Will it have BIP44 support?
Unfortunately Hive isn't really being developed anymore. The web version might still be developed in the future, but as far as I know it's not compatible with BIP44 and it would be hard to change this without affecting existing users who have existing BIP32 wallets, so I don't think this will ever happen.

Sorry, I really didn't feel like looking through the whole thread.. but does this wallet connect to the blockchain network itself like lite-hd wallets and can perform signatures and verifications of other signatures?
Hive Mac app connects to the blockchain directly (SPV), and can sign messages. There's no verify message feature though.

Hive iOS/Web is JS/browser based, so it connects to the blockchain through an external web service, and it has no sign or verify features.

Hi Hive'rs,

Since december I have been using your service, the web service and the ipad app. Recently I have been getting "internal translation error" on each device and on each os. I have tried android and iOS app's, as well as web service on multiple platforms. On my MacBook Pro i am able to log onto the wallet but only sporadicly. When succesful and i try to get all my bitcoins out to another account I get the same "internal translation error". Any thing you guys can do to help? I have tried sending messages to the hive Facebook page, the Skype chat and the optional mail after an error in sending. I am also open for tips on different ways to get my bitcoins out.

Thank you in advance!
Hi,

I don't work on Hive Web so I don't know what to tell you, but I mentioned this on out internal Slack now, hopefully someone will get back to you about this.

Thanks for the clarification. This is tough for me. On one hand, I absolutely think solid wallet software should be on as many platforms as possible. But on the other hand, if the company (or even just the brand) backing that wallet has what I consider a fundamentally destructive attitude (and even outright objective, as Wendell's quote is pretty aggressive/vehement), the negatives of such a brand gaining more traction probably outweigh the positives.

In any event, I do appreciate you making the distinction (both here and on Reddit) between your project and views, and Hive as a company. Perhaps you'd consider re-branding away from Hive?
That's a nuclear option that will always be on the table, to be used when the disadvantages start outnumbering the advantages, but I'm not there yet.

Hive wallet is running a Bitcoin crowdfunding campaign on Lighthouse: https://mac.hivewallet.com/crowdfunding/

That's funny, cuz the CEO of Hive doesn't think Bitcoin should be valuable, nor considered money:
If you read the crowdfunding info page (specifically "Why Lighthouse?"), it says there that I'm really doing this independently. I'm collaborating with Hive Labs to some extent, and we're keeping this under the same brand, but technically I no longer work for Hive Labs, that's why I need another way to fund the development.

Electrum 2.0 BETA is out. Can we use the seed interchangeably with Hive Web?
Hmm, I haven't played with it yet, so I don't know - I'm assuming it uses BIP32 now? If so, then probably, but it depends on what specific configuration it uses. I'll ask on our Slack.

I store everything in Hive, with a 35 character passphrase, backed up to Google Drive and Dropbox.

I should probably be using paper wallets, but don't like the idea of having to rely on wherever I end up storing the paper.

Google Drive and Dropbox !!! Your coins are awaiting to be stolen.

Read this => https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=686275.0
That guy wrote that he had the password stored in plain text there, if I understand correctly. If you have a reasonably long password and you don't keep it in the open, it shouldn't be a problem to keep the wallet in a cloud backup.

Hi,

I've released Hive Mac 1.4.1 today. Not much has happened, but there's one thing a lot of people have asked about for a long time: private key export! (It uses the unencrypted WIF format, compatible with most other wallet apps.)

What's going on with Hive Web??
More than +/- 48 hours had passed since the post in your Twitter that you are changing the hosting provider.
Are there any updates regarding this?

Is Trezor support planned in version 1.5 or near future versions?
Not anytime soon, sorry. 2.0 needs to happen first with BIP32 support, and then we'll see...

Do you have plan to support Coinapult like Electrum https://github.com/coinapult/electrum ? thx
edit:
I think mobile app with Lock/unLock functionality will be cool and useful.
Hmm, no, I haven't thought about that at all. I haven't even used Coinapult before. Is it something a lot of people use? That repo you linked to, is that a fork of Electrum? So the official Electrum doesn't support it?

What are the chances that the Mac version will gain support for multiple addresses?  I'm currently running core, but am considering using a second wallet that syncronizes across all my devices nicely (I'd like to use something that I have a bit more control over than blockchain.info's wallet, although that one is nice to).  Is there a future plan to make all the different hive versions compatible?
The chances are very high I'd say. I'm planning a few small 1.4.x releases, then a 1.5 that adds support for Waggle from Hive Web, and then a 2.0 release that adds support for BIP32, same way as in Hive Web, with a 12-word passphrase, address changing after every transaction, etc. There probably won't be multiple addresses as in multiple labeled subaccounts with separate balances at the beginning, but it's something that I definitely want to think about.

Hive Mac 1.4 is now available!

Direct link: https://github.com/hivewallet/hive-osx/releases/download/1.4/Hive-1.4.zip

The biggest change in this release is the transaction details popup that appears when you click a transaction on the list:

As you can see it includes: transaction ID (with a link to blockchain.info), some status info, metadata from a bitcoin: URI or payment request, and also the selected fiat currency and its exchange rate at the moment of sending. The share button was moved there too.

Transaction list entries (and contact list entries, since it's handled by the same code) also had a minor redesign and they look a bit more modern now without the gradient.

Other changes:

  • payment transactions are now also broadcasted locally in case the receiving server fails to do that
  • fixed matching of incoming transactions to contacts
  • updated Chinese, Danish and Greek translations

And some selected changes from the 1.3.x releases if you missed those:

  • added a warning that support for apps will be removed in v. 1.5
  • added Norwegian, Persian, Thai and Ukrainian translations
  • added Google Drive backup option
  • µBTC is now called “bits”
  • fixed compatibility with latest Dropbox
  • you can now clear data saved by Hive apps

Also, the Arabic, Hindi, Korean and Urdu translations are still badly in need of updating. And Hebrew, Indonesian, Lithuanian, Sinhala, Slovak and Slovenian translations were started, but the translators seem to have given up pretty quickly...

Re: Considering Electrum and Hive; which to choose?
by

Just to clarify, technically Hive for Mac only needs to be backed up once to allow you to restore access to the funds later, because it only has one address (which makes things simpler at the cost of privacy). Although of course we recommend backing up more regularly for various reasons (e.g. because there's some metadata saved with transactions which you lose if you rebuild the wallet from the blockchain).

(That said, I agree an Electrum cold storage with offline transaction signing is a better way to secure a larger amount of coins, I even have one myself.)
