if I clean up the cache of the browser, my wallet will be gone? I have a back up, what are the processes to restore the wallet from the backup?

There should be a little gear in the top right corner for settings. If you click on that and then Restore/Import on the list, there should be an option to import your .bin file.

Seems quiet here, people still like this coin?
There are still a lot of projects building on or using the platform, but many of them use different venues for issuing updates. One place to check is beyond bitcoin show and hangout. Several these projects like block pay and peerage issue weekly updates there.

Credibility of developers is definitely important. For me I also look a the tech their project is being built on. If I am a big fan of the tech and it seems like they are making interesting changes(addressing new market or taking different approach to solve a problem) then I will be more interested.

They are not actually that easy to get. Where I live there is a two week waiting period for background check unless you have a permit(which requires the same check to have already happened, in addition to a class and registering at various police stations).

I had heard that the date for Christmas was picked because it was the date of one of the major pagan holidays. Thus getting people to convert would be easier.

It would be interesting to see if a black market develops. As long as the tokens are transferrable, then people can trade them, but it would reduce the activity quite a bit. Another interesting note is that steem tried something  similar where tokens were locked up for a year(on average) and they ended up shortening that period because it was a deterrent for some would be investors.

Re: U.S. citizens getting more stupid and psychopathic by the year
by
lafona
on 15/12/2016, 03:53:50 UTC
It seems.  What is the problem here?  Why so many are stupid, jealous, psychopathic, childish.  Not sure when this became OK and the norm in our society, country is turning into a shit heap.

" Why so many are stupid, jealous, psychopathic, childish." it's like you're talking about the left libtards in America. Where when they dont get what they want, they scream and cry little little children. So this sentance you wrote, describes them 100%.

"country is turning into a shit heap." well since there are safe zones on campuses and various stupid shit like that, no wonder people voted for Trump aka God Emperor, people are tired of the retarded left.

To be fair, I think certain members of both sides act in this way. Examples of the right-wing electorate acting in this way could be things like screaming about gay marriage, non-christian temples being erected in their vicinity, taxes on oil and gasoline, importation of foreign goods (even though they may be half the price of the same goods in America) etc.

I think the problem is, the supporters of both sides (Hilary vs Trump) have become so polarized that we only see the extreme aspects of each side. This results in people on the right being branded as "racists/bigots" and people on the left branded as "snowflakes/commies", even when these individuals have valid arguments.

Similar thing happened in the UK with Brexit, people who wanted to leave were branded as racists because they wanted control over immigration, and remainers were branded as ignorant pussies who were happy to let "muslim rapist refugees" enter their country. Similar problem, where instead of addressing people's arguments directly and intelligently, they are insulted, polarising the electorate more and more.

It's also worth noting that the most extreme comments tend to come from a small minority of individuals, whereas the majority are much less extreme on both sides. I think this is becasue the media like to propagate the extreme stories more than the others, to make more money - an unavoidable result of free press, capitalism and a lot of dumb people who lap it all up...

Yeah it is unfortunate how the media benefits from and emphasizes the differences between the two parties. I think the election system itself is partially to blame as well. It seems that the moderates are always lost in the primaries and by the time we get to the election we are left with two extremes. A lot of people I talked to were dissappointed with the options for the election and unfortunately the way the system is set up, you take a big risk by voting for a third party.

Re: Steemit.com: Blogging is the new Mining

it will be changed to equihash? where can i mine this?

Switch to equihash is on December 6 (but 3 second blocks are friendly to solo mining)

So far it is only solo mining using the node software, which you have to compile yourself. Get from https://github.com/steemit/steem. There might be some mining guides upthread or if not then definitely on the previous thread.

vow i didnt know that you could mine steemit ,till now i was wondering what a bullshit way to earn some coins is to keep on writing threads and making people view yours ,if you have a tutors regarding the solo mining it would be more than helpful for noobs like me .

Yes, you can mine to get a chance to be included as a witness. Unfortunately, this has been dominated by two people for months. I'm not sure a change in the algo is going to change this domination. We'll see.
no pools to mine it?
Currently there are none. Mined steem is locked up initially for an average of 1.5 months, which may make it difficult for pools to operate. Although, it is shorter than the prefork average of 1 year.

I'm surprised that Sia (https://sia.tech/) has not been mentioned more often. Its high inflation rate and the high Bitcoin price are probably the reasons why the price for Sia was falling so much lately.

But nevertheless, Sia is one of the few coins that has a working technology today. It's the most advanced decentralized cloud storage platform out there. The software is running smoothly and the devs are working hard on improving the user experience and finding new customers and use cases. Minebox (https://minebox.io/) will be one of the first applications to use the Sia platform for their NAS boxes.

I am super excited about this.

Did any of you guys hear about the followmyvote voting on blockchain idea? It seemed like it could helped with both voting and polling, things this election could have used better options for. It seems rediculous that there is no option to vote via the internet.

@Riverhead: nice to see you here posting. You actually have two posts here on this thread, which is exactly 50% of all your posts on Bitcointalk in last 3 years! Smiley. You don't seem to be very talkative (at least here on BCT), so such number of posts here show your genuine interest in this project Smiley

As a valued member of Steem and Bitshares community, I think you would be very welcome here too, but could you please explain those "james/morden/moonscape/nexus-dev/riverhead" multiaccount games resulting in pushing everyone else out of witness list? This is not a behaviour one would expect from a friendly and helpful community member...  Undecided

Thanks for the welcome Smiley.

There's nothing wrong with running multiple witnesses in DPOS and in fact it happens on all of them including Bitshares 1&2, Steem, Muse, and Moonstone-dac. Graphene is a completely transparent chain so it's trivial to follow proxy chains and created by records to figure out who is who. Naturally there are ways to create truly anonymous accounts but deception was never my intent. The dev said there would be 500 slots so I figured no harm no foul. Turns out there was only 11.

Here is a breakdown of the accounts:

James/Riverhead - Mine.

Morden - My curator on Steem that wanted to try his hand at being a witness since he has no chance of getting in on Steem, Muse, or Bitshares. New project new opportunities for new people Smiley.

Moonscape - Account created for Roadscape - a frontend dev for Steemit and creator of steemd.com. I haven't spoken with him yet so he has not been voted on. I could have left it as a non witness account but honestly I wasn't expecting this level of scrutiny this early on lol.

nexus-dev - Created for Nikolai (toast) who has joined our Slack and was a core dev for Bitshares and currently runs Nexus Development which is the core dev team on Makerdao - an Ethereum based stable coin project.

Moonstone-dac is a cool project with a lot of potential addressing one of the primary complaints of Bitshares 2.0: inflation. Inviting some experienced people in the space can only help this project reach the potential we're all hoping for. Bonus if he gets the EVM ported Smiley.

Do you think the issue was too much inflation or too little? 6 months or so ago the attitude was pretty anti inflation but that seems to have lessened some.

I think the problem is that people believe that all Trump supporters agree with him 100%. In truth many didn't vote for him because he was crass or rude but because he said he would help them out. IMO people voted that way because they just wanted their jobs back, not because they wanted someone offensive.

I think the the future of steem will largely depend on growth of its userbase. If it is regularly getting more eyeballs on its content, then the value should increase. The community seems committed to trying new and crazy ideas to get new users and keep them engaged.

Yeah that's what socialism does in a country. I'm expecting a lot of "real socialism/communism hasn't been tried yet, this wasn't REAL socialism"
Yeah it is unfortunate that different countries keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again.
