I'm one of the "Reddit guys", stoking up some fires over there, and only bought into PETAMINE today. I you guys are right... change the pool and MARKET MARKET MARKET. And maybe even move the next IPO up if at all practically possible.

In sales you have to strike while the iron is hot! Smiley

Happy to be here!

I think with CFD you only allow trades between two users.  The house never takes a position.  When the contract ends or a margin call occurs the loser's margin is transferred to the winner.

In theory yes. However there have been cases of less than ethical houses front-running against their own clients. Think about it - they know about the price changes before their exchange platform uses it. (because they just get the exchange rate from MtGox like everyone else).

On the flip side if they do run a ethical exchange, why not write your own bot, and set it up on a server in Japan. You'll get the price change information first and can potentially outsmart your competition on their exchange. Cheesy

Ok, how about an actual wall chart again. This is the most "balanced" I've seen the walls on both sides for a long time. Pretty deep depth, but also pretty evenly spread out.

Re: Banks trying to pull the rug from under us

I think the interim solution is going to be something like the Bitcoin ATM, or physical kiosks and shops selling BTC *for cash*. No dramas about bank accounts or lots of deposits and payments.

Just work in cash. It's how people for example buy prepaid phone credit. The infrastructure already exists - you just need to make a good business case to these shops (typical 7/11 etc).

good. banks tied to exchanges just make things traceable.

Want to buy BTC? sell a physical good to someone that has it. Want to sell btc? buy a physical good. Fuck the banks.

good, but not everyone are miners, how can you sell something to a non miner if he can't get bitcoins?

You think the $1,000,000,000+ market cap is all just miners?

Re: In the long run, bitcoin will be worth $0.

In the long run, everything will be worth $0.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_death_of_the_universe

Theres no proof that theory is valid though, big bang is a myth. There are quasars with massive red shift in front of nearby galaxies.

There has never been a paper / fiat currency which didn't eventually fail. The average fiat lifespan is 30-50 years before it hyper-inflates and go bust. (exact average depends which source you believe - google it).

The US Dollar is overdue. And in the long term that will also be worth 0 whatever else (Yuan, Euro, Shells, BTC?)

So what exactly was OP's point here? Yeah - all currencies eventually go to 0. Civilizations come and go. Does it mean we should just abandon the whole concept of money and return to barter?

Yeah that 120 wall is looking good. I just bought more at 117 (BTC-E). Hopefully we don't see double digits shortly.  Smiley

I am a bit confused by the latest sell off.   Everyone can't make money on these swings, and I would bet that most lose it.   So why do they keep trying?   It's not like there has been any kind of bad news to induce selling, and we all know how much people will be willing to sell for on Monday or Tuesday.   I can't figure out why so many want to sell at the current low.

when your sitting on big profit ( and a lot of people are including me... ), you have a choice

take a risk 100% of your profits and hold
secure profits, and have a chance to buy back in cheap and do it all again.

Yeah, it doesn't look like "selling selling", more like profit taking at the moment. Yes both are selling, but the intent is different.

Put 99% of your bitcoins in cold storage eg. a non-network connected eeepc or something with Armory installed. And live safe in the knowledge that only 1% of your coins are at risk in your normal hot wallet on your normal use PC - use these for small purchases etc. You can still do large purchases from your cold wallet by spending an extra 2 minutes signing the transaction off-line with a usb stick, and considering it'll take way longer than that for the transaction to confirm in any case it's not a big deal.

With some googling you'll find plenty of tutorials on how to do this.

Re: PayPal president interested in bitcoin

He talks about being a funding option. So really they'll just be a bitcoin exchange of sorts. The real big deal here is Ebay!

Here's they chain: BTC -> Fund Paypal -> Buy on Ebay

That's where the real benefit for Bitcoin lies - Paypal is merely a transactional vehicle.

Also - it's easy to think that "Oh anyone can open a paypal account". This might be true in America, Europe and Australia, but in relatively well-connected countries like South Africa, India and China you can not easily open a Paypal account - due to funding regulations etc. Suddenly if you can fund via bitcoin, these problems go away and Paypal just doubled their potential user base with almost zero additional administrative effort. No fraudulent or reversible fundings.

I think you're missing an important point.

Yes, a lot of the bitcoin believers as you call them are hoarding and saving now. But as those bitcoins gain in value people are going to want to start spending them. For instance when BTC hits $1000 or above you can bet people want to start spending and buying luxuries with their new-found wealth. And all that value is already in BTC. Also the spenders would prefer staying in BTC and transacting directly rather than having to convert to USD and then having to answer awkward questions from the IRS etc.

So as a merchant, why would you not try and establish a foothold now in what is surely going to be a very profitable newly wealthy class of consumers?

Re: 40 dollar rally, not bad for 24 hours of "work"
by

on 25/04/2013, 00:20:35 UTC
I made a little profit today by selling at $160, but I'm not really a good daytrader because I bought back in at $155 already. I just play too much on the safe side and am afraid to miss the boat even though my intuition is usually correct. Still the call to sell was good, just have to have the balls to set lower bid orders during the next correction. Smiley

I did that alot during last years continoues rise. It mostly didnt work, because Bitcoin just didnt want to go down!
So I missed the boat a couple of times and ma, had I just kept the initial amount I bought at first I would so much more Bitcoin in my wallet right now, its ridiculous (and thats probably mispspelled!).

So right now I just hold on to my coins, dont mind those little dips and try to sell on the top or dead cat bounce of this bubble's next top because I know it will go up till the next bubble bursts, then head down for a while.
Thats what I call playing "safe" right now, because this market is just too unpredictable to make a steady profit otherwise.

+1 this. "Day trading" off the volatility is intelligent gambling at best. For every person whose "gut was right" and made money there's someone who got it wrong. And even though the winners will disagree, it was all just mostly luck riding the random walk.

If you believe in bitcoin, then just hold into your coins. And to lock in profits just selling into the strength from time to time.

I literally freaked out when the market crashed today, fortunately it came back. Next time I might not be so lucky.

What crash today??

In any case - what about property? (as in real estate)

edit: just realized you were probably not talking about the bitcoin market crashing!  Cheesy
