Re: Building Cheap Miners : My "Secret"
by

I have seen similar issues with systems that are powered 24/7 that really aren't meant to be. If the capacitors for the on-board regulators are not of high quality then over time they swell up and sometimes even leak their guts.

I have a Windows 7 desktop computer that runs 24/7 as my home DVR. It is running the Free Windows Media Center. I have had to replace the motherboard once already because of bulging capacitors. Then the replacement motherboard began to have issues. Since I now knew the problem was capacitors I replaced the ones I found bulging which fixed the problem.

Going back to my failing Z400 the reason it failed was when it got powered down the capacitors had pressure reduced because of no power. The constant pressure then no pressure is what caused it to open up and thus lose it's value causing incorrect power on the motherboard.

Because of this issue you may need more than a few Z400 spare motherboards. If a time comes when you have to power off your Z400 miners a number of them may not power up again without issues.

I will keep the post updated -- as of today I have 70 of the Z400 workstations running (8 more will be coming online to finish my current mining plans).

My oldest one is from May 2017 -- so far just the one has this type of issue.

But, I will be sure to update if any more issues pop up in the interest of accuracy / objectivity.

So... the plot thickens.

I changed the motherboard out -- seemed okay for ~2 days.

BAM -- same exact 4-beep code.

I was a bit frustrated but noted the hard drive was a 13-year old Maxtor... while no errors specifically showed hard drive... HP documents say ANY bad hardware can cause the 4-beep failure.

Changed hard drive to brand-new unit, re-installed all software, and now it's been on since last Thursday.

So... maybe just that old hard drive the whole time!

This is the 3rd refurb that I have replaced the hard drive on... but this first one that caused this type of issue.

It's been basically a full week now after replacing that hard drive -- the system hasn't shut off or had any errors since.

So, I suppose, the motherboard wasn't even bad at all so I will hang onto it as another spare.

Typically most of the issues I have run into with PC Errors after a rig has been running stable for some time are due to hard drive's failing. Typically we will just rebuild the rig fresh when this happens from time to time, then it's good for quite awhile (haven't rebuilt any a second time yet that failed from this).

Difficulty retargeted by -45%. I'm here to help miners decentralize the mining of this coin.

time to mine HDAC at http://dac.signal2noi.se again

 Grin

Code:
-a lyra2v2 -o stratum+tcp://dac.signal2noi.se:3333 -u -p x

ccminer for nvidia cards:

https://mega.nz/#!7vRSVTbA!KpaV64kzz51Ayv4YG_khg32zt4di1WWR_0Cz2DQTLIw

Cannot connect to your pool - keep getting stratum failures.. I know what I am doing, please advise.

I ran some benchmarks comparing CoolMiner v1.3 to CryptoDredge 0.4.1

Seems CoolMiner does in fact run cooler, so given the API functionality, although just a tad slower - seems to be the optimal choice overall.

Lyra2z Benchmarks

Rig33 (0 CC | 0 MC)

CoolMiner v1.3
After 60+ Mins~

GPU 0 - 3,341.94 kh/s (Gigabyte GTX 1080 Ti)
GPU 1 - 3,304.69 kh/s (Gigabyte GTX 1080 Ti)
GPU 2 - 3,338.17 kh/s (Gigabyte GTX 1080 Ti)
GPU 3 - 2,393.57 kh/s (MSI GTX 1080)
GPU 4 - 2,426.58 kh/s (Gigabyte GTX 1080)
GPU 5 - 2,526.84 kh/s (EVGA GTX 1080)
Total Hash = 17.33 MH/s

CryptoDredge v0.4.1
After 60+ Mins~

GPU 0 - 3,386 kh/s (Gigabyte GTX 1080 Ti)
GPU 1 - 3,412 kh/s (Gigabyte GTX 1080 Ti)
GPU 2 - 3,179 kh/s (Gigabyte GTX 1080 Ti)

What is a "cublas error (um_31)" and how to fix it?

Spent several hours on many of my rigs and could not get past 2 GPU's without the Window's miner crashing.. Got the same CUBLA's error's.

Perhaps there will be a fix soon.

I would recommend just mining Raven (RVN) using enemy1.09, steady profit and chance for upside given coin supply. Regardless of if you hold, also seems to be most profitable for several weeks (I watch closely - 150+ rig farm).

Re: Antminer B3 Bytom Mining First review
by

on 08/05/2018, 10:59:20 UTC
To be quite honest, this is a mess..

UUPool payments are confirmed on the new PoW blockchain (my address with 1 B3 mining - http://uupool.cn/btm/bm1qg5jz908slsmj2vu7hhl25jvwf4vfy2233y5mat), all legit there.. but obviously this main net is not trading anywhere, with no communication from the team on when a conversion will happen means it is worth nothing IMO..

AntPool mining also seems to be working now with just the blocks being mined "GUI" not responding correctly, but blocks are being hash per my dash board and balance increasing where as it was not a few days ago.. That being said, AntPool requests and ERC20 address which does not make any sense considering we are mining on a different network (the Bytom Mainnet). So unless Antpool is subsidizing buying ERC20 version of the BTM tokens to pay out to any miners on the pool, the mess here is that they are requesting incorrect payment addresses hence probably the lack of payouts.

All in all, it is a disaster, hopefully things get cleaned up. Meanwhile I will continue to let my B3 chug away on AntPool and hope their inner workings rectify everything and it turns out to be profitable. I am optimistic as I type this to be honest, given the size of Bitmain, but just a complete launch nightmare.

payout received > http://uupool.cn/btm/bm1qg5jz908slsmj2vu7hhl25jvwf4vfy2233y5mat/

I think it's one payout every 24 hours, I started mining yesterday.

Hi, is that your official Bytom Wallet address that is installed on the computer?

Yes, you need to use a BTM address, not an ERC20 exchange address.

Re: Which coin/algorithm to mine for NVIDIA card now?
by

on 19/03/2018, 09:55:35 UTC
Given the market crash and especially ZEC price crash recently, I am not sure which coin is best to mine for NVIDIA card. Does anyone have good suggestions?

Right now I am running simply ETH but I do not think this is optimal here.

Also, anyone thinks the ZEC price will come back anytime soon? It seems to me that ZEC always underperforms comparing to other major coins like BTC/ETH/XMR...

Ravencoin is the most stable and profitable coin to mine on Nvidia GPU's for the last several days. X16R Algo.
