Dash. Dash all day.

Good merchant adoption and using services like Dash Direct is so super fast and buttery smooth.

Give it a try and you'll see why Dash is the payments coin to use.

This BIP seems like it could also be usful in instances where automation is desired but without the need for dynamic qrcodes to be generated eg. vending machines and such.

Just listening to this week's Let's Talk Bitcoin
https://letstalkbitcoin.com/blog/post/ltb-e202-understanding-monero

In the interview one of the Monero developers describes how they will add "Smart Mining" in future releases. It's very simple and something which I think could also help Cryptonite stay decentralized and potentially funded.

Simply put, it's having solo mining on by default but with a check box to disable it upon setup. To keep it from being a nuisance and getting shut off or damaging hardware, it only activates when the computer is not being used and only up to a defined percentage of cpu usage.

The default address could be a developer one, just as long as it clearly says so and gives the obvious choice for the user to enter their own.

There are many ways in which this project needs to improve. This seems like a small step to help guard against mining centralization, as well as give a default way to help fund further development.

New problem: The client is starting up okay now that I've deleted the old blockchain files. Unfortunately, now it always gets stuck at 4 days behind. I've tried resyncing and clearing out the previously cached blockchain a few times but even after hours it still gets stuck at 4 days behind.

@kalon: If it just randomly started doing that I'm guessing something might have went wrong with your block database. Try doing a fresh resync by deleting the old block files from your data folder or starting with -resync.
Actually looks more like exceeding open files ulimit (especially on ubuntu which has a ridiculously small default), but this could be caused by corrupted DB as well.

Thanks. Deleting the chain was the first thing I tried, or at least I thought it was. Turns out I had a second instance which I deleted. Once I removed the files from the correct directory, it started up like a charm.

Now, we just need to see some life breathed back into this project. Alas, I'm not sure if there are enough capable people concerned with moving things forward.  Cry

Everything had been working like a charm but lately I'm having trouble getting the client to start up.

The relevant lines seem to be:
Code:
trusty_amd64_cryptonite-qt_14091021: trieview.cpp:305: bool TrieView::Apply(CBlockIndex*): Assertion `blockCache.ReadBlockFromDisk(block, pindex)' failed.
Error: signal 6:
trusty_amd64_cryptonite-qt_14091021: /usr/include/boost/thread/pthread/condition_variable_fwd.hpp:81: boost::condition_variable::~condition_variable(): Assertion `!ret' failed.
Error: signal 6:
trusty_amd64_cryptonite-qt_14091021: /usr/include/boost/thread/pthread/recursive_mutex.hpp:101: boost::recursive_mutex::~recursive_mutex(): Assertion `!pthread_mutex_destroy(&m)' failed.
Error: signal 6:
I'm running on Linux Mint.

Seems to be some problem with boost. Anyone have an idea what's gone wrong or what additional info might be needed?

Thanks

It would be nice to get the messaging system implemented better. It seems NXT has a way of encrypting messages within it's network. Perhaps that could be used as a model. Seems they are limited to 1000 characters which seems sufficient. What's the limit within Cryptonite?

Can someone point me to where the benefits of the mini-blockchain scheme are clearly stated in contrast to proposed blockchain pruning?

Also, I'm trying to run the webrpc client and I'm getting the error: Fatal error: Call to undefined function curl_init() in /var/www/html/xcn/lib/rpcclient.lib.php on line 130 . I've started cryptonited with -server and ensure that the username and password are the same as what was entered in the client install. Any idea of where I'm going wrong?

There are already several pools available, people just seem to prefer 1GH for different reasons. Even if there was a p2pool I'm not sure it would take much away from 1GH.

Perhaps. But it may be more enticing because it would clearly lead to a more decentralized network and if the options there and easy to setup XCN could be the clear winner in this regard since every other network would require full blockchain to do so.

The nice thing about 1GH is that there is no need to setup an account. I too, like this model. There is also the fact that mining on another pool at this point would basically be equivalent to solo mining.

It may not be a problem now that 1GH is running the network but long term viability would require lessening their share. P2pool's benefits would be worth the switch.

Am I understanding this correctly, Basically 1GH is running the Cryptonite network? It looks like that pool solves almost every block. Seems like a nice pool but this strikes me as a big problem.

I know Bitfreak had doubts that p2pool could work with XCN but if there is any technical way (totally above my head) to make it work then that seems like it would be the best solution. I don't understand the technicalities of implementing the system but Cryptonite has seemed much more likely to be able to adopt the more decentralized pooling system (as apposed to Bitcoin) from an end user point of view because the blockchain is so much more manageable.

This pool issue is something which needs to be rectified and I'd hope someone smarter than myself could make that solution be p2pool.

The account tree pruning may be a difficult thing to implement properly but I think it will be an important feature for the long term success of the coin. This may be rehashing ideas which seem unfeasible for Bitfreak but having an open discussion on the possible methods is helpful. I'd hope that we could find someway which would be both technically doable and tenable by most users, sooner rather than later.

Couple things I've noticed which seem like items to be fixed in the qt client:

1. When clicking on a transaction to get details, the from field always shows 'unknown', though the information is certainly obtainable and is listed in the block explorer.
2. In payment requests, the balloon for the message field states that the message will appear when opened by the recipient's client but will not be sent with the payment. This does not appear to be true since I can't see where it's encoded. Also, why wouldn't it auto fill the message field in the recipient's payment screen? It could be useful for returning confirmation codes to prove a particular customer has a payment. However, wouldn't it also be better if the message was encrypted so that only the payment recipient could read it?

One last one, There doesn't seem to be any qr codes. They're intended to be added to the next release right?

@bitfreak! regarding your query on marketing ideas, I would like to repeat my offer of my nearly 20k LTB coins to contribute toward a sponsor token.  Maybe there are others here in this forum that have LTB coins they would be willing to contribute?  We could buy a spot on the flagship LTB podcast to get a brief message to a huge audience and put Cryptonite back on peoples radar.  I honestly don't know what sponsor tokens are going for these days, but if you want to pursue this I'll check into it.

I've got about 6k I'd be happy to put in. Unfortunately, I need to figure out why my Counterparty seed seems to resolve to the wrong address now.

Cryptonite (XCN). It solves a problem which will eventually hit any other coin which becomes popular, blockcain bloat. The fact that anyone can easily be a full node will help ensure better decentralization and make it more likely that individuals will continue to mine. It also incorporates fast block times and an innovative way to allow secure 0 confirmation transactions.

If people are cheering on a coin which has no technical improvement, then you can be sure they're just looking to dump as soon as the price goes up.

Haven't check that site out before. I quite like it and the way you have all the metrics broken down.
Not sure it would make a bit jump in ranking, but it make me think that a Cryptonite Facebook page might boost visibility.

Was promoting Cryptonite in an Alt-coin forum I share with some friends the other day. Some interest though I got a fairly quick comment about the README.md file on the github page being just stock Bitcoin's.

Perhaps this is a small thing would could be fixed easily to convey more relevant information to newcomers and lend extra credibility as well.

I'm sure there are people better suited to this but I can have a go of it as I have more time.

I notice there are several Cryptonite pools now, but I wonder if it's possible to configure Cryptonite to work with p2pool. This should be vastly better in terms of decentralization and it seems that Cryptonite has an advantage over Bitcoin in this regard since the blockchain needed is so much easier to work with.

Is anyone working on this? I'd look to see Cryptonite move in this direction early on.

New binaries are available with some changes to the RPC and a fix for the issue which affected the 1GH pool earlier. The latest binaries have the changes necessary for the web wallet I created to work properly, so you wont need to compile it yourself anymore to run the web wallet. One of the simplest ways to get the web wallet working as an alternative to Qt is to install XAMPP. Then create a new folder in the htdocs folder which is located where ever XAMPP was installed, and place the web wallet source files inside the folder you created. Now make sure cryptonited and the Apache web server are running, and if your new folder was called xcnwallet then open a web browser and go to http://localhost/xcnwallet/install/install.php and follow the installation instructions. You only need to do that last installation step once, if you already have it installed just go to http://localhost/xcnwallet/

Just checking out Cryptonite now. Didn't realize that progress was being made since you first proposed the mini-blockchain system.

I like that webwallet interface but I'm getting an error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function curl_init() in /var/www/html/xcn/lib/rpcclient.lib.php on line 130

Not quite sure what's going wrong there. Any pointers would be appreciated.
