Where's the best place to start learning cryptography
by
justtheticket
on 16/07/2018, 16:35:58 UTC
I'm such a dabbler of tech...learn a bit here and there, program a bit of xcode, java, css, php, sql etc... but never dig in too deep. But cryptography really fascinates me. I'm sure most of you will say 'Study Maths' but are there some shortcuts or some fundamental mathematical concepts that need to be understood first? I'd love to understand Andreas Antonopoulos' book a bit easier!

Re: Can We Finally Call This the DEATH of Bitcoin?!?
by

bitcoin true price is a reflection of its utility. Start ensuring it gets saved, spent and earned,  then expect it to rise in value. The bubbles sit on top of this value driven by the speculators hoping to make a good return by cashing back out. They are not adding utility to the underlying currency. As more and more fools rush in hoping to make a quick buck, the early speculators cash out and make the gain they hoped for. It has nothing to do with the underlying currency.

Imagine if everyone in Venezuela started using bitcoin and were paid in bitcoin and saved in bitcoin.... As the price rises relative to the USD do you think they will cash out into USD? Relative to them, items and goods will start to look cheaper for things imported with a USD value.

Re: Satoshi is Back, suggests Fortune

When reading the excerpt it certainly reads as credible and doesn't point to anything unreasonable. I can understand the doubt people have but something about it feels authentic. Of course it could be one mans elaborate effort to create a book with some ulterior motive. One thing for sure is that if the book attempts to poo-poo BTC and praise BCH we'll know instantly that it's a load of bullshit. But nothing in the excerpt seems to suggest that. If what he's going to set straight is that 'Craig Wright isn't Satoshi' then that would be a big credibility bonus. There could also be many reasons for not signing with his own key. Perhaps as part of his big plan to disappear was also to destroy his keys thereby ensuring that he can never spend the first minted coins or authenticate himself in the future. To ensure that S. Nakamoto dies when his key dies so that not even himself can go back on his grand plan.

For now, it was a great read and certainly seemed to come from the heart. Especially liked the mention of Hal Finney. A true legend in the Bitcoin Universe.

Playbox - Building a new architecture to facilitate net flow from fiat to crypto
by
justtheticket

Hi all!

We're a new startup business looking to build a team for a new blockchain based architecture to provide an on ramp for cryptocurrencies through ticketing/bookings. It's akin to locktrip (locktrip.com) but instead of being a platform specifically focused at disrupting and displacing the entrenched hotel accommodation booking space, our platform aims to complement, refine and expand the existing models for bookings and ticketing. We believe that by utilising a distributed, open and trusted blockchain platform, existing businesses can free themselves of managing expensive databases, complex payment systems and difficult to manage processes for data integrity.

The key goal for our project is to provide a net in-flow of fiat into crypto through the use of retained funds in the booking/ticketing space. Key to the growth of cryptocurrencies is utility and cryptos so far have provided great utility for significant portions of dark web style transactions. We want to create greater liquidity of crypto through more legitimate and mainstream transactions. One of the largest spaces for this is ticketing and accommodation.

We believe that by creating a platform that benefits, rather than directly attacks, existing entrenched businesses we will be able to garner adoption, and thus inflow from fiat to crypto, far quicker and far more wide spread than we can ever hope to achieve by directly attacking existing enterprise.

Our architecture is designed to make it easy for asset hodlers to create, track and manage bookings/tickets with greater control, defined by their own rules for entry into the open marketplace. Use case examples will be provided in the whitepaper which the first drafts we'd like to present here for initial feedback.

Right now we are looking for advisors and blockchain developers to help build our ICO paper and begin initial development. Ideal candidates are technical individuals with experience in blockchain development with existing experience of the accommodation/ticketing industry/architectures.

We are also looking for individuals who have worked at existing booking platform companies or travel booking experts with experience in market pricing and analytics.

Lastly we are looking for economists who can ensure that a pricing model will function and facilitate the vision of fiat currency flow into crypto.

We'd like to build an active community of 'Playbox' supporters in bitcointalk who recognise our vision to bring us to a fully crypto society. Are you with us?

WHO AM I?

I'm a business entrepreneur with a background in I.T. Systems architecture/rollout who has also successfully operated/joint owned a Marketing Agency for 12 years. I first touched bitcoin in 2011 but having the belief that it would be quickly squashed by governments I put my enthusiasm to bed (deleted 50 coins!). That is until 2013 when I began mining my own again with some KNC miners. I also built a website to help others understand the basics of money and why bitcoin is so important for our future.

Since then family life took priority and again my bitcoin dreams were put on the back burner. In that time, my father who was my biggest supporter died and gave me a greater realisation of a higher purpose. I have spent a great deal of my life trying to understand money, how the world really operates and what needs to change. That deep sense that something isn't right with the world took hold nearly 30 years ago when I was 13 and since then I have always been looking for a way to deliver a profound shift in how we work together.

Thankfully, someone with the initials S.N. already provided that tool and having recently separated and consequently left my Marketing Agency, I am now free to dedicate my life to that vision of profound social change.

Help me build one of the next onramps from fiat to crypto currency. The quicker, easier and smoother we can facilitate this transition, the quicker we can move away from the tyranny of our oppressive monetary system.

Bitcoin Private Fork transaction doesn't want to deliver
by

Hi. Trying to import this address from a forked prv key: https://explorer.btcprivate.org/address/bxd6mYWSpeYCsdKNPxoYJWxoB18u4owSmTF in ElectrumBTCP but it keeps recognising a previously imported prv key related to this address https://explorer.btcprivate.org/address/b156u9Xz6Ky1hNWKVqEv86n7b8xDj4QKNK7.

In essence, I've got the 5.29 BTCP but it wont import the 100 BTCP at the other address.

Any ideas what's going on here?

Roger Vers friend probably. Or had his life threatened by friends of the federal reserve. Nothing quite like an effort to crash the currency and create fear.

Is Kobayashi in cahoots with Roger Ver?
by

I'm sure bcash guys would love nothing more than to see btc crash and a flood of liquidity into bcash.... They've pretty much indicated as much - especially Roger Ver on some of his talks. So with the recent revelation of the mtgox trustee selling large amounts of coin at a perfect time to drive down price, is it possible that Roger Ver is in Cahoots with these people to make it happen? It's well known that Roger ver is associated with the MtGox guys....

Re: Will Bitcoin be replaced by another cryptocurrency?
by

I think you'll get a range of utility tokens and then a single reserve cryptocurrency. There's no need to have multiple crypto currencies. We just need one and then all others should provide some real usable utility.

I believe that value will be stored in a variety of tokens/coins/crypto platforms and the exchange of that value will happen through Atomic Swaps with Bitcoin forming/acting as a central reserve/store of value against these tokens.

Driving Fiat to Crypto
by
justtheticket
on 07/03/2018, 17:32:49 UTC
There are so many ICO's out there right now that I can't tell where to look but one thing is for sure: If any of these ICOs provide useful utility, then it should drive more fiat into crypto. The simple fact is that crypto provides greater currency fluidity when done right. I can't see why you'd go back to fiat when there are enough  platforms that support crypto.

Are there any good ICO's that provide a way to buy its utility directly using atomic swaps and some kind of direct fiat exchange? For example Open Bazaar only seems to offer purchase with a crypto (and offers shapeshift). It would be great if this was made available (at a premium) to buy with fiat and thus bring in more conversion from fiat to crypto.

Looking to build a team for a new blockchain business model
by
justtheticket
on 22/02/2018, 12:55:58 UTC
Hi Cryptos. My old account got frozen due to inactivity but I’ve been a Crypto boffin since 2013. I’ve now changed career to focus solely on blockchain technology, more specifically to build some blockchain models that’s ive been working on. I’m looking for some pointers on key team members I’ll need to build a blockchain system and get off the ground with the inevitable ICO. My core skills are in I.T. Project management, production and marketing having run a marketing agency with my ex-partner for the last 12 years. I would welcome your expertise and knowledge for pointers and tips to get started and where to find quality resources to team up with. I’m also looking for good mentors to help guide me on this endeavour.

Thank you all in advance.

Wife and I separating - new life beckons
by
justtheticket
on 05/02/2018, 15:18:54 UTC
Hi. So long story short: love each other, no longer fancy each other.lots of built up resentments to each other. Built a business together that involved me giving up my I.t. Career to support her marking business. Have 2 kids and working together to remain in same household but separated to keep the family unit. So leaving the business and she wants to short change me as she feels she’s put all the effort in. I hold all the bitcoins from my efforts in 2013 (long term hodler).

Just looking for some community love and support for a fellow bitcoin believer.

Re: Where to buy from 100 to 1000 GPU
by
justtheticket

Hi. Did you have any luck purchasing the bulk GPU miners? I'm interested in partnering up to create a GPU mining farm in a location that has cheap electricity if you're looking for a partner who also has capital to bulk purchase. My thoughts are to minimise duty/taxes is purchase in the country that manufactures and setup the mining operation in that country. Buy in person. The cost of flights/accommodation would be negligible in comparison to the costs of 500+ GPU miners.

Also not a newbie. bct.org forced a password change while I've been in hibernation.
