The forum might be cracking down more on illegal digital goods for sale, since a week or two ago there was a thread here in the meta section where a user claimed to receive a PM from theymos telling him that the forum received a DMCA for his thread (which was selling Microsoft keys illegally) and because of that, had to remove it. I suspect the forum would rather not receive more DMCA's like that, so that could be part of the reason.

Couldn't have said that better myself. A good hardware wallet is so much easier to use for coin storage than the most secure offline transaction signing computer is. It might be a good idea to store large amounts of bitcoin in secure, offline paper wallets, but a good hardware wallet is a great solution for storing a reasonable chunk of your bitcoins for easy and secure access.

According to this calculator, on average (at the current difficulty) you'd generate a block every 41134 days (112.7 years). You're probably better off putting that hashrate on a pool and earning small amounts every month from mining, it looks like you'd be able to make about 0.02 BTC per month (before power) pool mining bitcoin.

That's not a bad idea. It would ensure that they're truly going to people who are interested in owning them (since they'd be willing to pay so much for them) rather than whoever is able to refresh their browser page quick enough to place an order for one of the twenty units. They'd definitely be a great novelty item for a bitcoin fanatic.

You're correct. I don't think a Bitcointalk account can every be fully deleted, but if a user decides to delete all their posts, remove all information from their profile, and then change their email and password to something random, that's the closest they'll get to completely removing their account from the site. In fact, some users used to offer a service dedicated to securely "deleting" Bitcointalk accounts.

Can you give us any price estimation for those last twenty units? Will they be priced similarly to a normal Trezor, or go for the 3 BTC or so that molecular estimated the early ones sold for? I suspect it'll be the second option, but we can always hope.

I don't really agree with your idea either. Another way to look at pay-per-post campaigns is that participants aren't required to meet a certain post threshold per week or month. If a user participates in a paid per post campaign with no post requirements, then there's no pressure on them to meet minimum post counts every week or month. On the flipside, if users are forced to make a certain number of posts for their campaign, and they don't usually make that many posts, chances are good they'll start posting crap posts just to get paid for their posts and meet campaign minimum requirements.

Looks down from my end as well. This isn't the first time this week I've been having issues with Preev either. A few days ago I was trying to look at the price of bitcoin in currencies other than USD, and it just wouldn't load for me, regardless of what network I was on (Wi-Fi or cellular).

Another suggestion for watching the bitcoin price would be Bitcoin Wisdom as well - it gives a lot more information than Preev, plus you can see the prices at various different exchanges.

Don't go around doxxing random people with the same name as him. Unless you have any proof of that being the PBMining operator I'd suggest removing that dox to protect the innocent.

What makes you think he's in Serbia right now? I think Interpol might be a poor choice to report his crimes to, since I suspect they're focused on much larger targets. SweetLou might be worth looking into though - it's possible he was in on the scam, but it's also very possible that he was dragged into this, and didn't know he was developing a website for a scammer when he was initially developing it.

0.01 BTC for his account might be too generous. It's not even a Member rank account yet (it looks like they sell for < 0.01 BTC as of recently) plus the post quality is extremely poor.

Another option you'd have is to try and get some professional help recovering your wallet. I've heard good things about Wallet Recovery Services, and from reading through their site a bit, it looks like there might be a possibility of cracking your wallet password, since you know what the pattern of the password was like. Obviously since it was a very complex password, there's a slim chance that they'll be able to recover it, but I suspect they'd have more experience with recovering wallets than you would.

If you're not interested in that, then I'd say to give up on trying to brute-force your password. With a password that's 30 characters or more, with uppercase/lowercase/numbers/characters, you won't be cracking it anytime soon. You'd probably have better luck trying to find the original paper with your password on it.

I think those are probably all just WHOIS-guard addresses, so I don't think you should assume he is running all of those sites solely from the WHOIS address. The more likely story is that all of those sites are using the same domain registrar, or that the domain registrars for all of those domains are using the same WHOIS guard.

Well a great example of a lot of Newbie loan requests for ridiculous amounts of bitcoin and no collateral was when ManyProofs was around giving out loans up the yin-yang. That REALLY clogged up the Lending board. I'm not sure if he was loaning out BTC to alts of himself or if he was really giving out huge amounts of money to Newbie scammers, but eitherway it made it tough to sort through and look for valid loan requests.

Good to hear that this one scammer has been banned, but it doesn't look like links from the fake Bitcointalk are being blocked yet. I agree with whywefight; this site should be added to the list of links that are automatically removed by the forum when they're posted.

I don't think limiting them from the Goods section would be a "good" idea. Sure, there are lots of Newbie members who are here to scam (it seems more often than not a Newbie is trying to scam), but there are new members here are well who are genuinely interested in purchasing or selling something. If users use escrow when dealing with Newbie members, they're covered pretty well. Currency Exchange and Lending might be something to think about though, especially the Lending section. I'm not sure I've ever seen a legitimate loan request from a Newbie member (legitimate as in having valid collateral).
