Somewhere I find a topic offering a big place with cheap electricity but location is in Venezuela, OP says he only pay $2 a month for electricity.
Why don't the OP look for this guy, maybe he could give mining a second chance.

Very, very, very high price. Game over for home mining I guess.

+1
I think the price is too high but efficiency of the miner is good.
maybe 5 more years and no more home miners, only big commercial miners.

In 5 years will there be any more bitcoins to mine at the rate of technological advancement?

I think there will be, there's no other way but to go up.
It's just maybe the future of mining is not for home, ordinary people like us would use it as a commodity then mining or process of transaction will be all commercialize. (just my opinion, I maybe wrong)

I think it is best to say that general Scrypt mining just got at least 1/4 to 1/2 less profitable (depending on the coins you mine).

Will this change in the future?  Maybe.

I wouldn't make any crazy decisions until you give all this a month or two to determine the new baselines.

Yes I think it's safe to say like that, nothing is certain specially with crypto coins.

All right captain marvell1, I wouldn't argue, I just don't know whats your point with people asking input and reviews with scrypt miners (scratching head). do you own or hold a large volume of LTC, do you belong to a group of big investor of LTC, otherwise if not then you're just speculating with the upcoming LTC halving  Wink

PS: I was asking for inputs, reviews and not sarcasm.

Cheers captain marvell!
I'm just trying to understand why people do what they do, looking for a reason
As to why ppl are buying scrypt hardware when its not even profitable and its about to get even worse

I can understand if you already had some hardware or prices were better

Look man, there's no point in understanding to why people buy, we all have different situation, different circumstances.
Like mine, 1st I can't put up a GPU miner because looking for a shop that sells PC parts is hard specially I'm in the middle of nowhere
2nd, mining is just a passive income for me, I got a day job.

My plan is to buy miners as long as ROI will be just 2 to 4 months and keep it running 24/7

hitting the numbers on litecoinpool calculator payback is around 10 months even with free electricity how can you get 2 to 4 months ROI ?

btw what gpu mining is profitable now ? in nicehash they're not much better than scrypt IMO ?

yeah lol thats what im trying to explain there wont be any ROI in 2-3 months unless the LTC price goes back up, multipools will be destroyed in the next few weeks since all the hash rate leaving LTC due to the halving has to go somewhere.

Hardware prices are bound to drop which is why I think its stupid to buy now but its your funeral of course.  I have around six A2s and other assorted scrypt gear which I,m selling probbaly since I plan to turn it all off this week.

Hopefully i can find some suckers like you who will pay full price for hardware that is basically worth HALF what it was worth a day ago lol.

So you're saying LTC is doomed, just like after the halving, it's finish.... Grin is that a fact or just purely specualtions?
So what happened to BTC after halving?
I think it's ok to speculate but to a certain degree only, unless you're a holder of huge volume, that you're definitely sure of LTC's future.

Still 2-4 for months ROI is possible.
From the day I invested in ASIC miners and from the day I get back my investment, I never touch my coins, I just took back what I invested and keep all the profit.
I treat my miners as the owner of those coins.
Now let's say my miners earn $1000/month and I buy a scrypt miner for $1200, how long will my investment return, you do the math?

PS: Just don't forget I never pay for electricity & never take a single penny from my pocket to buy an additional miner.
If you still don't get it, I don't know what kind of logic you have.
ROI depends on how "big or small" you invest, ROI is easy to get when you have an existing miners and don't pay for electricity.

Cheers Captain Marvell1

I wouldn't say we will see an obivous spike in hashrate as I think they are still replacing previous generation hardware.  See for instance the S2, and UMISOO(S2) going offline because it is no longer profitable on Hashnest.

I'm just taking an educated guess, but I still think we see the S7 released in September.  Also to guess the price check out this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1159185.0

PlanetCrypto, thank you so very much for the detailed answer. It is as I suspected, and I appreciate your thoughts. Nice set up, if you come across any pictures, I'd love to see one installation. I'll check out the links later.

You're right, I would MUCH prefer a C1 instead of the S3+, but I don't think it makes any sense to chase down a cheap one now and throw MORE money into BTC mining. If one came my way, fine, but I don't want to chase for it.

That said, I'm enjoying this little project, and would consider buying whatever comes from the mind of sidehack and Novak to upgrade the S3+. Sidehack and I don't agree on economics and what constitutes profit, but I like how he works and want to support the effort.

Profit is a nebulous term. What I pay attention to is retained earnings.

Re: Are ASICs still worth investing in?
by
kae1078

I've seen a few rather reasonably priced 675GH/s and above ASICs for bitcoin and wondering if it's still something worth investing in? I can't go for the high TH/s ASICs as I don't have that much money to put forward. I calculated my break even point would be about 9-11 months at CURRENT BTC prices.

Is this still something I can make a little profit from? Baring in mind I can set it up at work so I'm not paying for electricity.

I don't even have to invest in a BTC ASIC if you feel like a Scrypt ASIC would be more profitable. I'm open to all suggestions.

BTC
I would suggest the following TOY as the only legit ..low cost option out there...it does not mine very much but it is a cute little BTC Toy imho Smiley

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1126705.0

what the heck as you can see from the lights and such it is a cute little beastie Smiley Soothing Smiley

The price is 25 bucks total plus 6 bucks shipping. I got two for 56 usd bucks with shipping...so you can't beat that!

anyway besides an over priced Bitmain 5+ which probably for the price you also won't ROI if you have to have a product for home miner addiction this is what I'd get

(me I need a cheap asic withdrawal device for when my home miners go to doorstop stage..the horror...also got a bitseed v2 node just to feel useful after this
whole asic miner at home stuff goes poof! (so sad so addicted)

my KNC Shrine to Titan Miners below Smiley Man I drank too much of the kool aid back in the day Smiley

Good Luck Smiley

As a toy, this is a good candidate.

I think investing is such a broad word, are you investing just because of curiosity, hobby or passive income?
Are ASICS still worth, yes I think they are still, specially the new Bitmains.
If you're planning to invest on a small hash rate as a hobby and just to satisfy your curiosity, then go for it but don't expect great rewards for it.

I was wanting to get one or 2 just to run in the background while I get on with my day to day life, and just make a small monthly profit. But long term I need to know if I'll continue to make profit or if I'll be spending more on ASICs before I actually have a chance to break even.

With the BTC volatility right now, ugh ugh nope maybe break even would be 11 to 12 months.
I think BTC is good for the early starters, those who have establish them selves, big investors, all of them have ROI already, so adding up a new miner is no problem.

Invest only the amount which you are comfortable, don't spend money you can't afford to lost.
