Totally understood. I posted a link in Scam Accusations to this thread.

And I agree -- there's tons of great, non-scams here! Unfortunately, this scammer has posted multiple scam threads here under different names and is locking their thread/deleting scam reports when people post them.

I don't want legit buyers/sellers to get caught up in this persons scam network of accounts. It'd be a lot easier of sellers couldn't delete reports from their threads. How are you supposed to do research of the seller can delete anything negative?

Has any of you been able to successfully compile namecoind on ubuntu/linux? I got the code off of bluishcoder.com's website.

This is what I get when running the following command:

make -f makefile.unix USE_UPNP=

Code:
root@enemsi:~/namecoin# make -f makefile.unix USE_UPNP=
g++ -c -O2 -Wno-invalid-offsetof -Wformat -g -D__WXDEBUG__ -DNOPCH -DFOURWAYSSE2 -DUSE_SSL -o obj/nogui/util.o util.cpp
In file included from util.cpp:5:0:
headers.h:43:20: fatal error: db_cxx.h: No such file or directory
compilation terminated.
make: *** [obj/nogui/util.o] Error 1

What is db_cxx.h and where do I get it? I tried looking around and can't seem to find it. Any help is appreciated!

db_cxx.h is included with the berkeleydb dev tools. Just install version 4.6-4.8 and update your include paths and There's a package that includes this that you can install with apt-get, I just forget the name off the top of my head.

Re: [Announce] NamecoinUs - Public DNS, Inline Proxy, Whois Server

Thanks!

Since the us govt is the one who seizes the most domains though, why did you pick the us domain to run it from?  Would it make sense to at least offer another tld just in case?

When I was looking for domains, it was the cheapest namecoin.* domain, so I grabbed it. You're right, I need to get it on more domains for sure. I have namecoin.ch and just added it to my list of things to get done. The DNS servers are already distributed around the world so they should always be reachable by IP and they should always fulfill the request.

Or is the idea that if the government shuts it down, it would already have sites people wanted to see, and show the problem more clearly and get people to change to resolve the .bit root directly?

The second part you mentioned I never really thought of, but the irony would be noteworthy for sure. Does anyone know of what kind of legal challenges similar services (like dyndns, noip, etc) have had and how they deal with takedowns?

Namecoin Us is a *tiny* sliver of the overall namecoin community. Even if some authority comes after namecoin.us/ch (soon  Grin), there are MANY other ways to resolve that domain. In the end, no one can touch a namecoin domain except the person with the correct wallet.dat -- which is the ultimate goal.

Amazing idea! Keep up the great work!

Thanks!

It's a great idea, but unfortunately it doesn't work when a .bit site uses vhosts. I don't know if this is used by a large % of the hosted domains, but at least for me it's 100%
The .bit sites need to add a vhost entry for theirsite.namecoin.us. Some of them have done this, but yes, it's a pain.

That's why he has done a proxy too, with theirsite.bit.namecoin.us which works with all .bit domains.

That sounds shockingly high from my experience. Maybe someone else can chime in and tell us just exactly how much a new user should expect to consume bandwidth wise when first joining Bitcoin?
