headstart: we're planning small release this weekend.
Fun stuff: there will be hard fork at block 32768. It would actually be good if not everyone would update, just to observe the fork Smiley

P.S. Not sure if you've noticed, but there's a small cool feature in block explorer thanks to freigeist

Is this the NEM block explorer?

Yes.

Nice progress!

Just getting caught up - besides the 6-stake sock puppet issue, which seems to be minor, or at least to have passed - why is the price going down? Is there anything else depressing it, or was that it?

Our price falls along with the NXT price as NEMStake is exclusively traded on the NXT AE and it's value is determined in NXT.

Question becomes:
Why price of NXT is falling?

Alt prices are falling

Is there still debate over the logo?

Here is a quick concept, nothing flash by all means, but simple!  Cheesy

Please check out http://forum.nemcoin.com/index.php?topic=2228.15 for logo discussion Smiley

We really appreciate the effort. It is exciting to see people come forth with ideas!

Are we migrating to the nemcoin forum ?

Downtrend or not, how low do oyu seriously think it will go?

I think $550 is as low as it gets. And even that was much lower than i ever expected it to be.

Looking at the selling pressure today, I really would not rule out breaking 550. We might very well test the green support line that pftq was drawing a few posts ago. It is currently around 520. If 520 would not hold, there is not much technical support until 440.

But I hope 550 holds fine and we rebound now.

While $550 seems the "right" value for the correction, I guess the downtrend will continue until the auction closes so it can break the $500 line before rebound

Maybe what Gimre really meant was:

Alpha: testnet

Beta: most likely REAL thing

This makes sense as I remember reading posts saying the beta will be the 'launch'. Hopefully our mutual confusion will be cleared up by a dev.

Alpha = 100% testnet and monopoly money. Beta = Likely to be in the testnet for the first phase and then move to the main-net (with real stake and coins). It is still undecided whether nemesis block is on launch day or in beta. It doesn't make much difference imo.

NEM Beta will include some special features. Even NEM open Alpha will likely include special features that are not in other coin's launch. For example: NIS codes for secure messaging have been completed and just need GUI to be on Open Alpha. Secure messaging is not even in Nxt NOW 9 month after the coin launch. Talk about the difference between one system's alpha and the other system's so-call advanced stage.

NEM beta will include features that have never been in any other system. What are they ? We cannot tell you because the codes are not completed and there are some uncertainty in the implementation. However, there will be at least one special feature moving from NEM Alpha to NEM Beta.

Amazing work. I noticed that there's a lot of useful updates on facebook page that does a nice job keeping the good expectations for nem. Kudos for the team.

very optimistic. so all the stakeholders are worth half a million USD now

Exactly. Some people are naive and like to image to be rich without hard work and bumpy road. Wake up!

What people need to realize that even if they are rich in cryptos it doesn't mean they are rich in fiat. At least not at this point. Until you can pay your rent, food  and everything you need everyday with cryptos you'll always have to go through exchanges to get to fiat. What do you think would happen if all of a sudden 3000 people try to cashout 500k USD ? Exactly...noone get's squat.

NEM isn't supposed to make anyone rich quickly. It's supposed to be a better BTC that will actually be capable of replacing fiat (because btc isn't) hopefully at some point in the future. That's what seperates us from shitcoins. We have a goal beyond releasing a coin and hiting some exchanges.

Well said. Although I do expect some financial return from my NEM investment, I invested in NEM because I liked the proposed features and the initial coin distribution plan and I want it to prosper. POW doesn't make sense in the long-run, most coins lack of a proper transaction tax mechanism and NEM do have real incentives for money circulation. As NEM is not a pump and dump scheme I expect some coin struggle in the beginning because it takes time to build a real ecosystem around a new currency and some anxious people will be disapointed creating some negative buzz.

As a c# programmer, I would like to help but although I'm familiar with java, lack the experience to be an efficient java programmer (best tools, practices, java ecosystem familiarity, etc. I also lack the proper free time to contribute in a proper way (aka core developer) anyways, I'm not writing this to whine  but to suggest that the development team organize a list of tasks that can be handled to others people like me or freigeist (I wanna help).

Yes that would be really nice but the problems with the tasks could be that
the developer could require more time to describe and delegate the task then to
solve it by themself.   Embarrassed

It depends on the level of details of the tasks. The developers must list the development tasks to organize themselves and keep track of the project progress.

Needs to be a big countdown clock on the site for when it launches.. Set up email alerts for the day before launch.. People see the timer sign up for alert check out the forum and get facinAted by the community then they eegerly await the luanch get the alert so they dont miss it and then buy on luanch! Job done.. You can market the luanch of nem rather then just nem.. Make the luanch a really big thing!

+1

This could be maybe done on the www.ournem.com webpage
but not before when the precise development timeline is defined.

i am not sure how to setup a timer there. NEM launch will be big anyway. But it may take quite sometimes for us to get there. At this point, I am still soliciting good coders to make other services around NEM, moreover if you can contribute to the core development, contact me or Jaguar.

I'm not sure if i have enough qualification
to contribute the the core development as I suppose a good understanding
of cryptography is required and also the free time that i have is limited I'm afraid i would not
be able to keep up with the deadlines :-/

Anyway can you tell more about the services around NEM?
You already planned some services around NEM to be ready and launched when NEM goes online?
Are you seeking someone to implement the "your" the dev team ideas?

Related to timer i can check this days how to set up a timer on the page so in future
when will be needed this can be done easily.

Currently, the core codes are being developed by Jaguar, Gimre, Theis and Makoto. Rico will join soon and BloodyRoockie will join at some point. There will be some milestones announced after the public auditing but do expect some changes given that codes are built from scratches.

I like to have a site similar to localbitcoin for NEM as early as possible so I am looking for people doing that. There are also many ideas throwing around as well but imo core development is the most important aspect at this point.

Maybe I missed it, but who is going to make a client for NEM? Will it be built from scratch or are we going to use clients from NXT to make our own?

We are either going to create a client based on minusbalancer's NXT client or create a new one from scratch. I would like to add a few novel features to the NEM client, but I'm still thinking through them. If anyone is a UX designer and wants to help design the client, PM me.

If the team choose to create a client based on minubalancer's client, I can help with the development (I'm a c# programmer).

Also if POI is to be implemented it will be important IMO that there will be a account/alias bound reputation system.

But the major flaw that I see atm with POI is regarding the fact that you can just circulate coins between your own account and get hashing power that way. If this isn't prevented somehow I suggest that the forging will be at maximum 20% based on POI.

But these are all my speculations, I've got no legitimate knowledge on the mechanisms of POI. Lets just see that how the white paper turns out.

I guess the 0.1% fee can prevent artificial coin circulation if it´s implemented with some POI forging power cap.

Good point! But won't the 0.1% fee be a bit high considering the long term of the coin? If it gains success nobody will be willing to pay those transfer fees. The fee should at least have to possibility of being lowered in the future.

I´m ok with a 0.1% fee even in the long-term. An average joe spending all his income using NEM will pay a couple of dollars in transaction fees every month. The real danger I see is the proposed minimum fee of 1 NEM ... evil for microtransactions.

Hello Everyone,

I read this forum since late 2013 and I'm just created my accout so I can register as NEM supporter/stakeholder

I'm a computer programmer from Brazil and a cryptocurrency supporter. From economics standpoint, I really like the proof of stake +  inflation coin model and I'm little sad that neither Peercoin or Nextcoin were major hits.

I hope that NEM can use the registration money to promote itself in clever ways like dogecoin did.
