So, looks like the pool and site are all down. Any word on that?

If people could help us mine to get to block 33,000 so the lower difficulty kicks in that would really be appreciated.

Am FTC pool can be found at   https://fc.dontmine.me
or if you prefer p2pool like I do http://91.121.142.166:19327

Yeah seriously. Transactions are taking forever with FTC right now. I tossed literally every CPU/GPU I have at mining last night. Block confirms are moving tortuously slow.

ed: On the pool I'm mining on right now, I'm sitting on ~5000 unpaid shares or more. Really want that lower difficulty.

bitcoin and other alt currencies reward early adapters/miners as price increases. those who missed BTC windfall, are now betting on LTC while it's relatively cheap hoping for an increase down the line. FTC and others on the horizon. early adapter = money in your pocket. the only person who makes more money is the creator of an alt coin. it just makes good sense ... if you start your own coin, you're guaranteed to make money (even if it fails after 2 wks, 2 months, .. 2 yrs). as long as this is the case, I think we'll continually see more and more alt coins. I don't see an end in sight.

See, you just described a Ponzi Scheme nearly perfectly. Ponzi schemes are illegal as hell, hence why people call coins designed to solely benefit the creator and the earliest adopters a scam.

I'd post on this other thread to ask this, but can't as I'm limited to the newbie section:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=186539.0

I had mined with that pool when mining FTC was worthwhile, and had 11 FTC "stuck" in there, as the pool only pays out above 20. So I set about mining again just to get up to 20. The pool found two blocks in fairly rapid succession, which would have taken me up to 31 FTC but both are now showing as invalid:
http://fc.ltcoin.net/blocks.php

Is there any way to see if this is real info, i.e. did the pool really find those blocks and they became invalid in some way, or is it just a scam to keep people mining for free in the hope of reaching 20 FTC to be able to cash out? If it's definitely a scam and I'm never going to get the FTC I have in there, obviously I'm better off doing something else with my GPU time and electricity.

I had a similar issue with the "lol just kidding you can't cash out until 20 FTC now!" thing on that same pool. I PMed the guy running it last night I believe and asked him to just pay me the balance i had on the pool, and I just got the incoming payment notice. So try that.

It's hard to call it an outright scam, when it seems to be just a terribly, terribly run pool with awful documentation. Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by incompetence, I guess.

The King is dead, long live the King. Coinking that is, a new cryptocurrency I've just made up.  Grin

I had written a comedy press release in another thread for MugabeCoins, the hyperinflationary crypto-coin, but it got deleted. Comedy is a dead art.

Most of these people are not doing mining because they want the difficulty to be lower...

http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Pump-and-dump

Honestly, that about sums up 90% of the stuff people are doing with coins.

If I have an active miner, and I just terminate the miner program (so I can go back to LTC) I wouldn't lose the work shares I've done on my pool, right? Only if I delete the miner from the pool itself via the website.

Anyone help me out on that?

So am I correct in assuming that without activity in terms of trading, and people fleeing the mining of FTC, the confirmations of mined blocks and confirmations of transactions is going to just take forever now? Because that'd explain why I'm not getting my coins.

Recommend me mining pools for LTC/FTC! (newbie mining zone itt)

So if you're like me, and new to crypto-currencies, the choice of pools to join is pretty overwhelming and confusing. Just one look at the alt-currency forum and you'll see dozens of threads for people's various pools for various currencies. There are also just as many posts and threads accusing various pools of being "scams" or other such fun. So I decided we should probably have a central-ish thread for pool information.

Personally, I'm mining Litecoin and Feathercoin. I tend to stick to one pool at a time (mostly because I only know of a few and go with the website that's built most competently) so I'm absolutely willing to see what else is out there and share my own experience.

For LTC, I use http://www.give-me-ltc.com. I do really like it, despite 2% pool fee. What I'm a huge fan of is their huge range of mirrors and the fact they use really common ports (like 80 for the donors server, 8080, 443, etc) which allows me to keep mining with my laptop while I'm on my school's campus. My campus only has 80, 8080, 443 and one other port open on the WiFi so that's really convenient.

For FTC I'm using http://feathercoin.is-a-geek.com. Its also pretty nice, however automatic payout seems to be broken. It doesn't use the nice ports that Give-Me-LTC does so I'm more limited as to miners. I've just been using my desktop to mine FTC and its worked out pretty well. But, as I said, automatic payment seems to be broken. I have it set to pay at 1.1 FTC but my account is sitting there with nearly 3 FTC. I'm really reluctant to manual pay and lose 0.1 FTC. I also have a huge pile (4600+) shares yet to be paid. Not that I have a real solid grasp on what that MEANS but still.

I would recommend avoiding http://fc.ltcoin.net, Dig Feathercoin. First pool I used for FTC and I'm stuck with 2 FTC on that account, and it seems that there is no manual payout. There's a button for it, but its gray and not clickable. So I'm kinda curious how to get my money off that and in my wallet.

So post your favorite pools, the currency it mines, why you love it, etc! Or general advice for new users new to mining. I'll add an effort-post later about mining software for scrypt based coins.

With the news that Mt.Gox is going to be supporting Litecoin shortly, you might want to consider holding onto your Litecoin.  There is a big chance that price could spike in a very large way once it's listed.

As for Feathercoin's, convert them to BTC or LTC if you don't want to risk big losses.

This is what I'm banking on.

Sigh. If only I had a decent stock pile of LTC...

I am currently holding only BTC, LTC and FRC (but FRC not for long if they don't change their Diff. algo. soon).
All other coins, if I mine them at all, I exchange quickly for BTC/LTC.

For exchanges, I mainly use vircurex and bter.
If you want to change back to fiat you might give bitstamp a look depending on where in the world you are located.

I'm concerned about various exchanges security, given how frequently MtGox gets hacked (I really don't care if they say "IT WAS DDoS!!" until they're blue in the face, I know for a fact their security is absolute ass). I just set up a Vircurex account, which seems to be a decent interface. Does anyone have any sort of feedback on the security of some of these exchanges?

I'm also waiting on a PM response from the owner of my FTC pool, because I'm sitting on about 3+ FTC that haven't paid out yet, and I have my automatic payout threshold set to 1.1 FTC. I also have damn near 5,000 shares that are unpaid so far. I'm using http://feathercoin.is-a-geek.com if it matters/anyone is curious.

Any recommendations on exchanges to convert FTC?

I honestly have about ~0.5 LTC and a handful of FTC at this point, so it's really small time stuff.

Profitability of Feathercoin and Litecoin

I've only recently gotten into mining these two, and not to a great extent. Mainly just screwing with it using my gaming computer, so I'm not running a dedicated mining rig. I'm using parts and computers that I've found laying around to run CPU miners and such. Taking the minimal amount of input to maximize output.

I'm just not sure about the profitability, and in the case of FTC, it's stability or longevity. I'm just mainly looking to get some insight on those, and what the best pools are. I'm currently using give-me-ltc.com and feathercoin.is-a-geek.com as my mining pools.

I'm getting the distinct feeling that Feathercoin is a waste of time as far as alt-coins go. Anyone have any sort of opinions on that?
