regarding no1 - There is no Heavycoin windows installer, so I think something needs to be configured in your Windows to make the association work.
Gotcha - figured that part might have been handled in the client itself Smiley

However, that doesn't explain the error thrown when feeding the client the URI manually, e.g.:
Code:
heavycoin-qt.exe heavycoin:HTQUFnH79dorHhfJATgLDUAwNpQ2Xa9LLb
or
heavycoin-qt.exe heavycoin://HTQUFnH79dorHhfJATgLDUAwNpQ2Xa9LLb
yields:

I'm not sure this is all there is to it, but I'd guess that at least this one line was overlooked:
https://github.com/heavycoin/heavycoin/blob/master/src/qt/guiutil.cpp#L83

I've fixed heavycoin:// URI parsing issue and tested it this time / plus updated the builds, sha256 checksums, and signatures.  [It was what you found, but also the length of a string replacement for stripping out "//" needed fixing too.]

If you download 1.3 again you'll get the patched version (1.3-4-g565b5a9).  This build includes improvement to the Chinese translation of "Heavycoin".
The windows installer will have to wait for the next release.

Thanks for your contributions

regarding no2 -  I guess the forum mangling is related to the length of it... maybe we change to hvc:// Would that fit?
I suspect it's some forum URL parser at work where an exception was made for "bitcoin:".  Using hvc (or heavycoin, etc.), you get this:

Code:
input: hvc:HTQUFnH79dorHhfJATgLDUAwNpQ2Xa9LLb
result: http://hvc://HTQUFnH79dorHhfJATgLDUAwNpQ2Xa9LLb

input: hvc://HTQUFnH79dorHhfJATgLDUAwNpQ2Xa9LLb
result: http://hvc//HTQUFnH79dorHhfJATgLDUAwNpQ2Xa9LLb

If that's the case, then there's not much that can be done about that without getting forum operators to add heavycoin to the list of allowed protocols... and then watch as hundreds of other coins also want it Wink

You're right.  We've missed something.  This will be fixed for the next release, but we'll try to get a point release out sooner.

Payment protocol support for heavycoin: URIs

Can you confirm this is working on Windows?  No protocol handler is set up, and passing the URI on the command line yields "URI can not be parsed!" using my address / example address from unittests.cpp .
( as an aside: bummer - the forum software mangles the URLs no matter how I seem to format them Smiley )

I love how cool my miner is running

What next phase?

The next phase is the "Limit phase".  In the limit phase voting for a lower block reward has the effect reducing the max money supply from 128M to something smaller.

The max vote is still 1024. The duration of the limit phase is in the number of blocks.

So if the voted block reward is 512, then for each block mined 512 coins are effectively lost from the network forever and the total money supply decreases.  (The coins that are "lost" are the 512 that could have been mined if the block reward was the maximum 1024.)

Yes but that is what is being questioned as it doesn't add up.  It appears you just confirmed that page is wrong and both the mint and limit phase will go on longer then this page says.

If we get this correct:
Website says 45 Million coins in mint phase but code is 53 Million coins which means we have more inflation and the mint phase will go on even longer with high votes. Unless this 53M is the combination of 5M IPO, 3M Premine plus 45M mint phase which would add up to 53M.

you are confused. there are only 3 phases of voting. the genesis block is part of the first phase, but not mined. the 53M includes the IPO.  website correctly shows that only 45M are mined in mint phase.

Website says both 45 days for limit phase and also says 63,476 blocks which would be 88.1 days.  Code says 88.1 days so again we have a longer limit phase with high votes.

no. the website says 56 days for limit phase, not 45 days.
website has a typo... says 56 days, but should say 88.1. we will update this!

no matter... the max supply introduced is calculated based on # of blocks, which is correct on website.

max supply introduced during limit phase is 64,999,424, as presented on website.

the duration of the limit phase does not depend on the amount voted. the duration is approximately 63,476x120sec ~ 88.1 days. limit phase is in blocks, not money supply.

the max vote for the last 3600 blocks of the limit phase is 8. during this time the reward could be 1024 or 0 and 42... no matter, the time per block will be 120sec.

The 8 million difference is the IPO/Premine is it not?

The IPO/Premine was 8,000,000 coins total. Hmmm,  need to check that.

But still doesn't address the limit phase block difference.

Yeah, with 45 mil in the Mint phase and just over 10 mil in the sustain phase and a minimum supply of 63 mil (if 0 vote through limit phase) leaves 8 mil for IPO/Bounties/Developement ect. I am also curious as to the block count issue brought up as that doesn't add up.

IPO/Premine (Fixed) = 8,000,000
Mint (Fixed) = 45,000,000
Limit (max vote) = ( 59,876 * 1024 ) + ( 3600 * 8 ) = ( 61,313,024 + 28800 ) = 61,341,824
Sustain (Fixed) = 10,000,576

Max Total Supply = 124,342,400

For limit phase either....
block count is off,
the days are off,
or the block time is off.

Based on 56 days with 2 min block time...
3600 * 8 = 28,800
36720 * 1024 = 37,601,280
Total Limit = 37,630,080
Total Supply = 100,630,656

The equation you are looking for

Code:
main.h:62:static const int64 MAX_MONEY = (PHASE1_MONEY + PHASE2_BLOCKS*MAX_VOTE + (nBlockRewardVoteSpan + 1)*MAX_VOTE + PHASE3_MONEY) * COIN;

Missing from your calculations is (nBlockRewardVoteSpan + 1)*MAX_VOTE
A special voting interval needed to make sure the block reward decreases from 1024 down to 8 before the sustain phase starts; otherwise you could start the sustain phase with 1024 block reward, which would be bad...

you gets

Code:
MAX_MONEY = 53000000 + (63476 - 3600 - 1)*1024 + 3601*1024 + 10000000 + 576 = 128,000,000

This has been on the "About" page from day one: https://heavycoin.github.io/about.html#decentralised-voting

Quote
The second phase (Limit) allows a maximum vote of 1024 HVC for the first 59,876 blocks, but 8 HVC for the last ~3,600 blocks so it can transition into to the last phase (Sustain).

static const int64 PHASE1_MONEY = 53000000; // 45,000,000 (min 30D, max 171Y)
static const int64 PHASE2_BLOCKS = 63476 - nBlockRewardVoteSpan - 1; // 44D (min 0, max 64,948,224)

Just curious, but what is nBlockRewardVoteSpan set to any ideas?
If it happens to be 23,155 then that would be correct.

Code:
main.cpp:1182:        nBlockRewardVoteSpan = 3600; // Tally votes every 5 days

I like this coin because you can get coins to for free and the wallet works great! This wallet is a way better then wallets of the other coins that crash and have all kinds of issues.

Thanks.

Not entering into any logo competition here, but it might be interesting to do something completely different (although I vaguely recall some other altcoin doing this, I can't find it now);

Heavycoin(ium).  Looks like a periodic table element, rather than the ubiquitous round 'coin'.  The element (proton count 126) is actually Unbihexium, which is a superheavy element, suspected to be in the island of stability.  Its rumored most stable form would be doubly-magic, but for the mass I instead chose the first element of the initial hash values, in decimal expression (with a decimal point thrown in for no good reason other than artistic license).  Abstracts pretty well into small icon form (drop everything but the 'Hv').  On the down side, Photoshop and the show Breaking Bad have made using that form somewhat cliché.

Intresting!  we like that its different/  mumbly will be posting some new logos here sometime soon,. to get people's opinions.

Can i ask a feature for the wallet? Proper "heavycoin:" uri handling Smiley

I'm gonna need it so the wallet pops up with the payment when someone clicks a "pay" link in my app Smiley

Hey chiguireitor,

I understand what you're asking, but not sure what the implications are in the code - let me bump this with the dev team - If you're working on an app that includes HVC I'm sure they're very interested in helping.

Cheers,
M

as for as we know this is not a function of the wallet, but of your host OS.. You must associate the heavycoin: prefix with heavycoin-Qt command.

Good coin by idea, bad coin by maintenance but I'm not complaining  Grin

Good because Heavycoin has received all the maintenance it has required so far. and we will continue to maintain it.

There have been no bugs and the coin has handled huge swings in difficulty without getting stuck or needed a hard fork.  That's very good for a coin that is not a copy and paste and actually experiments with several new ideas.

For those suggesting the idea that the devs should override the democratic aspect of Heavycoin and taper the block reward, you are going to be very disappointed.  This is not "maintenance" and such development won't be happening because it would go against Heavycoin's democratic principle of having the block reward decided by decentralized block reward voting.

It's entirely sensible for current miners to mine as much as possible before the limit phase, if that's what they have democratically decided.

For all those who want to fork the HEFTY1 cryptographic hash and get the power savings advantages.  We don't mind as that serves as a form of promotion for Heavycoin.

Stay tuned for an upcoming anoucement from our new head of marketing and promotion.

Sounds like an interesting idea, but what do you mean by "trade value"?

Is this about building adoption?

If you are trying to increase adoption, then we can support your effort with some HVC from the Heavycoin fund.  Just let us know the details.

thankz

Hey guys,

Working on a project - I could use some input if you have ideas.

I'm presenting an idea to my board next week for a social experiment - my idea is to create a social experience with crypto using HVC.

It's a 60+ person office and I want to focus more on relative value rather than HCV/BTC/USD.

The idea is all participants receive 100HVC at the beginning of the month and have 30 days to trade value through what ever mechanism they come up with. Prizes for the three largest holders at the end of the project.

So the parts I'm trying to figure out:

- What is the most friction-less way to get these guys comfortable sending and receiving HVC?

- what process do you guys think is easiest for people who are new to crypto/HVC to trade coins?

- Please, Poke holes in the idea - I'll document this if it goes ahead and I'd be more than happy to share my experience if anyone else wants to try doing the same.

Cheers,
M

WRT block reward.  It's completely in the hands of the voters.

what's wrong with HVC?

Who is killing it?

The voting is HVC's problem and it's the +500 votes that are killing it, IMO.

I turned my rig back on HVC with a 0 vote.  Curious to see if it makes a difference now that there are less people mining it.

It's clear that the devs will maintain HVC but not do much more. The community is very much in the wheelhouse on this one.

A community rally that significantly drops the vote might help HVC at this point.

+1 for community activity

hmm... It's been 6 days since my last post.

Just a quick note to say that we Heavycoin developers are still here and we will continue to support Heavycoin for the long term.   If there's something urgent then please send us a BitMessage.

Finally we are calling out to the supportive members of the community who have shown long-term commitment to Heavycoin.  We'd like to hear from you on BitMessage if you have ideas for promoting Heavycoin and getting it accepted more places.  There's quite a bit of HVC in the Heavy Fund and this should be put to good use.  Committed members with good ideas and the time to contribute toward them will receive large bounties for meeting their targets.
