Can't Withdraw from BTC-e
by

I tried withdrawing my bitcoins from BTC-e and it sends me an email asking for confirmation by clicking on a link.
When I click on the link it takes me to a page with what looks like an error - some red writing, looks like Russian.

Anyone else had this happen?

Had to stay up all night to reasearch any possible solution. My conclusion is that btc-e just needs to refresh or rescan or update my wallet. Just wish they would respond.

Try making a very small transaction - say 0.1 BTC to your BTC-e account.  Perhaps this will refresh the wallet.

All good now - they refunded the cash to my wallet and the transaction disappeared.

Re: Gui miner for Bitcoin and Litecoin

cpu mining any coin currently is 1 waste of time 2 waste of energy. Ull be lucky to pull 0.001 or even less of an Litecoin using cpu to mine with. If you using multi cpu ie x4 x6 x8 or i7 etc then still it will be very low amounts you generate.

If you want to see your profitability look up your mining speed on here http://dustcoin.com/mining This will give you an indication on how much coin and $ you are making

Thanks, really useful Smiley

Re: Anyone have local bitcoin experience?

I bought some coins on localbitcoin by bank transfer - almost the same price as on mtgox (probably cheaper if you count all the fees for currency conversion etc.)

Buying in person seems much more expensive for some reason - not sure why though. Anyone any idea?

Economists think they know it all
by

I'm fed up of reading articles like this...
http://pandodaily.com/2013/04/10/great-now-engineers-think-that-they-are-economists-too-2/

...where some haughty financial expert is poo-pooing the idea of bitcoins because they're not a real currency (and they were unlucky enough to miss the wave).  What the author of this article and so many others fail to realise is that bitcoins serve another important service other than facilitating trade.  The main point of bitcoins, in my opinion, is a place to store your money where governments and other people who may try to take your money, can't easily get to it.  It can't be taxed, it can't be easily devalued and it's pretty hard to steal (unlike a car or other physical asset).  For these reasons, it serves a purpose and thus will keep it's value. As for being doomed for defalation(rtfa), that can only be a good thing for investors wanting to put their money in a safe place.  And yes of course it will be worthless if people loose faith in it, but that could be said of gold or virtually anything else.  The difference is gold has been around a lot longer and people trust it.  However, I see bitcoins as being better - as I've already described, they have advantages that other investments do not, so ultimately I see them replacing gold.
