At the time of his message he claimed only 0.5 BTC worth of 42 was missing. At the time 42 was 1200 so that would be 0.00041600 that was lost, but still on the backup (according to his story). I have a feeling it was more than that since I alone was missing about 0.00006500 (I mined that much in about 8 hours, because Diff was very low then) My auto payout never triggered. And I tried manually paying out minutes before the server went down this is how I know my balance. I have no other proof other than what I'm saying happen.
His server returned with all are accounts deleted and he said to make a new account.
I'm sure others where missing as much as me this is why I believe he probably owes about about 1 or 2 BTC (I do not know though how much total) I know I was only about 2% of the pools hash rate that night. I don't really want to be paid back unless he pays everyone back. I'm not putting this information out here like this to everyone's attention so he can pay me and then have me muzzled. I have seen at less 5 other people in this thread claiming to loose funds as well. And I'm sure plenty others that don't have accounts on this forum. I simple want him to pay everyone back with his restored backup. If he continues to dodge the question I just vote the pool is removed from the recommend list, that all I'm trying to accomplish here.

I will go back to see if I can find those posts but it would be easier for anyone else reporting similar claims to comment back now.
I initially mined from pooljunkies. I started a couple of hours after the release of the coin and mined for at least 4+ hours on this pool, if I remember correctly.
I signed back up with my original credentials after they announced their hacking issue, as they recommended people do so.
I waited a while (while doing further mining on dedicatedpool), hoping for further news.
After no further word (aside from a couple of vague updates), I sent a support message to pooljunkies from my new account. I received not a single reply, despite having sent that message days ago.
At this point, given their lack of communication, others experiences on this forum, and my mining experience with them, I have to put pooljunkies in the scam category. I am completely sympathetic to sysops when it comes to running a pool, so I don't levy a scam charge lightly - quite simply, absolutely nothing that pooljunkies has communicated with this forum makes me believe they are legitimate.
As of now, I absolutely consider them to be a scam or, at best, not forthcoming with regard to the original hack. I would love for them to explain themselves and make things right, and if they do so, I will retract my complaint. But, I don't expect this to happen.
I used to like cryptsy the best but now I like coinex.pw the best. It would be amazing to get it on cryptsy.

I've been enjoying coinex. Much faster interface than cryptsy so far. Of course, we'll see if that remains the case as coinex becomes becomes popular. So far so good, though.
LTC miners dreamed of 4 USD/LTC a months ago. But it is 48 USD actually 
Well, it flirted with $48 very briefly in November (http://www.cryptocoincharts.info/period-charts.php?period=3-months&resolution=day&pair=ltc-usd&market=btc-e), but it is only ~$24 at the moment (after recently recovering from the $16 range).

Pools often seem to default to the LTC/USD price (haven't researched why, just noticed that it always seems to happen). Currently, the BTC-E price is $23.68 USD per LTC, just $0.02 from the price you saw on happyminers.

I imagine a good way to learn is to find substantial forks from either the bitcoin source (https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin) or litecoin source (https://github.com/litecoin-project/litecoin).
This is something I am interested in as well. At the very least, I'd like to look at the full commit history of a coin that was forked from another coin (which is, basically, every coin aside from bitcoin). A number of alt coins don't contain this history, but I am sure some of them do. Anyone have an example of the full fork commit history of an alt coin?

To add to what DarkStar said, make sure to be careful with downloading wallets. A common scam is for someone to post a link to an alt coin wallet that contains malware that can steal your bitcoins/litecoins/etc. For an established alt coin, make sure to use the official wallet download. For new alt coins, download the wallet in a sand-boxed environment (vm, etc), or wait until the coin is better established.
Also, with an offline wallet, you'll want to encrypt it. Preferably, the encryption password should be generated and stored in a password safe (KeePass, etc). That safe should be backed up somewhere offsite (don't want to lose access to your wallet just because you lost your password safe). And, finally, that offline wallet should itself be backed up offsite.
Of course, how much of the above you actually need to do depends on the value of your coins. Only have a couple satoshi? Unnecessary. Have a couple thousand bitcoins? Then, the above is not enough. Context is important.

I've had good experiences with Protoshares and Primecoin for profitable CPU mining. Quark, of course, is no longer very profitable for CPU mining.

Basically, transferring to/from yuan/bitcoin suddenly became much more difficult. And, due to bitcoin's previous run up in price being due to China, this was a blow to the speculators.

Cryptsy has been ok for me so far. Once I've deposited coins, the trades seem to occur just fine. What I like is that they are US based (https://www.cryptsy.com/pages/about) so, in theory, there is some accountability if things go wrong.
That said, sometimes it takes a very long time for deposits to show up and go from pending to complete. And, the site can be rather slow at times.
I've also used BTC-E and they've been ok as well. However, they are located in Bulgaria and have no known physical address. I wouldn't store a significant portion of your assets there for that reason alone (of course, this is good advice regardless of the exchange).
