TBF DGB Groestl pool is still at zero status and updates but happily lets you keep mining.  I'm going to switch for now too to another pool.  I hope the admin is just on vacation--things happen.

I borrow this one from work.

https://www.amazon.com/Metro-Vacuum-ED500P-500-Watt-Electric/dp/B001U899HQ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1500051105&sr=8-4

$80, doesn't freeze up like a can of compressed air can during long usage. But it's noisy as hell.  Not leaf-blower noisy but your neighbors will swear there is a pack of angry dentists roaming in your house.

Re: Monero CPU mining speed

I've tested xmr-stak-cpu on a system with dual X5650's (we won't talk about the power usage, it's insane), which is a slightly higher performance chip per core  than an X7350, and I'm getting between 38.2 and 41.5 H/s per core.   I'm running with half the number of threads to not use hyperthreading.

So my dual cpu box is doing ~475 H/s.

My guess is that if you do 2 threads on a X7350, you might see around 150-160 H/s.    But does that processor support AES instructions?  OP you said you had an X7330 but I can't find reference to that, assuming you meant an X7350?

Does anyone know why Gigabyte Aorus or MSI RX580s are using almost 180W per card once mining ETH at 1425 clock and 2175 mem with flashed BIOS just copying 1750 timing values to 2000. If I use stock clocks the cards still eat around 160W, where this video shows the same exact cards and timings get 110W per card. I am getting the right 29-30MH/s rate but this power consumption is insane. Please advise.

Have you undervolted the GPU and RAM at all?

Promote a RX 470 with "custom mining bios" with adjusted memory straps on Craigslist and I bet newbie miners bite.
What you are doing is plain fraud. Never cheat a newbie into believing something that is not, everyone starts from zero and never be an ass to take advantage of people who does not know anything.@ OP mining difficulty will keep on increasing and there is nothing you can do about that, make the most when you can and get out when you think that profit is not that good.

I intended that more as a joke, actually.

Of course we are seeing people switch over to Zcash, but better it be slowly like this than all at one time right?

Anyone here planning to hold onto their RX cards is fooling himself, why not get a free upgrade to 1070 while you still can? Dont be stupid.

Nobody will buy a RX 470 for $400 second hand when they can just buy a 1070 for the exact same price.

Re: All this talk about "mining specific" GPU's
by
m0bilitee
on 15/06/2017, 18:55:57 UTC
Agreed - the capabilities of a specific mining gpu must outweigh the lost scrap value since one cannot sell it on to the gaming or visualisation markets

Until that time, gaming cards will be the card of choice I believe simply due to their scrap value being taken into account when calculating lifetime ROI

Perhaps another point to add that would be desirable: compact size. The smaller the card the smaller the rig and the smaller the rig the more rigs one can fit into the space - thereby reducing the space a farm takes up (heat dissipation of course would need to remain unaffected.......)

The new mining specific GPUs are said to be 2x faster in mining for ethereum almost 60 MH/s for $350
https://hothardware.com/news/nvidia-allegedly-readying-pascal-crypto-mining-gpus-ethereum-bitcoin

Hmm, the 1080 variant is stock clocks, I don't see it doing more than 25MH, certainly no more than 30MH/s for Eth.  The 8x rig in the slide listed at the bottom is doing 200 with 8 cards which is 25MH/sec per card.

My $0.02 says there just isn't going to be a substantial change in hashrate on any of these cards, provided they even exist.  Like the OP I wouldn't be buying them anyway, as I may game with one or resell it at some point.

I read they won't just retail these to anyone either, that they would be going out in large quantities only.  This also seems...odd.

One of the vega cards amd is coming out with has 1tb of cache on the gpu lol
They had 4 of those cards  rendering 4K video live. It was crazy!!
And if anyone knows anything about rendering video it is awesome
They also had one playing doom and max everything at 60fps
So the new amd vegas are like 1080ti's ATM it could change

1tb cache ? some form of vram HBM v2 perhaps -- that would speed up ZEC mining tremendously

1080ti is only at 11gb vram gddr5... the vega could be a game changer but at what price?

i hope vega comes out and pushes 1080ti down below 500$.... wishful thinking...

I think AMD and NVIDIA will learn to tango and waltz together and leverage the mining scene

They canned hbm and went cache instead
They said it's like ssd cache.
No prices as of right now.
Probably won't know until preorders go out.
But they changed how the gpu processes things like they did with the ryzen CPU

interesting...... this is a killer blow to the memory guys too.

looking forward to test drive vega soon

The card they showed had dual M.2 slots in it each supporting 512Gig SSDs.  This lets them bypass the PCIE bus to talk to memory for running things like crazy graphics filters.   I don't see this being of much use to miners at this point, just my $0.02.

I flash all my cards in a separate rig, solo, so there is no confusion. Things get out of hand when you are running atiflash on a rig with multiple gpus.

Re: Older Motherboard will work??

My "test" Ethereum miner is one of these:  https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5N7AVM/

LGA775, it's got a dual core Pentium on it, latest bios. I'm running 2 risers to the 2 PCIE slots with some 4GB RX480s on it, getting around 26 Mh/sec on each heavily underclocked on the GPU and undervolted, pulling around 325 watts at the wall. Not ideal in any case, but it's an old box and it works and slightly spreads my risk across 2 systems in my hobby mining farm. Windows 10 Pro, 6GB of RAM, I was initially running it on 2GB of RAM with sgminer, had to get over 2 to get to Claymore which is what I run now.

I have another rig that's much more modern, one of the Biostar LG1150 boards, but like Phil said give it a shot with 2 and see.    One of these days I'll move one of these low end cards to that other rig to see if it mines a little faster, but I'm making that tradeoff of having my stuff split between systems so something is always up and mining when I'm tinkering or having a stability problem.

This motherboard was once my Home theater PC. I've been proud it hasn't hit the recycler yet. Smiley

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA73M5RB6419 lowest cost for an IN STOCK RX 470/480/570/580 on Newegg right now - but the price gouge is INSANE, they want more for that than for some GTX 1080 cards.

 NVidia gotta be LOVING this....

The Vega Frontier edition is supposedly going to be out in June or early July - but that's the WORKSTATION version, not a consumer one, and will probably be priced accordingly.

The consumer Vega cards are due later this year, apparently.

500 bucks :DDDDD Who wants my RX 480 8GB? Just 489 bucks Cheesy

I'm not sure why everybody is excited from Vega? It should be high-end like Fury, so it will cost fortune and also HBM has pretty bad timings. That's what makes all AMD cards good for mining and all those bios mods are about.

Holy canoli Batman, $500 for a 4G RX580?  It does ship from Asia though...

Hey guys, I have a tb85 am trying to get 6 gpu going on but every time I populate the x16 slot with riser the others are not seen. I KNOW it is something stupid in bios I am overlooking, but have been trying for a couple days now so would appreciate a little pointer. Thanks!

Are you on Windows 10?  If so, I built 2 6x470s on that Mobo recently so might be able to help.  Firstly, if you're trying it on Windows 7, I highly recommend the still free upgrade to W10.  I tried to build a few 6x rigs with W7 and was never able to get them running smoothly (or at all) with 5-6 GPUs... even after the reg-mod, etc.  Once I went to W10, absolutely NO issues with 6, except of course for the crappy updates that can't all be stopped, but I think I have mitigated that aspect for now anyway.

One thing that I have found works best is to install the 1st GPU (via riser) in that x16 slot. I have done this on both TB85 rigs as well as ASRock BTC R2 and it worked perfectly. Originally, I tried other slots first and it tended to cause problems.  I load the the first GPU to that x16 slot and have the monitor hooked up to it as well on all 4 of my rigs.  After the x16 slot, I do the first (farthest right, closet to the CPU) x1 slot, then slot 3, 4, 5 & 6 in order, one at a time.

If this doesn't work, you might want to try different risers (if you haven't already). Seems like there are a few bad batches of the molex version powered USB risers going around lately as I have like a 50% fail rate on those lately and returned most of them.  Luckily, the 6-pin PCIe versions seem to me much more stable... I am 12 for 12 on those so far.

Did you do any tinkering with UEFI (is it a UEFI install of Windows on a GPT partition?) and did you mess with PCIE version settings?  I'm on 3 with my TB85 and want to add #4 and #5, right now not running UEFI boot.   Thanks in advance!

Yep, you're probably having the issue lots of discussed here--modded BIOS on the cards I assume? Microsoft pushed an automatic update for RX cards this month.  You have to block it and roll back.  Roll through this thread:
