In my case, i reallt want to rank up and enjoy some privileges of it.  Especially having an avatar!

Think of having a profile with a meme as an avatar!  Meme is life you know.  I really want to have a meme as my avatar hence I need to rank up, and ranking up needs merit.

Okay, it really matters.

Have made my modest contribution to this noble cause  Grin

Re: Can blockchain replace bank?

People always need a choice, and while blockchain and banks are not almost similar (and they will never be), we will have both. In addition, none of the is an ideal solution for all cases, so there's no sense to choose only one of them.

Re: What makes a good ICO adviser? How to pick the right one?
by
katelynsk
on 19/10/2018, 10:52:32 UTC
Are there good examples where advisers made a huge difference in ICO launch?  Please give examples.  Thank you.

You are probably not an expert in all things related to your project, for example, ICO, blockchains, whitepaper, lawyers, commerce, finance, marketing, etc. Here's where an adviser can come in handy - they're usually guys who have experience in launching blockchain projects and are ready to share their knowledge with you, give an advice, answer questions, and so on. For a certain reward on your part.

Look at the most blockchain projects - as a rule, they have several advisers. Usually, all advisers are listed on the project page with key information about each of them, for example, the field in which they are most knowledgeable. The more experts there are in a team, the more confidence it causes. Especially if they are really experienced advisers who have participated in successful projects in the past.

How to pick the right one? You can find them personally at conferences, meetings and events dedicated to blockchain. Just communicate with other teams, with crypto enthusiasts, ask for their advice, ask about good advisers who will be interested in work with you, tell about your project at such events so that such experts and enthusiasts could find you themselves and suggest their help.

You can also look for them offline. Surf bitcointalk and similar forums, surf blockchain projects and pay attention on their advisers, remember, whose project is successful, write to these experts and ask for cooperation. As a rule, they are open to communication. Of course, your project must be look reliable and promising.

First, choose a specialization. It will depend on your preferences. Do you want to write games? Create websites? Teach artificial intelligence? Be a mobile/desktop developer? This is what you need to choose yourself. I don't think that one of the fields is better than others. If you have specific criteria (salary level, popularity, number of vacancies...), just search for statistics on programming languages on web, that's simple.

After that, you will need to choose a stack of technologies which you must know to find a job later (in addition to the programming language you will have chosen). Browse job offers to see what you need to know along with the language. Sort the list of technologies in order to study and start learning.

Almost any resource will be good for a beginner IF you are consistent and persistent. I mean, you need to read everything carefully and regularly, do all tasks described and suggested by the author, look for answers which can appear during your study, etc. I know hundreds of non-programmers who just "want to learn programming" but do nothing to achieve this.

As soon as you get the first idea of what you are learning and what you need to know, you will be able to independently study and choose the best resource for you. A book, a website with lessons and tasks, a youtube channel - it does not matter and also depends on your preferences. Once again - for a beginner. I believe that to become an expert in a particular field, you need to read books, as they are more consistent and detailed. But in the first stage, you just need to get a general idea.

When you specify your goals and strategy, go to any programming community and address your future questions to them. For example, on reddit. Follow their threads to keep in touch and track the latest changes in the field.

Good luck with your learning!

Re: How to start writing an academic essay?
by
katelynsk
on 19/10/2018, 10:02:22 UTC
There is also another well-known trick for students and writers who just cannot start writing some kind of work. You know, that case when the most challenging thing is to begin a significant paperwork, and when you finally start it, everything goes like clockwork. This case is also known as "a fear of a clean sheet". The trick sounds as follows: just start your essay with the words "Well, in short...". And after that, the text goes itself easily, without vacuity and all this spam.

After that, write the flow of your thoughts and spontaneous ideas on the topic, without censorship and long work over each phrase. Such a kind of individual brainstorming. When the main points are formulated, you will need to work on structure and style, maybe remove some ideas and develop good ones.

The most important thing here is not to forget to return to "Well, in short..." and delete this part at the end Grin

Also, sometimes it is easier to start writing from the middle of the essay (main part and main ideas) and then return to the introduction and ending.

Re: How to start writing an academic essay?

What are the basic terms which I should know before start to write an academic essay? If you have experience, can you help me?

First, choose a topic. It must be relevant, original and sound smart. It's great if you don't have to choose a topic on your own, so as this is not the simplest thing at all.

Make an initial research to understand what is already said on this topic and which answers you should give in your essay to meet the expectations of readers. Use this expected answers as key points to prepare a structure of your essay. Don't start writing the main content until you have a structure.

Your work must look complete, so you need to cover all related subtopics and thoughts. At the same time, you should add some new points to your essay, show a new view on the problem. And try not to follow patterns and repeat other authors. As much as possible. However, it's possible to refer to known cases and quotes when it is on topic.

When you have a complete structure and short ideas (subtopics) what to write in each paragraph, start your essay. Just express your own thoughts on the topic. Follow the writing style that suits your situations, audience, and place of publication.

Double check everything in the end. Ask somebody for proofreading your essay if it's possible.

Re: The fastest and longest ICO

It is somewhat funny for me how telegram raised almost 2 billion in presale while there was no public promotion or links for their tokensale i have seen, i have they have raised all those funds from some big private investors, secondly, as telegram has a working product and successful tokensale where is there token listed and traded? And what is the ticker used for it?

Quote
The authors plan to create a fast and easy-to-use cryptocurrency built into Telegram applications. With its help, users will be able to pay for services both inside and outside the messenger - as one of the examples of using TON, the document identifies “decentralized VPN services”.
white paper

Telegram and its crypto had got a great support from the very beginning. Even without public promotion it was clear that it should be loud. As its regular user, I was interested in following the project. So as many others.

Quote from: product developer at Waves
No company with such a huge audience has ever held an ICO

Quote from: Forbes link=https://www.forbes.com/sites/kenrapoza/2018/02/28/is-telegrams-massive-ico-a-harbinger-of-things-to-come/#1cfdcd61aebb
The minimum limit for the first round is as high as $20 million for outsiders and $500,000 for “friends.” It's more like a global roadshow, with wealthy investors from Asia, Europe and the U.S. all willing to bet that Telegram's estimated 200 million users will start using their Telegram Open Network wallets, buy TON coins and spend them on goods and services on the app.

Quote
The Wall Street Journal reported that Telegram decided not to hold an ICO. Why the company's position has changed was unclear, but one of the possible reasons was that they had already got enough money... Another possible reason was their unwillingness to communicate with the US authorities. If Telegram would start a public toke sale, they could expect for more thorough checks by the SEC

Re: GDPR and crypto-related projects
by
katelynsk
on 13/10/2018, 16:23:37 UTC
The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation ) entered into force on 25 May 2018, although not all today's companies (especially startups and small organizations) are ready to it. In short, the GDPR is a new set of rules designed to give EU citizens more control over their personal data. In particular, it guarantees certain data subject rights to individuals from the EU. Some of these rights are:

  • Right to rectification (Art. 16)
  • Right to erasure/right to be forgotten (Art. 17)
  • Right to restrict processing (Art. 18)

So, if you participate in some projects or use some services, your data is officially protected by the relevant laws. In theory. In practice, when it comes to blockchain projects, your rights are most likely violated.

In general, GDPR is incompatible with (many) blockchain projects. Many, because maybe there are several projects which I just don't know about and which are compatible (can you suggest any?).

Firstly, transactions on a blockchain are immutable. You cannot change or delete these transactions once they are written on a blockchain. This is one of the main benefits of the blockchain technology (the blocks cannot be deleted or modified to ensure the security and accuracy of the data), but this is also against GDPR requirements.

Secondly, everybody can browse through the complete history of transactions on a public blockchain. Transparency is another benefit of the technology, we need it and do not want to lose this feature. As a blockchain user, you agree to send your data on a public blockchain, so I believe this is not a problem for a while. However, you also have the right to leave the project in future if you wish, but your data will still remain there.

Thirdly, an essential aspect of GDPR is the data storage location. A company must specify where it stores and transfers your data. The best practice is not to transfer the data outside the EU. However, when it comes to public blockchains, there is no control on who hosts a node.

Of course, GDPR relates to the personal data, so the regulation does not cover a blockchain that uses fully anonymized data. But many blockchain-based projects involve the use of users' personal data.

Blockchain developers must reckon with the law, especially taking into account the support of the technology in Europe - many of your customers will be from there. Some ways to deal with the problem was described here. The main idea is to store the personal data off-chain and store the reference to this data on the blockchain. Not the most optimal solution for obvious reasons, but I could not come up with a better one yet.

An alternative solution would be a revise (extension) of the law for crypto projects. But until that happens, we have to cope with these restrictions by ourselves.

As blockchain developers (if there are any here) are you going to support all the GDPR requirements? Which means do you use to implement user rights, for example, the rights to portability or erasure?

this is a very good point.
I'm asking becouse i would like to know more about it: a project like ethereum, in which way may be impacted by GDPR in europe?

Same as me, our team is working on a blockchain-based project. However, a better solution has not yet been found.

Re: Do you think that challenges improves a person's character?
by
katelynsk
on 13/10/2018, 15:50:37 UTC
I challenge myself from my past experiences and situations enhances ability to improve.

They make you stronger, hardier, build your character, that's right. Your life experience, skills also grow. Up to a certain limit that you can endure and not break, challenges help you to become better.

But they can also awaken bad traits in you. Some people do not stand the test and are amenable to weaknesses. Or they choose a simple way (they steal, rob, etc.), justifying their actions by difficult circumstances. However, one can argue whether their actions are a consequence of circumstances, or circumstances could only reveal their inclinations.

Games? I've actually heard about this direction, but didn't think it could be so profitable. Have you already managed to get some income from this action, or while practicing? Can you give advice on where to start or at least what game to try? I'm very interested in trying what you're talking about.

I don't know, I'm still not sure about that things. There are some websites where you can find some games and description. Like https://thecryptocollectors.com or https://gameunculus.io

But I still need some information. That is why I'm here.

tokenized.games is one more great resource for further research. Before your question, I didn't think about this field of blockchain usage, but it can really be interesting.

I don't know if you ever have seen the TV show called Black Mirror. If not, please, stop everything you are doing and go directly to Netflix or another platform you like to expend some quality time seeing this both dystopic and prophetic show.

The most depressive and at the same time fascinating TV show for today. All Chinese should immediately see it and reconsider their decision.

But seriously, the TV show often takes rather good (or, at least, interesting) ideas and describes the worst possible course of events. We just have to learn from these things and realize them in a better way.

Re: Blockchain games. Whaaat?

Gods Unchained is another example of such a game. This is a turn-based competitive trading card game. Each match is a 1v1 battle against another player. The goal of the game is to reduce your opponent's life. You can play the game for free with a core non-tradable set of cards. Also, you can purchase card packs on the platform itself or buy and sell cards with other players.

And here's a list of many different blockchain games. I've seen there card games, RPGs, multiplayer PvP games, post-apocalyptic survival games, real-time fighting games, multiplayer world-building games, mobile strategy games, tamagotchi-like games, MMO real-time economic strategy games, etc. on Ethereum, EOS, TRON.

Re: Blockchain technology in Africa
by

on 05/10/2018, 13:12:42 UTC
  • In Kenya, the government set up a blockchain to investigate and apply use cases for government services (education certificate verification, traffic management and financial transactions).
  • In Uganda, banks will adopt blockchain technology where necessary to lower operational costs and risks
  • In Sierra Leone, Swiss company Agora applied blockchain to ensure a fair count of electoral votes.
  • In Ghana, a blockchain has been used to settle land disputes and store land registrations since 2016.

Really great informative post. Merited it Smiley
Im wondering tho, in Ghana for example, do they use blockchain as blockchain which is bitcoin or they use database calling it blockchain. Without bitcoin computing power securing network, "blockchain" is just database as we know them from ~40 years?

The project is called Bitland, it exists since 2016. Bitland Ghana is part of Bitland Global LLC. They use the OpenLedger platform by BitShares as the basis of their blockchain. Since the blockchain requires a reliable supply of electricity and internet connectivity, the company will build centers (as part of a 4 your plan) to connect communities to a wi-fi network and reliable electricity.

The Bitland blockchain uses a token, Cadastral, for its operations. Cadastral is needed to buy or sell land, register a land title, buy properties, settle disputes, among others. Cadastral is not mined and a maximum of 30 million Cadastrals will be created. 20 million Cadastrals was made available in Bitland’s ICO held in 2016.  3 million Cadastrals will be used as block rewards over the next 99 years, 2 million for the payment of employees and contractors, 4 million will be sold directly to governments and 1 million privately sold to fund a multi-currency reserve including the US dollar, Ghana Cedi and Bitcoin. Furthermore, 20% of proceeds from the use of cadastral on the blockchain will go to a reserve.

and what could be the idea of a coin? The very idea of the sound is like nonsense! is another way to deceive people and raise money

I threw the link to the coinmarket in the message above. Now they also have an English version of the website here https://rmc.one/en/ if you are interested.

What about Russia, this is not the best country in terms of technology development, but many good programmers were from there, so I would not be so critical about them.

Yes, good example!
Probably, the author has to make his project more attractive.
How can it be interesting (not even in sens getting profit) for investors? Not only because of a dinner
It brings to mind MillionDollarHomePage, but in that case, investors received some PR.
But it is about success  Smiley...

I think this is a psychological trick based on human curiosity and interest in everything unusual. It seems like "let's invest, just for fun. Let's see what will happen next." If the amount of each investment is insignificant, they have nothing to lose. And the authors count on this.

Re: Should I teach myself Python

I've been collecting eBooks from PackT publishing, and the latest free book is Scientific Computing with Python 3. They have a daily free book, and several of them are Python related, that's what stimulated my interest. If you want today's free book you've only got 7 hours to grab it, but they do cycle through the list, so it will turn up again. If you download it, don't forget to get the code file as well.
