  I have nowhere near enough to become a validator, but it should be a fun test to see if anyone actually votes for my delegate out of the blue.  (I don't know if it is against the rules or not to mention my delegate's name, so I'll leave that out just in case.)

Will the UI let you get to a point where you can actually lock your entire SEM balance?  I'm wondering if there are safeguards in the software to prevent you from doing it.  If you lock your entire balance, you would never be able to pay the transaction fee to "unvote" and you would be stuck until you actually acquire more SEM.

Yes, I've currently doing this (not with a Dryer power outlet, but with an electric Range/Stove outlet).

Basically, you need two things:

Thing #1: Tripp-Lite PDU1230, see http://www.tripplite.com/pdu-power-distribution-unit-30a-1u-c19-c13-outlets-nema-l6-30p-plug-208v-240v-single-phase~PDU1230/ -- you should be able to search for it on Amazon and buy it from various vendors.  Costs range from US$150 to US$210.

Thing #2: Adapter to plug into your dryer outlet that converts it into a NEMA L6-30 plug that the Tripp-Lite PDU1230 uses.  I haven't found many places that offer adapters like this.  I ended up ordering from a website that specializes in adapters for EV car (electronic car) owners.  Look at the evseupgade.com website's adapters page: http://evseupgrade.com/?main_page=index&cPath=7 -- you'll need to order the specific type of adapter that matches your Dryer outlet.

I have three 240V plugs in my house--Dryer, Range, and EV Car Charging outlet--and all three are totally different and none match the L6-30 needed by the Tripp-Lite PDU1230.  Ugh.

It's possible you can find some other combination of things, but I'm just reporting what has worked fine for me.  I'm currently a few KNC Neptune cubes from the Tripp-Lite.  In the past, I've powered a pair of SP10's and a pair of SP30's off of it (but they were too loud and eventually moved those to a data center).

BTCS Gains Traction in its Transaction Verification Business
[...]
The Company’s pending merger with Spondoolies-Tech is expected to further accelerate growth of BTCS’ transaction verification services. The addition of Spondoolies’ third-generation Application Specific Integrated Circuit (“ASIC”) servers, which are anticipated to provide a 3x-5x efficiency improvement, should significantly increase the Company’s hashing power and improve operating margins. The implementation of third-generation servers at the Company’s North Carolina facility is expected to yield a hash rate of between 13,000 and 29,000 Th/s (trillion calculations per second). BTCS averaged a hash rate of 891 TH/s during the first half of 2015.
[...]

Interesting that in that press release, unless I'm just not seeing it, the words "Bitcoin" and "Mining" don't appear anywhere in it.  Instead they use "Transaction Verification Services" and "Hashing" as the only words that describe what they are doing.

Who's turning on new miners?

KnCMiner has begun shipping the "Bonus Miners" to all those that ordered Neptune's as part of the original "Customer Appreication" batch.  (The Customer Appreciation batch was the first batch of Neptunes that was only made available to people who had previously purchased Juputer and other previous-generation KnC machines.)

I have no idea how many of these Bonus Neptunes are going out.  Could be hundreds or thousands (some people converted their Bonus Neptune order to a Bonus Titan order--Titan isn't a SHA-256 miner.)  Each one can hash at around 3.3 TH.

I have not personally received any shipping notification of mine yet, but there are a few posts on the KnC forums that have received their UPS shipping confirmations and at least one person that has already received the Bonus Neptune.  It seems some people aren't even bothering to take them out of the box, though.  So if they aren't mining, you may see a bunch of Neptunes pop up on eBay soon.  Since they didn't take it out of the box yet, people are wondering whether it is actually new, or a used unit taken out of KnC's farm.
