And we're done.  Truman wins with 8 BTC.  I'll forward escrow details shortly.

It is up to you.
Mine BFL was waiting for payment for 3 weeks after auction was won by Truman it is still not sold:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=384776.msg4681263

Thanks for the pointer.  I'll stick with Truman w/ escrow for now.  If he doesn't pay, I'll work through the PMs with the same offer (there are a couple) before going back through the lower bids.

If Bitcoin isn't crushed within 18 months, it will be meaningless to measure the price of 1 Bitcoin in worthless government paper.

This seems right.

I will stop worrying about BTC to dollar equivalents when I can get contractors working on my house to accept it and use it or something similar to sign the contract.  At the current rate of adoption, that could happen in the next 18 months.  If it doesn't, it's likely because something intervened to stop it from going mainstream.  Then, we'll be stuck in the $1K-$5K (or lower) doldrums for the foreseeable future.

OP, thoughts?

After a quick glance through the forum, I don't see any obvious place Truman didn't pay for an auction.  Unless there is someplace to point saying he has a history of scamming, I don't have any reason to ignore his bid.

Any chance of lowering for those who live within LA, and do a pick up?

Sorry. Just will save the 0.1 shipping if you do a local pickup. No other discount.

Why not ship international. Customs charges are paid by the _receiver_ and it would not be any "hassle".

Probably a bad assumption on my part that it would be a hassle then.  Assuming the UPS folks can get it to you, I'll ship to you.

I have seen confusion with the UPS folks before when somebody had an international address that the employees didn't know how to input.  I wanted to avoid that.  If you have an address they can recognize or are available to work out any issues, I'll ship internationally.

[Auction] KnCMiner Nov Jupiter - Ends 24 Jan at 11am PST
by

Description:

This auction is for my Nov Jupiter.  It's been hashing great since 06 December, but it's time to free up the PSU for another purpose.

Here is a picture of the page after logging into the miner to show it's hashing:

Here is a picture of the CGMiner screen (just switched to Eligius before this picture, hence the short uptime):

http://i.imgur.com/So4Xftcl.png

I just moved it to Eligius so you can see it in operation here:

http://eligius.st/~wizkid057/newstats/userstats.php/1NYs27Einiham4uaJLuLgvnN9obDLFumsT

A picture of the machine sitting in my garage is here (my Mercury is on top of the Jupiter):

http://i.imgur.com/vT2Pgghl.jpg

Starting bid:

5 BTC.  Bid in 0.5 BTC increments.

Buy it now:

12 BTC.

End date and time:

11:00am Pacific Standard Time (PST)

Payment methods accepted:

Bitcoin only.  Willing to do escrow and will split any escrow fees with buyer.

Additional information:

US bidders only.  I don't want to deal with customs, etc.

PSU is not included.  You must provide your own.  Check KnC for official recommendations, but I use a 1000W PSU.

I prefer local delivery within 250 miles of Los Angeles, but will ship via UPS if you live outside that area.  For shipping, add 0.1 BTC.  I will ship Friday afternoon if you have all your information to me and BTC either to me or escrow by then.  The last UPS truck of the day leaves around 16:00 PST from the UPS Store near my house.

Also, I will be offline most of Wednesday, 22 Jan for work.  I'll reply, but it might be slow that day.

How you make the Jupiter run at 800 gh??

I didn't.  I included a Mercury with it.  Sorry for the confusion.  Should probably edit that post....

Close to 800GH/s?
Care to post a screenshot of CGMiner average speed?

Just for comparison - my 2 November Jupiters are eating 1770W from the wall with a peak of almost 2000W.

No immediate way to measure at the wall.  Might invest in something to do that soon.  If you are peaking at 2000W, that could explain why it would run for several minutes before clicking off.

800GH/s includes the Mercury using pool's measurement (varies between 750 and 850).  CGMiner has me closer to 700 right now (585.3 + 123.9).

Been lurking for a while, but wanted to share some Nov Jupiter experience in case it helps someone.

I have a Mercury and received a Nov Jupiter last night.  I had the Mercury on a "Rosewill 650W 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Power Supply Hive-650" and bought a "XFX PRO1000W" for the Jupiter.  However, the XFX would shutoff after a couple minutes when running the Jupiter.  The  solution I found that worked was to plug an extra PCI-E cable from the Rosewill into one of the ASIC boards on the Jupiter.  This has kept me happily hashing on the P2Pool at close to 800GH/s (Mercury + Nov Jupiter) ever since.   Smiley

I am not a hardware guy, so I'm not sure what's going on.  I assume the 1000W wasn't enough for the Jupiter, but that doesn't sound right given what everyone else is writing.

FWIW, the fans were all attached on the Jupiter when I received it.  The box was shredded, but the miner was in much better condition than the Mercury.

[Edited to clarify how the 800 happened.]

Block erupters are toys , or novelty , they were never meant to return hundred of $.

Agree.  After a couple months, I had them paid off and one dinner for the family.  No mortgage payments.

I'm surprised they are that expensive unless folks are raising the prices as BTC value rises.  I bought three for ~$25 each in Sep or Oct.  Might want to keep searching.

Even at $25, breaking even seems hard at this point unless you park them on an alt coin that will rise relative to BTC someday, which is how I made back the cost and then some.  My erupters just solo mine now hoping for a lottery win....

Eligius is growing and might be worth checking out if you want a big pool:  http://eligius.st/~gateway/

I started there to learn the ropes.

I have since moved to smaller pools (https://give-me-coins.com/ and http://hhtt.1209k.com/).  End of the day, the payout is the same (in theory) and I bought into the "smaller pools are better for the network" argument.

That said I really, really want it to crash within the next week. I need more Bitcoins but don't want to buy at a peak.

I agree with this! Wishing I had bought more in the hours following the Silk Road news at $99....

FWIW, I started off with my USB erupters on a 2006 Macbook running Ubuntu.  Also, if you don't need Windows on the laptop, use Linux.  In my experience, it's significantly easier to get USB erupters running with Linux.

Although I haven't put effort into implementing it yet, I have heard good things about Armory as well.

Until my balances reach a high enough level that I'm overly concerned about losing them, I'm using a USB drive with Multibit installed on a Truecrypt volume as my wallet.  I backed up the private keys to other encrypted volumes on other USB drives in case the primary one fails.  Seems to be working so far, but not the "ideal" solution.

I'd appreciate any thoughts on this approach.

If you have a little money, it be worth getting ~3 cheap (<$15 if you can find them for that price) USB Block Erupters.  Point those at an alt-coin (e.g. Peercoin) pool to learn how to set everything up and see some positive results.  You will not make back your money, but it will teach you the basics of setting everything up, working with exchanges to get from alt coins to BTC, and trying out different pools.

That's how I started.  I also used my erupters to learn to solo mine and found a Peercoin block, which was fun (and got me hooked on new/better equipment).   Smiley
