Re: ARDOR NXT
by
keats3
on 05/07/2016, 13:53:19 UTC
can u guys tell me what can be done with the nxt-ardor in the real life at this point of time?

~CfA~

Ardor can't be released until after the snapshots starting next week that decide who gets the coins. When it is released it can be used for blockchain as a service, phased transactions, decentralized voting and governance systems, and decentralized Asset Exchange.

We can't give away too much until the final features of Ardor are tested repeatedly.

But, here are a few of the features coming with the new Ardor release:

1. Offering Blockchain as a Service - Ardor will open blockchain development to organizations and individuals across the world. The high barriers to getting started with blockchain are about to vanish.

2. Manageable Blockchain Size - Ardor will solve the problem of scalability by separating transactions and data that do not affect security from those that do, and moving all of those that don't affect security onto child chains. The Ardor team will create the first child chain to house many Nxt 1.0 tools as well as future features. This small size also comes with short transaction times so processes need only a fraction of time compared to Bitcoin to execute functions.

3. A Decentralized Asset Exchange - Building off of the Asset Exchange on Nxt, Ardor will enable the ability to trade assets on any child chain for any of the child chain tokens. This allows child chains to interact with each other and opens up numerous opportunities for collaboration as well as allow cross chain asset trading, a long-requested feature within the Nxt ecosystem.

4. Decentralized Voting and Governance Systems - Ardor will be at the core of decentralized consensus in the future. Secure and anonymous voting will be an available feature on all child chains as it is on the Nxt platform.

5. Phased Transactions - Users can set multiple conditions before a transaction is executed, such as a minimum number of votes and a set amount of time. Like Nxt, Ardor will use Smart Transactions. With this, users will only need to submit the parameters necessary for the transaction and the ID of the functionality they want to use. The transaction process is also completely decentralized. No centralized server, service, or application, like Ethereum’s Oracle, is needed.

“Rather than providing smart contracts, NXT is focused on implementing the important use cases and functions directly into the core of both Nxt and Ardor. This approach has proven to be scalable and secure and will become more so when Ardor is released” – Riker

These are a few of the things Ardor will give you and the cryptocurrency community. As development continues and testing is finalized, you'll get a detailed analysis of each of the new tools, as well as the core features built into Ardor. We'll also reveal, step-by-step, a list of our partners and what they're doing with our technology.

Oh, and when I found it at .50 (cents), I couldn't find a place to buy some.  Cry  eheheh
Memory lane...

What were your options around then? I thought there was always the OTC channel and the new liberty standard place. Maybe it was gone by then. I dunno.

I should preface that by saying I hadn't yet read the white paper. I was going off intuition to be honest. I was not into Crytpo before that (just trading and computer work).
So, I did a few searches and it just seemed like a lot of work, wasn't sure about wiring money to GOX.
And then the price was at $1 and I thought "How can a digital money be equal to a dollar?" LOL
So, my ignorance "cost" me but that white paper made a light go off in my head.

Before that moment I was a relatively early internet employee during the bubble. At that time I saw the internet as a big old Black Swann.
When I came across that white paper, I saw it as a Black Swann on steroids.

Its about sharing

If I recall correctly there was a massive dump back down to .50 (cents) after it rallied to $2, so you might have panicked and dumped for less than you paid for if you had bought at one dollar. Nobody could have dreamed these prices were possible back then.

Hello,

i tested the Win Qora wallet. The block sync over block 175K is very slow. It that normal?

Note: the Announcement link is old http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/qora/   Wink

Syncing's much faster if you download the data folder containing the blockchain, unzip it and then put it in your wallet's folder before running it for the first time. The latest data folder zip is only a few days old.

http://qora.co.in/data/data_20160528_122841_220996_v0260.zip

It's also best to restore your wallet using your seed if you want the fastest sync.

Re: Technological Wizards of the Banking Industry
by

So the bankers have literally just been designing and developing ever more inventive ways of milking us all.

haha yes, exactly this.  That is their main motive.  I cannot see them attempting to innovate for the people or really do anything for the people.

Their technological wizards were responsible for the fiasco's when nobody could make or receive payments when they upgraded their systems. During those fiasco's no customers bosses could pay them their wages, so they couldn't pay their direct debits, and loan payments. The banks then tried charging their customers for not honoring those direct debits, and loan payments although their incompetence had made that impossible.

Those technological wizards will be hard at work designing the banks personal blockchain, which will be as big a fiasco.

Big gap opening up on dodgy dealings that is BTC-e.

What irony [insert gif here]

Maybe BTC-e is becoming our new price leader?

Although they have been up for several weeks - even when BTC prices were going down.

I doubt BTC-e's higher prices and widening gap should imply any kind of "dodgy dealings" necessarily.

Their actual anonymity and difficulties in transferring cash in and out of there has always caused them to perform a bit different from some of the other exchanges that are more KYC and AML compliant.  No?

Is there any other evidence of "dodgy dealings," besides a ongoing and increasing price gap?

BTC-e has always been one of the lower volume exchanges and it never needed much money to create a wide gap with the high volume exchanges. Today its had $ 2,207,640 of bitcoins traded which puts it slightly below Bitstamp in volume. That's not evidence of "dodgy dealings" but it's highly unusual for BTC-e to have that much volume. The order books still look fairly thin, so if someone with money wants to buy a big number of bitcoins there it will make an ongoing and increasing price gap.

Its lost 9.36 % of its value today, and its been falling for three days now. I'm not sure it's going to quadruple again, it will probably keep falling down to the price it started at last week. Unless there is a something new announced that gets people buying I don't think it will go back up.

dash still pending

and i dont know how to deal with other coins inside cryptsy ,,, i have 100 Dash inside I hope to find solution to withdraw

Are you saying you managed to withdraw bitcoins from cryptsy in December? I thought they had locked bitcoin withdrawals for everyone by then. I know you can withdraw some altcoins that have low value, but not bitcoins. You must be one of the last people who managed to withdraw bitcoins from cryptsy.

BTC-e now $425 and Bitstamp is at $423... I smell a rat or a dump coming...

Bitstamps's gone down to 417.9. Your dump smelling powers are awesome. I had a suspicion a dump was coming, but my intuition is wrong so often that I can't make trades using it.

I tried a small withdrawal from poloniex, but all it's showing is "COMPLETE: ERROR". There is no transaction ID shown, and my wallet on poloniex shows it hasn't had any coins withdrawn from it.

This must be poloniex's wallet QPVknSmwDryB98Hh8xB7E6U75dGFYwNkJ4 because my coins from my last poloniex deposit were swept into it.

It contains over two billion coins, and forged most blocks until block 162891 on 2015-12-26 16:23:16 utc. After that it hasn't forged a block. Is poloniex's wallet resyncing?

There's a map of bitcoin ATMs, but I don't know if they are all on it, or if it's up to date. The copyright on the page says 2015 so the machine locations on it must be from this year.

http://bitcoinatmmap.com/

I have yet to see one in the flesh because the nearest to me is a two hour journey away. When I have time I intend to have a day out to try my first ATM.

mh, the day after the FED hike stocks are down, gold is up, and BTC is upper.
Looks like sound money.

IMO it's still flat, not upper. The FED hike did nothing to bitcoin, but smashed stocks down. The honey badger doesn't care what the FED does. If bitcoin goes above 470 and keeps going up then it's upper. For the last half a week it's been sideways within $15 of range.

the best place for this discussion is in project development https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=12.0

of course there are legal and regulatory questions too... be careful and educate yourself... but i have seen tell of localbitcoin alternatives... never really checked any out though... localbitcoins aint broke so why try and fix it?

I wouldn't consider it unless you can afford the advice of legal experts who specialize in anti money laundering law. There are serious penalties for setting up any money transmitter business without complying with all applicable laws. That's why local bitcoins enforces submission of KYC documents for all customers doing business there except those doing face to face swaps.

If government agency, private enterprise, Dr. Evil, etc had new technology with more hashing power than the entire Bitcoin network they could find a better use for it than forking or double spending attacks on Bitcoin. A government agency possessing new technology with that much power would want to keep it secret. If anyone else openly advertised the fact they had such technology by attacking Bitcoin they would find themselves rapidly targeted by a number of government agencies attempting to get it off them. The NSA/CIA would love to get their hands on new technology with that much power.

Re: Why is "bagholding" seen as a negative thing?
by
keats3
on 19/06/2015, 11:11:18 UTC
I wouldn't have half the money I have now if I didn't "baghold"

i dont think you understand this term..
bagholding means you were left with a large sum of coins after it hit rock bottom.. meaning you didnt sell when you had the chance.. or you bought in too late while it was on the rise and it is now worthless.

the thing with altcoins is after the initial pump and dump of the premine, someone is always left with the large sum of coins they were conned into buying.. the bagholder..

Sometimes bagholders stuck with large sums of worthless coins get lucky when the coin rallies again. After Bitcoin hit its ATH there were posts by people saying that before the rally they considered themselves bagholders of worthless BBQCoins. Luckily for them BBQCoin mooned after Bitcoin and the BBQCoin "bagholders" made a huge profit.

If you are in windows go to C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\Shell\
If you are on linux go to /home/YourUsername/.shell

Make a file named shell.conf (cAsE matters)

add these lines to your conf file

Code:
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcuser=makeup_a_username
rpcpassword=makeup_a_password
server=1
daemon=1
listen=1
staking=1
addnode=178.62.19.234:12454
addnode=85.25.198.151:12454
addnode=84.25.42.239:12454
addnode=5.45.179.149:12454
addnode=5.45.179.149:12454
addnode=148.251.41.117:12454
addnode=85.25.198.151:12454
addnode=178.62.19.234:12454
addnode=37.59.18.108:12454
addnode=109.92.237.241:12454
addnode=74.77.15.47:12454
addnode=50.27.57.17:12454

It would help non techies if the dev added a .conf file download link to the OP. Not everyone finds it easy to make a .conf file.

Well I sent a request asking what was up earlier and got this response.

"SHELL tripped one of our internal security alerts, it is now back online as everything checked out fine."

So whatever that means lol

That's really absurd   Huh did this happen before, they should post a clarification. They just scared people away for no reason at all.
At any rate I will have an announcement tomorrow that will surprise most of you and put SHELL on the right track again.

Never heard of this happening before, it's a bit weird but it's back now so that's the good thing.

Look forward to the update

Poloniex has a similar automated mechanism. If someone deposits a large percentage of a coin's distribution then all trades are automatically frozen until one of the staff can verify there is no funny business going on.

The USD withdrawal is enabled.

In my opinion they should open CNY/USD trading.

If they are to open CNY/USD trading, why not allow trading other currencies as well?
usd trading was stoped before steled btc, since january for Trouble with egopay

I never registered for USD withdrawals, but I checked if it's possible, and the only withdrawal method I can see is by egopay. There is a drop down list with only one option saying "egopay (fee 0%)". Isn't egopay closed since they were hacked?
