Re: How to find out who sent me this BTC
by
katie1348
on 28/02/2014, 07:11:21 UTC
There is a bitcointalk user katie1348 who was last active on this forum on January 15

In their signature line, they've indicated that they accept tips at the address 1kTavPZ5c1G8gDFHEmSimSDFVkG4mybLs

On January 14 (or January 15 depending on your timezone) the person that controls the address 1CsdwuSV6vnMM8Bv4ngMS5aWf5zAUhjF4k sent katie1348 exactly 0.0101 BTC in the following transaction:
https://blockchain.info/tx/4d1e41bb3890a3beae3f3145a74f9f07766b03921fe8eb389c7e9c724b5c53fd

Perhaps you can send katie1348 a PM and ask them if they know who they received the 0.0101 BTC from on that date?  If they do, then they can tell you who owns that address.

There is a bitcointalk user Porte who was last active on this forum on February 18

In the following post, they've indicated that they control the address 1Lk5Paws9T1YpoSeLeZT7ZeSQKW7UNq4TJ:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=450200.msg5188367#msg5188367

On February 16 the person that controls the address 1CsdwuSV6vnMM8Bv4ngMS5aWf5zAUhjF4k sent Porte exactly 0.075 BTC in the following transaction:
https://blockchain.info/tx/d252a1ab3a0edd7e44c83a81ebcc7c9c3cc02f96fb9d30875ae72333ee40c1d5

Perhaps you can send Porte a PM and ask them if they know who they received the 0.075 BTC from on that date?  If they do, then they can tell you who owns that address.

The controller of 1CsdwuSV6vnMM8Bv4ngMS5aWf5zAUhjF4k frequently sends bitcoins to the address 1MvaQ3Lr86Y1ShmicbP5DefLH81cHhFm4q (18 times so far), and they are the ONLY person who has ever (so far) sent bitcoins to the 1MvaQ3Lr86Y1ShmicbP5DefLH81cHhFm4q address.  Each time bitcoins are received at the 1MvaQ3Lr86Y1ShmicbP5DefLH81cHhFm4q, they are later spent from there.  If I had to guess, I'd say that 1MvaQ3Lr86Y1ShmicbP5DefLH81cHhFm4q belongs to either a second wallet that is controlled by the same person as 1CsdwuSV6vnMM8Bv4ngMS5aWf5zAUhjF4k, or is a funding address for some online service.  Either way, if you can figure out who controls 1MvaQ3Lr86Y1ShmicbP5DefLH81cHhFm4q you'll probably be able to figure out who controlls 1CsdwuSV6vnMM8Bv4ngMS5aWf5zAUhjF4k.

Good luck in your search.  That's all I have time for at the moment.  Let us know if you manage to figure it out.

I have no idea who sent the donation to me.

I assumed that it came from someone on this forum as it is the only place that the address is used.

Perhaps I said something useful to someone.

My apologies.  But I don't really like it.  I don't like the font,  I don't like the color.

Fair enough.

What do you like in a font?

What colours do you like or not like?

Is there any other guidance you can give, rather than me try everything in the hope of getting lucky.

I have taken the idea of the I and the X, and made them into something currency symbol like.

This is still recognizable when small.

I think your share pricing is too expensive.

You are expecting people to put down the equivalent of what about $50,000.

Perhaps to a Bitcoin-millionaire that is not a huge amount of money, but it will keep many people out of the network, who would be interested.

I am not sure you have provided anywhere enough information to warrant that kind of investment.

K

Thanks, when I wrote it, it was more like $10k...

Anyway - is there a way to make this work without the shares? I don't like them as a concept... The bail and the clever way of allocating it should be the centerpoint of this structure.

I understand your dilemma.

It is vitally important that the managers of the network are trustworthy and upstanding, as the reputation of the system will ultimately be theirs to reflect and shape.

I am not sure that simply making it available to the highest bidder is the best way to get the kind of trust I think is needed.

If this is the case, what other options are there.

OK, that is a fair point. I see where you are coming from now.

I think that the media in general don't really understand what bitcoin is or why your might want some. In that vein, they simply look for a sensational story and try to drive some attention to their properties to generate ad revenue.

I am currently thinking ignorance rather than anything else, unless they were part of bitcoin, they will not really understand and if they are part of it, then they would not publish such pieces.

I am not sure I have all that much to add, except to say:

If we end up in a situation where the dollar looses its reserve currency status, I am not sure that BTC will be all that useful, as I am sure there will be all kind of other fallout.

Being able to add a physical location or add in a country and region during the submission might help.

You could quickly get swamped with sites, this might help people find things.

For example, people in the US will not be interested in physical stores or items from the UK, in most cases.

BTC could well now be into its stabilization phase.

This is where there have been enough coins mined and the prospect of getting the rest wills start to look like the preserve of the few deep pocketed miners. Most will abandon mining as it get harder and the investment goes up. They are costing more to produce.

If this is a phase with BTC finding its true price, then the speculators will make a lot more money, both BTC and other currencies.

After all, what is value and wealth. Are you thinking short term or long term?

A merchant, i.e. someone who is selling, must buy from their suppliers.

If the merchant takes BTC and their supplier does NOT, then thy must convert to another currency, one which their supplier will accept.

As more business and people take BTC as payment, a self-reinforcing process begins, in which BTC will become more accepted, as it is more accepted.

See how that works. We call it positive feedback.

This is why you see what you seen now.

Re: Group-Buy 2nd batch Avalon - Anyone interested?
by
katie1348
on 07/05/2013, 06:35:12 UTC
Hello to all,

Some news and updates: I've decided not to buy anything from e-bay. Why? Because of the simple fact that i can't afford, nor do i want to pay $15000 for an Avalon miner. Call me crazy, but i'd rather build my own.
So, that said, i'd like to announce the opening of a large Group-Buy through escrow, of course, of 10000 Avalon chips. My goal here is to finalize the order and have the chips delivered to eighter: a. You, if you know what to do with it (Check out the DIY threads) or b. a trusted developer, who can assemble a device using those chips and have a fully functional mining device delivered to You.

Some pros for this thread (Question: Why would i order from you? )
- 5% fee for the handling and effort, instead of 9.9% like others have (i do not intend to make competition, my goal is simply to order my chips as well and give time for people to order. I consider 5% for me is enough for me. Period.)
- I will do my best to have a PCB assembled and tested in Romania, for romanian costs. This would ensure a cheaper device overall
- My ordering window is by the end of May, but i will try to complete at least one batch by the 15th of May, so our order gets delivered sooner
- I have used the escrow service from John K., so you can rest assured you get what you pay for

If you're interested, please express your demand on this thread --> [Group Buy] Avalon ASIC Chips - Escrow by John K. (Eastern Europe / Romania)

Thank you,
Steve

I do not know who the user is, but creating your own product is a huge undertaking, this is why people go to people like Avalon and Butterfly Labs to get miners.

Who is going to write the software drivers, firmware on the device etc?

About the payment, we can figure out a btc payment via escrow. There is a John K person here that already solved a task like that.
About the payroll, Kate, we can eighter share the profits based on initial payment (budget of a person), in percentage, or we can set-up a funding entity on btct.co and have shares which bring an incentive (dividend) every round. We can also trade those shares later. i see many BFL devices for sale besides Avalon. I'm not sure if we can raise the funds for an avalon (roughly $30000). What do you guys think? Shall we raise the money first and then think of options to spend it?

Steve

Thank you for answering my payout question. I think I would want to know that my payout would be real and regular.

I think, it would be better to line up the investors, perhaps in escrow, then have the machine, with pictures etc. This would then allow the escrow to release and we start mining and getting payout for the box.

What fee would you want to take?

Yeah I think so. Looking for donations. I inquired about the "manual" and got no response.

I note with interest, that my question from last week, about performance has gone unanswered too.

It does seem fishy that there has been on real response.

Re: New Bitcoin eBook store looking for a few testers
by
katie1348
on 21/04/2013, 20:04:30 UTC
I think you have to decide between two competing forces: one the one hand, publishing a DRM-free ebook makes it easy for people to obtain it which hopefully diminishes copying. Ease of use and ease of purchase drive sales. On the other hand, if copies are made and you do not follow up with takedown notices, you will see a bigger amount of unlicensed copying. Going with a bigger vendor reduces this significantly, but that's what you pay the hefty fees for. If you're selling a $200 textbook, you probably need protection. if you're selling a less than $5 ebook, you probably should just self-publish and admit that some people will copy it. Middle ground is to get the book on the apple store, on kindle store etc.

Yes, I suppose you are right, it is a difficult balance, as once you put the work out there, it is too late to take it back. Smiley

It is a permanent choice. Your words had the ring of sensible, so I will think on it and see how things progress.

K

P.S. Thanks for the input and the time to help.

How will you stop people copying the books and posting them online for free?

I like the idea and I have a book, that might be of interest. But I also want to make some money from my books, so would want them to be protected from direct posting online.

K

As with any file you are free to use the DRM of your choice. However, the simple truth is unless you want your readers to sign up for accounts on things like Adobe Content Service you are either going to need to publish through a DRM-enabled store (like Apple or Amazon) or forgo DRM and drive sales through ease of use, knowing that there may indeed be copies being made. If it is important to preserve digital rights, you should not be self-publishing unless it's on a platform that controls the reader from sale to reading, in other words, a platform that sells the file and safeguards it, usually by tying it to certain devices or software readers.

I would appreciate hearing more from you on the subject. http://electricbookworks.com/kb/self-publishing-ebooks/drm-and-self-publishing/ might point you in the right direction also.

This exactly highlights my problem. I very much doubt that I will be selling significant quantities of my books, as they are not that kind of book. So if there are lots of shared copies, then there might only be a handful of sales, and at that point, it is not worth me releasing an e-book version of a book.

On the other hand, I don't sell many printed books either, since I have stopped pushing them, too much profit for the shops and not enough for me. Which is why the e-book would be really nice.

If anyone has any thoughts of how to get round this problem, I would appreciate it.
