Feeling pretty silly right now.. I've had a 'copy/paste' issue with the pass phrase which I've encrypted my COLX wallet with, I think rather than the actual passphrase I've probably pasted a file system path as the phrase instead.
I need to figure out a way I can try and make brute force attempts to unlock the wallet to recover the coins.
Is anyone is able to suggest an approach for doing this? or point me in the direction of a tutorial or something?
I have tried to research this, and I've found a few references to brute forcing qt wallets - but I'm unsure of the specifics of these and whether I can simply use that approach for the colx wallet.. any guidance would be most appreciated..
Did you check the backup folder for a wallet before you enabled encryption.
I've done that just now and there appears to be a wallet.dat from before the wallet was encrypted (I'm also quite sure I created a backup before encrypting in case of something like this happening), however when I replace the file with either of these backups and open it it's still showing as encrypted.
- is there a recovery process I need to follow? - I'm assuming all the encryption data is contained within the .dat file itself?
So did you take one of the early backups rename it to wallet.dat and replace your current wallet.dat if the date was before you enabled encryption it should work and not as you for a password.

I've finally reached my week of holding my coins in the wallet and they've all gone over 10k confirmations. Staking status still says 'inactive' in the bottom right, what's the next step to get these bad boys staking?
u Need unlock the wallet.. Setting thirs Option (unlock)
My wallet is unlocked. My only option is to now lock it.
Other info: My wallet is fully synced and has 16 active connections.

The purse was synchronized, but how now from the exchange to put coins on it, there is no address sewn in there?
In the menu, go to File > Receiving Addresses. You can find and manage your address(es) there. You can use this link to explore the blockchain.. your transaction info should all be there: https://chainz.cryptoid.info/colx/
I have a question of my own. I'm using the Mac wallet and am trying to stake.
I opened the config file and added a line saying staking=1 Restarted, unlocked the wallet for staking only and synchronized with the blockchain (and apparently masternodes as well)
My balance hit the wallet exactly 7 days ago, so they should be matured by now, but in the status bar it still says Staking is not active.
How can I fix this?
Type getstakingstatus into the debug console it will give you a better idea what is going on.
I have no idea what mintablecoins means though.. does this mean anything to you?
Ok so that usually means your coins do not have enough confirmations yet. Go to settings options wallet and enable coin control features. Now go back to the send tab and click inputs. This will show you how your coins are split and how many confirmations they have. To be stake the coins need to have around 10000 confirmations.

Now my wallet won't create a sending or receiving address. What is going on??? My coins are who knows where! It seems to me that if the block chain is truly a "ledger" then why when I try to repair my wallet by searching the block chain for the transaction it come back with nothing??? Lastly, why cant I create an address???
Please someone this is gonna drive me insane!!!!!
I sent you a pm I may be able to help.

You guys who are taking the time to answer these questions.... you are awesome. Thank you.
One last ones for the weekend lol....
Question : People say to manually back up the wallet.dat file on the computer. If I went to my wallet and clicked on File, Backup Wallet, while its still running.... will that pretty much do the same thing?
Yes you should make sure your wallet is encrypted with a passphrase, otherwise anyone could open your wallet and take the funds. If you plan on holding for a while I would recommend backing up on another device or drive. I like to encrypt usb drives with veracrypt and store the wallet / passphrase on them.

The arrow on my wallet that indicated staking is active has shut off. Anyone know what would cause this?
Coins need to be staking for 7 days about 10000 conformations. Try typing getstakingstatus into the debug console to get a better idea what is causing it.
Thank you I will try that.
I wonder, does the arrow shut off while they mature again? Meaning, I recieved multiple deposits in the last two days, does that mean all of my coins have now been given and the arrow has shut off while they mature again?
Ill try the option you said about getstakingstatus, thank you.
For a little better idea how your coins are split and current confirmations go to settings>options>wallet and check in enable coin control features. Now go to the send tab in the wallet and click inputs.

HELLLLLLPPPPP! After my wallet was staking apparently it caused a fatal error in Windows and forced a shutdown. Now when I try to restart the wallet it won't open..."Failed reading from database. pcoinsTip best block is not correct. The block database is in an inconsistent state and may cause issues in the future. To force start use- forcestart".
Say what!!!! I swear none of this has even been remotely close to intuitive!!!! Why, why, do programmers not design software for non programmers??? At least speak in layman' terms! The above error messsage doesn't tell me anything other than the wallet can't open!!!!!!
Open the directory where the data is stored. You will see you wallet.dat and backups folder with backups of your wallet. Make a copy of those to a different folder just in case. Then open the wallet and go to tools wallet repair and try re scan block chain files or rebuild index. You can also delete everything besides your wallet.dat and backup folder and let all the files get recreated if the previous steps didn't work.
It won't open the "dat" file. It appears to be all screwed up!
Well now the program won't start at all, but I did make a copy of my wallet.dat file. Some good it does me if the wallet won't start! Coins up in smoke and no customer support that I can locate
Ok so the folder that contains the data default on windows is C:\Users\name\AppData\Roaming\ColossusCoinXT if you used the default, rename the folder to something like colxold. Then launch the wallet exe and it will act like you opened the program for the first time. Click use default location or change if needed. Allow the block chain to fully sync after it finish's close the wallet. Now copy your original wallet.dat and replace it over the new wallet that was created.
